Hope she is ok merrydance. I think with any bleeding it is best to get it checked. Some bleeding can be normal... Fingers crossed for ur daughter. x0

My daughter has her first scan booked for the end of Nov. She wants me to go with her and her partner, do you think they will allow both her partner and me to be in the scan room with her. I think she wants me there to hold her hand when she has the blood test - she's absolutely terrified of needles lol.
Our local hospital allows two adults (no children) in the scan room for the scan .. you then have to go to another section of the hospital for the blood test. However, when I had my first child, the hospital in that area only allowed one adult in the scan room ... so I think every hospital has their own policies.
It does usually say on the appointment letter how many people can come in with you. Or maybe you could ring the ultrasound department or blood test department and ask.0 -
Thankyou
I am guessing my recent addiction to ready salted crisps won't feature highly.
Seriously though - they are the only thing (apart from almonds) that help my sick feelings - I ate 2 bags at 7.30am and felt so much better afterwards - but god I felt guilty - crisps at 7.30am!!!!
Is this really bad? Anyone else needing crisps? I am eating lots of fruit and veg also and also taking vitamins etc still.
I was pretty bad in first trimester with food - I didn't want my usual diet at all - but honestly there's no point eating other food if you're just going to throw it up! I was on plain salted hula hoops from Sainsburys (of all things). I then also developed a taste for peanut butter on toast (with added sugar and salt!). And dilute orange juice... I then went onto salt and vinegar crisps later on - and there was a cheap chocolate patch too. Now although I'm not craving them if anyone opens a pack of Kettle Chips (mature cheddar and onion flavour) that's the pack gone...0 -

I think our hospital had a sign up saying 'one adult plus your own children' allowed in the scan room, but I'm sure they'd have no problem with two adults especially if your daughter says she wants you there (I think it's there to discourage the situation where there are 10 adults and 15 kids in the room!!). If you are worried you can phone and check because this does vary by hospital. I'm pretty sure that the blood taking people won't care if you're there to hold her hand either.0 -

Hope all goes well merrydance, I know it's a bit late but bleeding can be OK especially I believe if it's brown - but still always a good idea to have it checked. I was lucky and never had any spotting at all but I know other ladies who have had quite a bit of bleeding and been fine.0 -
Went to the booking in with the me this morning and to be perfectly honest, I didn't need to be there and did feel a bit of a spare part, but still glad I went. Overall we were in there for about 30mins. Did have to nip out whilst they attempted to take blood!
Was quite surprised that we have to take the lead now in booking out own appointments, thought it would be more them telling us when the dates of the scans are. Going to discuss it tonight when I get home from work as the are a number of options we have to decide upon which will determine if we go to a hospital close to us, or one further away (one closest to us is very limited in its merternaty ward although I think she had decided to have the birth at the one furthest away due to it being better prepared for complex births and would not have to wait for a 40min transfer!).
Oh's seems a little better today however still got the cough. I've told her to try the honey/lemon mix to see if it helps. Will see when I get back home!0 -
SplanK - glad all went well if a little boring
Hope you cope OK with any blood at the birth or you stay well out the way of the action end.... If you are after options of hospitals I think there are good statistics on some websites where you can see what rates of interventions each hospital does. It may also be worth seeing if you have midwife led units attached to the hospitals. http://www.birthchoiceuk.com/
I've recently decided on a home birth rather than a hospital one for various reasons. I've not told many people though as I know the instant reaction. However I've looked at the stats and it seems to make sense for me. If you have a read of how labour is supposed to progress as a bodily function it could change your minds too.... although I appreciate it's not for everyone! I've also booked a birthing pool for at home as it's one of the best forms of pain relief apparently, so if it's something you want to consider it would be worth checking if a pool is available at either of your two options.
As for booking appointments, with me it was largely that at the end of each appointment you booked the next one so not too complicated.0 -
Wow! A home birth! I think that is a great idea - although I think I would be too scared seen as it's my first one. I had a look at some of the stats and apparently 40% of first time mums opting for a home birth need to transfer to a hospital so the chances are I would end up there anyway. But seen as it is only 10% for those who have already had children I would definitely consider it for number 2 (if we decide to have another!)
Looking forward to hearing how you get on!0
