Hi Ellie,
Im feeling quite tired today-doesnt help that im stuck in the office on a very dark and rainy day!
I had my scan letter (for 13 weeks) last monday when I was 8 weeks. My friend never had an appt letter (same hospital/midwife) so it may be worth you ringing and asking as you should be due your scan this week or next?0 -
Ellie, I'd call them - if you are having the nuchal test it needs to be done soon (and they can move your dates at the first scan too). I never had a letter, it was booked in following my book-in appointment, was it not mentioned then to you?0

I had a scan at 9 weeks booked at my booking in appointment and the mw there said i would get one at 12 weeks ( its on my notes as requested) but i rang them today and they said the 9 week dating scan was my 12 week one and my next one is 20 weeksi might ring again and request a 12 week one, or talk to my mw at my appointment but thats not till next wed.
I really dont know what to do, its my 1st baby and they havnt really explained it very wellAims for 2014

Ellie, I would ring them again and request a 12 week scan, esp with it being your 1st baby. If they are funny about it, speak to your midwife.
They do seem to be a bit useless explaining it as I rang up the hospital earlier to double check that my 'midwife episode' appt letter was also my 1st scan as nothing was on the letter about coming with a full bladder and didnt have to word scan anywhere on the letter.
I would have gone anyway with a full bladder but there may have been someone who would have not called them up and turned up thinking it was just to see the midwife!
For us first time mums it is daunting as we havent been through it before.0 -
Abby - thanx i think i will ring again, when i went to my last scan they printed off a sheet that said about the 12 week scan on it, so i was very confused when the woman on the phone said no the next is 20 weeks and booked one for 12th oct, because i havnt had the nuchal testAims for 2014

Let us know how you get on.
You will see the midwife at 16 weeks? but that is too late for the nuchal test.
Not sure which area of the uk you live in (im in wales) but sounds as though all areas arent making things too clear!
So when is your due date?0 -
I was told at the booking in appointment that i didnt need to see my mw till 16 weeks but the gp asked me to make an appointment to see the mw sooner because it wasnt them that i had the booking appointment with (if that makes sense) so I'm seeing her next Wednesday, but i'll be nearly 13 weeks then
so I think i'll ring the hospital back and make a fuss.
I live in Liverpool, currently 11-4 weeks an my EDD is 1/3/13.Aims for 2014

9 weeks is early for the dating scan but still falls within NHS guidelines. However it's too early for the nuchal fold test (which needs to be between 11 and 13+6 weeks). If you've had a very early dating scan, you should be offered a further, separate scan before 13+6 so that you can have the nuchal fold test (if you want it).
As you've not been offered the nuchal fold test then I think it's unreasonable for them to not offer you a further scan before 13+6. It's all very well scanning you at 9 weeks to establish how far along you are but it's sod all use if you want the nuchal fold test.
This should have been explained to you and I think it's important that you explore this a little more and point out that you've not had the care or information you should have had.
Bear in mind there are other ways of testing for Down's without measuring the nuchal fold: you can have what's called the triple test (some blood tests) instead.

There's the 12 - 24 week thread if you find the big one scary. It's a bit quiet though so many posters go from here straight to the big one. Just give the big one a go. Everyone's really friendly and it won't feel scary after a few posts (about from all the horrendous birth stories of course).
