  • Hi to all the new posters - seems to be a lot of us just now! And hugs to shewhoguards (and anyone else who needs them!)

We caved on Sat and told our parents, my inlaws weren't too surprised as we were on holiday with them last week and I hadn't been feeling right. My folks are over the moon, first grandchild for them! will be my inlaws 9th lol. Just hope everything goes ok now!

Do people find their symptoms come and go? My breasts have been sore most of the past ten days, and I've had tummy cramps on and off too. Some nausea but no sickness, and vvv tired at times. And yet at other times I feel completely normal and forget I'm pregnant! Glad to say the nasty headaches seem to have gone.

For those who have been pregnant before, can I ask a few really random questions? How do you manage on a night out to not drink without people asking questions - have a staff night out on Sat, a cheese and wine night lol, can't really get out of it as I organised it for a girl in my department who is leaving. Normally I'd be getting stuck right in, but obviously won't be drinking and will be leaving the soft cheese well alone, which is bound to get colleagues talking.

Also, when do most people go on maternity leave? My job can be quite physical at times (heavy lifting when cleaning mainly).

And when did you tell your employer you were pregnant? I was going to wait until I was 12 weeks but my DH suggested I do it sooner, due to the physical nature of the work. Also, it's quite a small family run business, there's only 6 of us working there and I don't want to leave them in the lurch - I know when I go back next week after my hols, we are having meetings to look at budgets and staffing for the next year.

Sorry for such a long post!
  • Thank you for the welcome.

I'm off work today (snow day) as work in a school and it's closed.

I have a terrible cold, sneeze sneeze sneeze all Saturday to wake up yesterday with a cold.

We decided to tell our parents yesterday as well. I'm from Australia so didn't wanna keep it from my parents & sister until a scan as that seemed a bit mean.

I will be telling work when I go back, just the teacher I work with and management purely because I work in a special needs school so the children can be aggressive at times.

Planned on phoning the Dr today but might not be able to travel as just looks really bad outside.

Yes, mine went around week 8 and came back week 9. I have the odd really good day then a few rubbish days.

I'm lucky cos I don't _always_ drink. Excuses though can be you're on antibiotics. Be a designated driver. Or try and buy your own drinks and pretend you're drinking alcohol.

I would have thought any heavy lifting jobs would be taken away from you...

I had a desk job last time but hated it, so I finished at 36 weeks. I could have easily worked to the end doing that job though.

This time I'm a TA which has a lot of standing, crouching, bending and walking. But term will end when I'm about 36 weeks so that's fine with me. If it didn't, I would definitely finish at 36 weeks in the job, I know I would struggle to the end.

I told my boss at 8 weeks. Felt better for it.

Your employer has a legal duty of care to you and needs to assess your role and possibly remove some duties that could compromise you or your baby. This typically means no more lifting.

Together with the fact that the sooner they know the sooner they can start planning maternity cover makes me think you should tell them now.

Welcome to all the new people, congrats on your bfp and wishing you happy and healthy pregnancy :)

@bridetobe I have nursed a glass of wine at a couple of work events. There was no other option and a couple of sips gives the impression on drinking.

I also for career reasons will not be announcing my pregnancy till 16-17 weeks in work. We are in the process of restructuring and I don't want my pregnancy to be a factor in the decision making process. However, my company has a history in that regard. There is some manual parts of it but for the most part it has not been an issue.

AFM I am doing okay 10 weeks 2 days and I have my scan on the 28th. Feeling nervous about it as I forget I am pregnant half the time as my symptoms have been pretty mild tbh and I am half worried something is wrong.

THIS is exactly how I feel!!! I came off the pill in August and we decided to NTNP shortly after, mainly coz I had it in my head it would take us AGES to conceive! And now I am totally paranoid about not carrying the baby to full term. So glad to hear I am not alone!!

Thanks to everyone about to their replies to my earlier questions...I think I'll prob end up telling my boss sooner rather than later, I think it's only fair, especially as just before I went on holiday she was talking about increasing my hours to full time!

  • Hey girls, back again after a little scare this week, started bleeding, not alot but having had previous miscarriages I was a little concerned, went to hospital and they tried to turn me away as im not registered in the area yet as i never got my drs changed from when i lived in london. anyway i demanded someone see me, said it was a poor excuse not to at least examine me, eventually after 4 hrs stuck to the hospital reception i got seen and everything is ok!

and the good news is today my drivers license has finally come through for my new address so now i can actually get registered thank god, no more incidents like that one
