hello all, ok to join you ladies? I just found out yesterday that I'm expecting and need someone other than DH to talk to! We've not been trying very long, I came off the pill in August and have just been NTNP since then...thought it would take us a lot longer to get a BFP as I've been on the pill the best part of 9 years and also only have one ovary.

Going by my dates, I think I am about 5 weeks. Saw the doctor this morning and all she did was give me a prescription for folic acid and make me an appointment with the midwife, who I'm seeing a week on Monday.

This is baby number 1 for us, and we're so excited! Me more than DH at the moment I think, he's suffering from man flu so isn't the most communicative just now!
*says in a high pitch voice* Congratulations and welcome to the thread bride2be. I think your experience of the doctors is the norm. Certainly in our case.

We've got our 12wk scan on Monday so nervous and terrified at the same time!

Congratulations and welcome to all the new members!

I had my scan and booking in appt on Tuesday, I was fully expecting the midwife to put the scanner on my tummy and rummage around looking for a while but nope, scanner on tummy and baby popped up on screen right away!! It took a while for the midwife to get a couple of pictures because baby refused to stay still and at pne point midwife started laughing and asked if we could see babys hands, little one was putting hands over face, taking them away and putting them back - peekaboo!!!! My dates are spot on so am 11+4 and due on August 5th but plan is to bring me in 2 weeks early and induce me. Even better, I was able to have chat with obs and she said she can't see any reason why my pelvis would stop me giving birth again so I don't have to worry about a section, am delighted (was terrified I'd have 6 weeks at home with new baby, 2 girls home from school for holidays and not being able to drive!)

I'm due to move up to the next board on Monday and hope everyone has a fantastic pregnancy and we all have a fantastic summer with our new little ones xo

    Firstly congratulations!

I was refused a prescription for folic acid, so it cost me £21 for the brand the doctor recommended (3 boxes of pregnacare, 180 tablets). Disappointing the differences in areas provision!

Ouch! I'm amazed the doctor is marketing Pregnacare though.. my midwife just told me to get the cheapest folic acid tablets I could find (supermarket own brands, and I think Asda give them out for free if you ask at their in-store pharmacy).
  • Did you get a receipt for the prescription charge - once you get your exemption certificate you can claim the cost back. I'm so glad we don't have any of that faff up here in Scotland now though.
  • I'm in Scotland too, so glad we've got free prescriptions!

Feeling shattered today, am curled up in bed with the iPad! And that's with being half way through a fortnights holiday! Does anyone else get horrible headaches? The past week I've had a thumping headache on and off, and normally I never have headaches...no sickness yet though, touch wood!

Stop testing! You're going to worry yourself unnecessarily. Like the people who use the clearblues and never see the 3+ on the indicator yet go on to have a healthy baby :)

I know! It's crazy isn't it to keep doing tests?
I was having that "no symptom" feeling so wanted to reassure myself. Who'd have thought I'd miss the terrible breast pain and nausea!
Anyway, shortly after posting this morning I was huddled over the toilet being very sick! :rotfl:

Can you take them back? They are often 3 for 2 in Boots.

I like taking Pregnacare because my diet is so poor. But you can still buy folic acid pills (60 in a bottle) for a quid in Tesco. I've been taking just folic acid mostly as I can't face the big fat pregnacare ones at the moment. But you can take pregnacare all the way through pregnancy and breastfeeding.

MV - I did similar, only went back to my old job for 8 months before I just pretty much quit on the spot without finding another job first! That was scary too. I'd also been in that job for 7 years (8 with the mat leave). It's hard to walk away, but it's definitely been the best thing I've done. I've taken a HUGE pay cut, but somehow we are managing and somehow still managing to save a bit too. And we're earning £1k a month less - makes me wonder what the hell we spent that £1k on!!!

Welcome bride2be. No headaches for me, I'm sure that's a common symptom though.

Drink, drink, drink. I got terrible headaches in my first tri, infact so much so I spent the best part of 12 weeks laying in the dark with a cold cloth on my head. But if I made an effort to drink more (I'm talking a glass of water an hour here) it made the world of difference but I really had to drink loads. I didn't have any sickness though :o Seems the baby just leeched all my water :D

Finally got my scan date :D 1st Feb, I'll be 12 weeks exactly.

Got a consultant appointment too :( Kinda hoped they'd forget about that.
