Thank-you so much in posting this. I have my appointment with the midwife next Tuesday and I will have to take a bag with me because I am not running the risk of bumping into someone I know.

Did you take a urine sample with you? I have to take one with me you see. I just want a medical professional to tell me that I am preggers. I did another test today (despite having lots of symptoms lol)

Haha! Just take a bag which isn't see-thru and large enough for an A4 pack!!! I didn't take a urine sample - but wish I had (so take one!) - as I had to try and pee directly into one of those narrow containers - which are designed for men....no comment!!!:)

I did ask her to let me know if I wasn't pregnant (!) and she said that they didn't test for that - they tested for protein etc! I'm still doing tests.....so don't worry - its still surreal for me - and even stranger that I was sitting waiting to see a MIDWIFE!!!:rotfl:

Hello all new ladies - just popping over to see how you are all doing :hello: Hope you all have a healthy pregnancies xxx

I am on my 4th baby and have NEVER had a pregnancy test done by the MW. My friend had been trying for a baby for over 3 years when she fell pregnant with her son and she must have text and asked me a hundred times if the MW/doctor were ever going to test to make sure she definitely was. I gave her a spare leftover digi and made her do it at mine - she drove me that mad! (I was 4 weeks pregnant at the time and it was a leftover).

Nothing would convince her she was "really" pregnant until her 12 week scan - when she promptly burst into tears and sobbed "its a baby". (Have no idea what she expected to see!!!) She said she was in such shock when she saw the wriggling picture! Her Oh said she didn't speak for about an hour afterwards :rotfl: So don't worry ladies - if you have seen a positive on a test I think its safe to say there is a little bean growing inside you. Just look after yourselves and look forward to seeing the little wriggler at the scan :)

The tiredness will ease too - my Oh spent many an evening sat alone in front of the TV with me snoring away on the sofa..... I am 16 w 3 days now and can manage an evening awake now :o he said it was nice to have some company again! As for the sickness - can't help on that one - I am still on medication :(

I have heard the tale that morning sickness usually means a girls but I can assure you that's not always true. I also had hyperemesis for the whole 40 weeks with my first 2 - one boy and one girl! And absolutely nothing with baby number 3 who was a boy - not one whiff of sickness throughout the whole 9 months. I obviously don't know the sex of number 4 baby - but going by my past history won't really help either!!

I am 35 years old and although the MW has explained the extra risks re Down Syndrome etc (I had my blood test today :() she said there doesn't really pose any extra risks giving birth at "my" age. I have a friend who gave birth to her second son last year at the ripe old age of 48 (16 years after her first baby) - no problems and they are both doing well. She does deserve a medal :T - this is definitely my last baby, as I feel old at 36 so have no idea where she finds the energy!!!!

Good luck to everyone and here's to lots of happy pregnancies xxxxx
  • Ok Im slightly worried about the midwife thing, everyone is seeing theirs before me.lol my gp said i wouldn't see her until 2 weeks after the scan. Suppose they want to see if everything is ok first before they start paperwork? I've no idea so just going to go with the flow!

It's alright - I haven't seen mine yet either. I will be nine weeks on Thursday and I will be seeing her next week. I'd rather have seen her earlier though but I guess that this is how things work where I live.

minimuffin - don't worry too much. It seems to depend where in the country you are. I'm in NI and procedure in my area is see the doctor and he refers you to the hospital of your choice. Booking in at hospital where you are scanned first, then straight after if all ok you see the hospital midwife who goes through a large amount of questions about family history, general health etc. After that if on shared care then you see the community midwife in between hospital visits. Different parts of the UK have different procedures. Scanning first is likely to check everything is ok before you are fully booked in - as rough as that sounds!
  • I also had my first GP app today, it was really quick and easy. She said the same thing about the smoking, it can't be helped and is done and if I keep not smoking that's great- it's amazing how easy it was to stop really! Been a full week now with nothing.
She didn't give me any emma's diary thing? I am in wales though so things may be a bit different.
Good call Ihatedida, will hoepfully have my midwife app in the next couple of weeks.
  • Morning all

Just back from my Flu jab. I hate needles but i was fine. OH even came with me :)

I got my midwife appointment send almost straight away, in the same pack i got my scan letter. - was very impressed. Just cant wait till the end of Novemeber. All this seems surreal. Even when this morning the nurse said "eh and why are you getting the flu jab when you havent had it before" i said "im pregnant" first time i have really said it out loud to someone other than OH. :)

    xx

    Hi Ladies :)

Is anyone else feeling really cold? I'm sitting here in a thermal vest (!), long sleeved t-shirt, tank top and a fleece, with a heater on and I'm still cold! I seem to just be cold all the time lately. I never had this when pregnant with DS, so not sure if it's normal?

Also feeling very queasy. To the extent that I can't drive the new car I bought a week or so ago as it's been valeted with something with a strong fruity smell that just knocks me sick :(

IHateDida, if you're worried about iron, have a look at Spatone supplements. I took them when pregnant with DS and have started again now. It's a liquid and less likely to cause constipation than taking iron tablets (I couldn't take Pregnacare last time as it made my constipation so bad, apparently it's a bit notorious for it due to the iron content).

I've got my first MW appointment on Friday, when I should be 8+1. Sounds like there is a new MW at my surgery, which can only be a good thing - the last one was a right dizzy cow. I need a consultant referral as I've had a blood clot in the past and the last time it took some serious badgering by a friend of mine who works in the maternity department at the hospital to get the MW to actually do the paperwork! Fingers crossed the new one is a bit more organised.

Mine only saw me at 8 weeks as I couldn't get any other time off work so don't worry. Its just a paperwork thing anyway - in fact, she could have just given me the paperwork and I could have filled it in myself!!!! Not much else happened apart from taking a urine sample and receiving the embarrassing pack with "pregnancy" written all over it (take a bag!). My blood is going to be taken at the 12 week scan.

    .

Thanks for the vitamin info - will do a search and see what I can find. I know what you mean about the car thing -I have a new-ish car (2 months old - before I thought of babies LOL! might have saved my money otherwise!!!) and the rubber car mat smell combined with the hard suspension make me very queasy - I have a new air freshner but I can still smell the rubber....!

I'm keep going really cold through to boiling hot - especially hot at night. If I wasn't pregnant I would be thinking I was going through "the change"!!!:o Weather is rubbish though so maybe our systems are getting muddled with the hormones??!!!

    Hows everyone else feeling today?
