My OH has come down with some sort of bug that's been floating around - I had it a couple of weeks back and it lasted a week before it started to sort itself out. Quite nasty chesty cough and she is finding it hard to shift it. What's worse is she can't take anything to calm the symptoms down like I could :(

Although countless google sessions say that the baby is protected from all but the very worst illnesses, I am still a little apprehensive but hiding it to support the OH!

Mw visit tomorrow, and today she will be 9+0 since her last due on date.

Has she been to the pharmacist to ask if there is anything she can take? There are some that are ok in pregnancy. Also, what about looking into some natural remedies? It is lovely that you are so concerned for her - I'm sure some kisses and cuddles and back rubs won't go a miss! :)

A friend of mine recommended a book for me to give to OH to help him understand what I was going through and how to support me at every stage. I'm not saying you need it ;) but it really helped her husband and mine is now really enjoying it! Although it is written by a bloke it has all been approved by a midwife. I had a quick skim through and it had some very good advice on when to say something and when to keep your mouth shut! Hahaha! :)

Aw that's such a shame! :( It's hard when you can't do anything to help. I know my OH hates it when I am ill and there is nothing he can do. I am sure you are doing everything you can to make her feel better. A few duvet days will help! :)

Apparently eucalyptus oil is OK, if it might help her clear her chest a bit?

Also Vicks Vaporub if you look on the NHS choices website, says it's not been shown to be unsafe in pregnancy but you should check with a doctor if you are pregnant - might help...?

Half the issue we found over the weekend when looking for anything that may help is there are people who say yes and there are people that say no, there is no definitive answer to a lot of things which makes life difficult. Vicks is a perfect example if this! She did use a small amount but didn't really do much to ease her symptoms.

Even a lot of docs give out conflicting advise!

Saying that, if you followed every no you are ever given, you might as well lock yourself in a padded cell with no contact with anybody or anything!

If my cold is anything to go by, then hopefully she is now on the tail end of the cold and its only a matter of a day or 2 to go!

very true! especially in first trimester, not much anyone will say is safe. Hope she feels better soon. I've managed to avoid all colds so far luckily, all I had one was bad headache once and for that I decided not to take anything and just take to my bed with a damp cloth on my head - not something you want to take a risk with really! My hubby's just had a pretty horrid cold but I seem to be fine, which is odd as they keep saying your immune system is compromised when pregnant. Hopefully I can make it through without coming down with anything...

Thankyou :o I am guessing my recent addiction to ready salted crisps won't feature highly.

Seriously though - they are the only thing (apart from almonds) that help my sick feelings - I ate 2 bags at 7.30am and felt so much better afterwards - but god I felt guilty - crisps at 7.30am!!!!

Is this really bad? Anyone else needing crisps? I am eating lots of fruit and veg also and also taking vitamins etc still.
