I totally agree with others on here.

It's going to come out sooner or later to others that your brother is disabled (even though it is nothing to do with anyone else and nothing to be ashamed of). So you might aswell mention to some of the parents just so that they are aware and are also aware of your situation, some might stay/help if you mention this?

If I were you I wouldnt want my brother there either. Tricky as it may be with your mother tell her that there has been a change of plan and that it is a school only party and that you feel that your brother will intimadate the other children though no fault of his own but that this is not fair for the other children and they are much to young to experince this. If this dosent work tell your mum that you have told the other parents and they are not happy for their children to be around your brother so will not come if he is attending. (Small white lie) well it might not be a lie if some of the parents knew. I wouldnt want to take my 5 year old to a party and leave them there with someone who might scare them, and I would be angry if I wasnt told before the party that this might happen.

Some people are brilliant around disabled people and others are simply not again this is not their fault. I am one of the people that dont feel comfortable it sounds really bad and if someone who was disabled needed help etc of course I would be there I wouldnt discriminate against them but I cant help feeling alittle uneasy around some people as they are not predictable and do think differntly.

Be firm with your mum for yours daughters sake. To be honest if your mum is going to be grumpy about this and she will be at the party just tell her you would like to have a seperate party and you will see your mum and brother at the family party.

Its a real shame you had to make a decision like this, but glad you were able to "stand up" and do it!
