See if you can find a local syndicate to provide LPG cylinders at reduced cost - same for bulk LPG. I know there is one that covers Warwickshire.
  • Hi

I'm in Cheshire and pay £59.52 plus vat from Harris Gas.

Why aren't Calor Gas referred to the Monopolies Commission as they are plainly exploiting their monopoly position along with Flogas to the detriment of the consumer. This is exactly what the Monopolies Commission was set up by the government to prevent.

I would like to start a website which tracks bottled 47kg gas prices across the country in order to fight for the energy minister to regulate propane gas prices and remove the VAT from it. There are no websites which compare prices. I live in a rural area and have no real alternative Since I moved in in 2006, my 47kg gas price has risen from £26 to, today £56.50. Five years 102%. Since many people who live in rural areas are already paying the most for energy and have disproportionately low incomes I think a campaign on this is long overdue.

Please post your location and price you are paying. If we all do it we can make a case to the government for regulation or some kind of subsidy which puts propane on a par with mains gas. Sadly overdue I think.

So, I'll start Basildon, Essex: £56.50

I stay in a Residential Caravan Park in Bishopbriggs Glasgow, there are 32 units on site all using the 47K bottles, our supplier is Calor Gas. Just over 15 months ago the price went from £52.50 to £55 until about 6 weeks ago we had a cold call from Flogas who quoted £46.01 inc. vat and delivery. One of our residents called Calor and told them about this price and without any hesitation they dropped their price to £46. We now have the benefit of using either of the 2 companies at this lower price so it might help you if you contact these companies and see if you can get a better deal.

This also highlights the need for industry regulation for obviously we have been getting ripped off for years...:T

There definitely needs to be some kind of regulation, last week I phoned 4 calor stockists in my area (Nottinghamshire) and was quoted £64.80, £67, £72 and £87! Why is there such a wide difference!

I spoke to a calor rep to see if they would reduce my cylinder price down from £64.80 and I was told that my price is high because I don't order enough cylinders a year - it seems so unfair that if you can't afford to order lots of cylinders each month and are careful with your usage (choosing to freeze rather than put the heating on), you are penalized for it by them putting up the price! It seems to be a vicious circle.

The sooner I can move out this house the better - I would NEVER rent another property that runs on calor gas cylinders!

£40 for a 47kg cylinder ..........yes, that does include VAT.

If you are a new customer you'll need to pay a deposit of £25 for one of their cylinders.

    but if not use the

Please let forum users know how you got on (assuming the price was indeed a surprise to you).

Good luck. If you don't wish to fight Flogas yourself please talk to Trading Standards.
