If you've had a very early dating scan, you should be offered a further, separate scan before 13+6 so that you can have the nuchal fold test (if you want it).
As you've not been offered the nuchal fold test then I think it's unreasonable for them to not offer you a further scan before 13+6. It's all very well scanning you at 9 weeks to establish how far along you are but it's sod all use if you want the nuchal fold test.
This should have been explained to you and I think it's important that you explore this a little more and point out that you've not had the care or information you should have had.
Bear in mind there are other ways of testing for Down's without measuring the nuchal fold: you can have what's called the triple test (some blood tests) instead.
More info here. You really need to talk to your midwife.
Not all areas offer nuchal fold scanning, I was shocked when I found out that my area does not unless I wanted to go private. So I'm settling for the bloods instead.
I also had an early scan due to a bleed and was 11 weeks so they scrapped my original dating scan appointment. NHS in the north west are tight wads :rotfl:I :heart2: saving money0 -

Havent had any sickness which im grateful for but would probably make it a bit more 'real' if i did. Shouldnt complain really!
Me and OH watch the midwives programme on bbc2 last night and we both ended up sobbing at the end as it has really dawned on us that we will be having a little baby in 7 months! How exciting!
Although I have a close friend in work who is 16 weeks at the moment, its really nice to be able to come on here and compare notes/chat to other ladies who are around the same amount of weeks as me.
Hope you are all well.
I think the pains are normal right through the first trimester (maybe even longer) its just everything strethching - hopefully someone more experienced though can correct me I am wrong or back me up on that! I haven't really had any for a couple of weeks now though.
I watched that first midwife programme and blubbed through it! I didn't know it was a series (:j), I am going to force DW to watch it with me tonight, if i can tear her away from the Downton Abbey Box set!
I know what you mean about it feeling more real if you had some sickness, I do feel the same way, but I know we will look back once we have our lovely babies in our arms and be massively grateful!
:j for this forum and being able to share our thoughts/feelings etc. and being in the same boat. This is why I love the internet.Hi everyone,
How is everyone feeling today? today has been a little better up to now, not yet been sick
When did you get your 12 week scan letters? i still havnt had minemight ring up and see about it.
I Know that feeling stuck behind a computer looking at the rain myself
I had a scan at 9 weeks booked at my booking in appointment and the mw there said i would get one at 12 weeks ( its on my notes as requested) but i rang them today and they said the 9 week dating scan was my 12 week one and my next one is 20 weeksi might ring again and request a 12 week one, or talk to my mw at my appointment but thats not till next wed.
I really dont know what to do, its my 1st baby and they havnt really explained it very well
Hi Ellie, that seems awfully long. I would ring back and double check. I had my booking in appt today and just for comparison (it might differ on where you live) I have the following:
Booking in appt 11-12th week and scan should be around the same time
anomaly scan 18th-20th week
Antenatal visits: 16,25,28,31,34,36,38,40 (41 if necessary)
hope this helps, let us know how you get on! xBaby 2b born March 2013! :j:j:j0 -
With the first bounty pack, is there anything else I need to look out for?
- I've got the voucher to collect the 2nd pack from boots
- And the voucher for the free huggies from Tesco
Anything else I might have missed?
xxBaby 2b born March 2013! :j:j:j0 -
Oooh, I don't remember the voucher for a 2nd pack
or for the Huggies
I ended up with 2 first bounty packs and one of the second one. Midwife gave me one of the first ones at the booking in appt and The GP gave me a form to collect one from Boots or Superdrug. Both contained the same bits
The second one, the hospital midwife gave to me after the scan.
I'm loving the little sudocreme, I think I will keep that for out and about and top it up from a bigger tub!
2b- have you sent off the form to join the bounty club? xx
Bad pukey day today. I projectile puked (TMI) everywhere brushing my teeth this morning. I'm 13 weeks tomorrow, so hope it b*ggers off soon!!0 -
I had no period type pains in first trimester but have had two brief twinges recently (now 25wks!) but with all the stretching going on I think it's normal.0
-
abbybryan1982 and 2ba3c - I have had period type pains with all 3 of mine and have currently got them now. Quite stabby period like pains in my groin area.
You will get all sorts of aches and pains throughout the whole pregnancy and they are (usually) just normal stretching pains of some sort. I had dreadful stitch like pains at around seven months with my 3rd baby - quite breathtaking ones!
Like with all pregnancies (all of mine were different!), everyone is different and will experience different symptoms at different times or sometimes not at all!
Obviously if you are ever really concerned, do speak to your doctor or midwife - don't just take my word for it! But from experience pregnancy brings lots of aches, pains and ups and downs!!
Just take it easy and look after yourself, it can be hard work growing a baby!!0 -
I am super confused re folic acid - can anybody shed any light.
The pregnancy supplement that I am taking (boots - pregnancy support plus) says that it contains 400 micrograms, which I think is less than the required dose?
can anybody shed any light?Baby 2b born March 2013! :j:j:j0 -
I've just worked it out!
I was thrown by the midwife saying that I need to take 5mg, as this is a much higher doseage that what I am currently taking.
For most women, the dose is 400 micrograms (0.4 mg) a day.
If your risk of having a child with a spinal cord problem is increased then the dose is higher (5 mg a day - you need a prescription for this higher dose). That is, if:
You have had a previously affected pregnancy.
You or your partner have (or have a family of) a spinal cord defect.
You are taking medication for epilepsy.
You are obese - especially if your Body Mass Index (BMI) is 30 or more.
You have coeliac disease, diabetes, sickle cell anaemia, or thalassaemia.
So do I need go back to the doctor to get a prescription for folic acid (5mg)?Baby 2b born March 2013! :j:j:j0 -

I'm only taking 400 as I thought that was the correct dosage. Not taking any other vitamins either hope I'm not doing the wrong thing too!0 -
2b 400mcg is what I take and I have been told that's enough and my bmi is 31 (was 32.5 at beginning of pregnancy) and my bio father has spina bifida occulta which isn't a "serious" spinal prob. I asked about the higher dose but they said my pregnacare ones I'm taking are fine.Saving money like a trouper...0
