I definitely recommend the birth pool. I had a water birth with DS and was amazed at how much it eased the pain. DS was 9lb 4 and I only needed a bit of gas and air along with being in the pool :) I'm hoping for the same again this time.

The routine with my surgery is to book the next appointment as you leave. In fact I must call and book in for a flu jab, as I forgot to do that when I left on Friday.

I'm another who's a bit obsessed with crisps at the moment :o Though I do eat a lot of fruit, so hopefully it's not too much of a problem. Also slightly obsessed with jacket potatoes with cheese and coleslaw. That's what I'm having for lunch today and I've been counting down the minutes til I can get it ready since about 10am!

Wow! A home birth! I think that is a great idea - although I think I would be too scared seen as it's my first one. I had a look at some of the stats and apparently 40% of first time mums opting for a home birth need to transfer to a hospital so the chances are I would end up there anyway. But seen as it is only 10% for those who have already had children I would definitely consider it for number 2 (if we decide to have another!)

Looking forward to hearing how you get on! :)

First time mom too and aware of the 40% - but that's actually 60% who don't need to transfer so the chances are you wouldn't end up there anyway ;). There was a most interesting study on interventions carried out by 'intended' place of delivery rather than actual and for those who 'intended' to give birth at home it was still vastly lower intervention rates which I found interesting.

I must say if we were further from hospital I'd probably go to hospital, but we are very close and if we do need an emergency transfer (which is very unlikely) it wouldn't be a problem, I'd guess by the time theatre was ready for me the I'd be ready and waiting!

Still, worth having a read about and making up your mind and not writing it off right from the start. It just didn't end up making sense to me to move midway through labour?? Hospital's not interested until you're 4cm gone, so I started thinking 'well, I'll stay at home as long as possible' (as the last thing I wanted was to get there and to be sent home), which became well, when is as long as possible... and then with some reading about how childbirth isn't supposed to be that painful provided you can stay relaxed and focussed... anyway, happy to recommend some reading on the topic if anyone interested! Also suggest seeing if you have a home birth group in your area, I found we have one but almost didn't make it to the last meeting before my due date as I only found it late on.

You may all want to wait and see just how I get on though, at the moment I'm blissfully unaware of how my body will take to labour and birth - I might have a completely different take on things afterwards!
  • I really would prefer to give birth in the hospital the next county over but not sure if that's allowed, will definitely be asking further along though.

I can't eat anything like a proper diet at the moment (approx 6 weeks), breakfast is good - OJ & cereal but I've been struggling to eat an evening meal so that's going to be cereal as well tonight as I can't keep feeling sick all evening.
Once I'm hungry, I feel so nauseous so I'm eating lunch really early and then snacking constantly on ginger biscuits and fruit.
I've totally gone off chocolate though :o
  • Just a quick update. Took my daughter for her scan at the Early Pregnancy Unit and everything is fine. Baby very active and heartbeat very strong. Than goodness! Midwife said a little bleeding is very common in early pregnancy. My daughter is 11 weeks.

My diet is a bit crap at the moment too! I am eating loads of fruit and veg and have majorly cut down my caffeine intake, but I have gone off loads of things and just want plain food right now. Last night I had potato waffles and beans! :rotfl:I can't seem to face anything rich or with too much flavour. I just want bland food and have gone off cheese which I normally LOVE! For breakfast I am mainly just having fruit these days, but OH said he is going to get some different cereals for me to try and see if I can eat any of them without feeling sick. I am not actually being sick which is good - just feeling really nauseous, especially in the mornings through til 11ish. Pregnancy is crazy! I am about 6 weeks too. Are you getting the MAJOR tiredness? By 3pm I am completely exhausted these days!
  • Hi ladies, hope everyone is well. Im a tad bit jealous of all the nausea, i haven't really had any apart from feel a bit icky if i don't eat. Im still considering going for an early scan, Im not totally exhausted like others are saying but i know everyone is different. I've been having the af type cramps but not constant, just every so often. Ill see how i feel next week when ill be 8 weeks and decide re scan. Where has mrsj gone?

minimuffin - I'm not overly tired either - just need to rest my back every now and then as I ache a little if standing up for too long. I haven't been sick yet but am getting nausea. Definitely don't be jealous of the nausea.....!!!

I have received my scanning appointment through the post today - I will be 12+6 and to be honest I would have preferred for it to be a little sooner.

I saw a friend today and she remarked on how my stomach was filling out - either its the crisps making a food baby (likely!), or I am further gone than I thought:eek:, or OMG.....twins:eek::eek:!!!! (haha at the latter - we all imagine this - but in reality I don't quite know what I would do!).

Sparkles87 - you can choose exactly where you want to give birth - its the patient charter thing - it can be another county if you want - but do think of the practicalities of getting there. I am a bit worried at the 40 mins I will have to travel (when OH works close to it - he will have to travel 40 mins to get home, and then 40 mins to get me in - I will probably end up giving birth in a lay-by, or having to drive myself during labour:rotfl:!).

Good to hear your daughter is ok merrydance.

Yes definitely! I tend to want to sleep from 2pm-ish if I'm up early but then get a 2nd wind luckily as I work afternoons and evenings more.
IHateDida - it's about 65 miles, so isn't impossible if I realised early enough.
