    Hi all!

Good news about the early scan mogwai! How far along are you? I had an appointment with my GP today. She gave me my flu shot and some general advice about pregnancy and has referred me to the local midwife team and hospital.

I had to pick where I wanted to give birth, but I didn't really know much about either so I just picked at random. Hope I have made the right choice!

Hope everyone has a good day!

You can change your mind at any point - have a look on http://www.birthchoiceuk.com/ if you want more info about each of them. Better sooner rather than later as they'll take over some of your antenatal care.

Thanks! I had a quick look and there's not much difference in the stats between the two hospitals near me. They both seem ok in terms of instrumental delivery rate etc. I'll need to see if I can find out what facilities they both have. I'd quite like to have a go at the birthing pool, but I know you aren't guaranteed to be able to use it if someone else gets there before you...

It's so much to think about! Lol! :)

lovecake im supposed to be 9+4 based on LMP but the scan dated me at 8+4.

I havent even thought about where I want to give birth or anything along those lines yet! Need to meet my midwife first I think then i can start thinking about all that..

I have thought about a water birth though, it sounds like it could be an interesting experience!

mogwai - the GP asked me when I saw him which hospital as he needed to refer me (that was at my first contact with the NHS about the pregnancy!). I think the midwife who did my bookin also asked where I'd like to give birth (I think she was meaning in the hospital or at home, but it wasn't made clear to me at the time) - but with no sort of preparation for or pre-reading or discussion!! Although as I've found out you can change your mind as late as 35 weeks ;)

Hmm thanks savageHK I had no idea we needed to be prepped with that information before the booking in. I'va had a look at the link thanks and the Barkantine which looks really good is only 5 min down the road from me so would be a good choice!

We may be moving a few months before though not too far hopefully so may be able to stick with my choice

Havent had proper nausea yet but just feeling queasy all the time lately and gone off most foods :(

Mogwai - I love the quote in your signature!

I had my first appointment with the midwife yesterday. Tbh, I asked her more questions then she asked me. I had (more) blood taken and was told to take my pee sample home as they don't have the facilities to dispose of it. How weird! Just glad that it wasn't a number 2 sample!
  • Hello ... Am about 6 weeks pregnant and had a miscarriage in the summer :-( .... I now just can't seem to relax !! I am feeling tired and like AF is on the way !! Is that normal ? I am also an older overweight mum which is making me worry too ... Anyone got any tips ?

Hi All, I'm 9 weeks today, so starting to feel a little bit more relaxed about this pregnancy lark now. Although I'm finding it slightly odd that I've not had any bleeding at all. That's a good thing, I appreciate, but I had bleeding with DS so had sort of assumed I was one of those women who bleeds when pregnant... Plus I'd had a scan by now with DS because of the bleeding. I'm almost tempted to book a private early scan, but I know that getting the reassurance of a heartbeat now doesn't mean all will still be OK when I have my dating scan in 3 weeks, so I'm going to resist.

Hi Toooldforthis, congratulations and welcome to the thread :) I know what you mean about finding it hard to relax (see above!), I had a mc in September and have found this pregnancy quite stressful as a result. Tired is perfectly normal, as are crampy feelings as things will be starting to stretch. I'm older and overweight too, all you can do is your best and there's no reason why your age and weight should prevent you from having a straightforward pregnancy. I was only slightly less old but still overweight when I had DS and all was fine. Try to eat healthily (not always easy if you feel pants) and look after yourself.
You can do anything, make anything, dream anything. If you change the world, the world will change.
  • Congrats on getting to 9 weeks BB x
