    Result.

Just called O2 customer services, told them about better prices elsewhere and will be paying £16.50 per month for 200 min & 500 sms, with brand new Samsung D500, as opposed to the £28.00 I was paying previously.

So, in 12 months time, assuming that there will be better offers elsewhere, we shall all be doing the same.

Basically this will allow us to get a brand new phone every year, and knock off some £ from our phone bill.

And there will always be that opportunity, as the providers are biting each others' hands off.
  • I have just renewed my contract with Vodafone and it won't cost me a penny for the next twelve months. My contract is for 600 cheap rate minutes and 50 free texts a month. I know this contract won't suite everyone but it's OK for me and better than a PAYG phone. I've kept my old phone (it was new this time last year)as the battery is still going OK and it's still as new. I would only use my phone in the day time in an emergency so it would cost me the same as a PAYG then anyway. I thought other Vodafone customers might be interested to know about this when they come to re new their contracts.

600 mins free for 12 months would suit me, out of contract and not worried about the phone, was it hard work getting them to offer it to you? what did you say to them? Any help you bcan give would great

    Thanks
  • Here's the way I managed my new contract hope it can be of help to someone. I had already cancelled my contract and was to leave on 24/06/05 I had stopped my direct debit when I cancelled my contract after them offering 50 x net minutes for £7.99 for and then 75 x net minutes for £4.99. Well the person that I spoke to after paying my bill let me explain why I was leaving and I explained that as I really only needed my phone for emergency calls I was going to go PAYG as for me this would be the cheaper option and that I didn't need a new phone as the one I have is perfectly OK. This person was actually listening to me and offered me the same contract that I already have but they will credit my a/c each month with the same amount of money that it would normally cost me therefore I pay nothing on my package for the next 12 months. You have to find a person who will actually let you explain why you want to leave otherwise it's a complete waste of time. Hope it can work for you.

I totaly agree with you, it all depends on who answers your call. After 3 phone calls to 02, I got a Samsung D500 with an 02 bluetooth headset free, 750 mins anytime any network for £15.00 a month, before that I was on 1000 mins off peak plus 50 text's for £20.00. I say, don't give in on the first call, it will be worth it in the end. The only thing I will miss is the texts but even at 10p each it's still worth it, as I only use about 20 anyway.

Got Vodafone to reduce my line rental by 40%, down to £7.20 a month over 12 months for 600 off peak mins, and a sony errikson v800. Not mad on the phone, and said I would think about it, at which point he got all high pressure on a decision, saying that the offer was only open there and then.

Do vodafone ever ring back with better offers, or should i leave it a day or so and ring? I lost the extension number of the person I spoke too, which wasn't clever, but maybe someone else might give a better offer?

My expeience of Vodafone (being an former Singlepoint customer) is poor. They had no wish to negotiate a deal or anything, just told me what I needed to do, i.e write in one month prior to the end of the 12 month term.

Don't care really, because O2 will do:

200 Xnet mins + 50 SMS (free itemisation) for £15.00 per month.

Just called O2 again (contract is due to end in 3 days) - said Vodafone had offered me one of their tariffs of 275mins + 100 SMS for £15....they hadn't but hey!

O2 turned round and offered 500Xnet + 100SMS for £15. Still with free V3 Black!

    Good hey?!

Yer, Owwy, O2 are very good. They appear to actually want to keep customers.

My tip, call retentions dept on a few occasions and don't give up. Also quote an actual tariff on another network that you want - for a price you want (even pretend to have been offered it elsewhere) and they can be quite obliging! Lastly, call during the day as the people appear to be more knowledgeable and 'grown up'!

About time people got a better deal on mobile contracts :-)
