So from my earlier post I got my PAC from Vodafone, they NEVER called me back to try and keep me (I spend about £150 a month with them, been with them since 2001).
Anyway, I signed up to Three (3) on e2save.com last Thursday and got 500mins and 100txts for £3.99 for 12 months (12 month contract) with the LGu8130. It's only 11 months on the site, but I price matched it with a 12month offer on just3g.co.uk. That's £48 for the year!!!
Was worried about 3 (no pun intended!) things:
1. Size of phone - it's actually fine, tiny bit chunkier than my nokia 6230.
2. Battery life - Again pleasantly surprised. Had it on for 72 hours now, made a few calls, entered all my numbers into the phone book which took AGES and battery is now showing last bar. MUCH better than I expected.
3. Coverage. I live in London. No probs anywhere here. Drove down to Chichester at the weekend. No probs at all. It roams onto O2 network if there's no 3G coverage.
Only time will tell if I get dropped calls, but my friend who's been with them for 12 months IS RENEWING his contract! Gasp!
Sorry to go on for so long, but hopefully it's useful.
Finally, and please don't hit me  but if you think this is helpful and want to buy thorough e2save.com then you could use this link
http://www.e2save.com/?money4me1345657
and I get commission. Now if this is TOTALLY inappropriate and against the ethos of the site (is it?)then please shout at me and I will remove it! Or tell the administrator!
Obviously you can order without using the link. By the way I promise I don't work for Three or e2save or anyone. Well I work for a bank, but nothing to do with phones!
Let me know if you do use the link so I can see if they actually do pay up!0 -
The mobile phone industry is highly competitve now with 3 doing so well as the new entrant and taking everybody else's customers. Therefore, all the networks are desperate to keep hold of their customers so I agree its definitely worth pushing for a better deal. Remember if you're happy to keep your exisitng phone then really push hard for A MUCH BETTER deal - the networks assume you want a new phone (cost £200-300) so if you keep hold of your phone they'll throw that money at you in a better package. But remember don't expect the earth if you don't use your phone much - it's the high value customers that they're really keen to keep hold of.0

I ve been an orange customer for ten years this july, for the past 10 months i have been on an ovp tarrif where they have matched 3s 750 mins for £35.00 per month but as soon as i have exceeded the mins i have been charged upto 35p per min for crossed network calls.
I called orange and requested my pac number, giving notice that i would be leaving in july. After complaining about excessive call charges the orange operator offered me a new package:
cancel my exsisting contract which still had 2 months remaining
start a new 12 month contract
750 mins plus an additional 200 mins all cross network
60 text messages
prices guaranteed for 18 months
a free upgrade to a nokia 3230 camera phone
all for £35.00 per month
I didnt push too hard because they actually called my bluff when i threatened to leave last year.0 -
has anyone renewed their contract without getting a new phone and had the phone cost taken off the line rental instead of getting a phone? Thinking about trying this later, but wondered if anyone had any luck before I tried0

As many others went to Orange and told them I wanted the 3 tariff or I would cancel. They put me onto cancellations department and they matched it.
£25 500 mins and 30 texts thrown in aswell - They really dont want to lose your custom.
many thanks Martin !!!Waddle you do eh?0 -

Not worth trying - networks couldn't give you the value of the phone since this would eradicate their margin - better just to push for as high an upgrade as possible then sell the phone on Ebay.0 -
I have been with O2 for over two years and I wanted an upgrade on my phone this time around, but they wanted to charge me £50. To cut a long story short I have taken out a new contract on 3 with a 6680 handset. I am on the Talk and Text 600 tariff which is 500 xnet mins and 100 text for £30 a month. I got the phone yesterday and phoned O2 asking for my PAC code. I got put through to cancellations who tried to persuade me to stay by offering 500 xnet mins and 400 texts for £25. The only problem is that I would have to wait a couple of weeks for the 6680 to become available and I don't believe them that they will do the phone as a free upgrade. I would stay, but when I first phoned up and told them the deal I had seen with 3, they were like 'that is much better than us, you should take that'. So I think I am.0

Just thought I would add my experiences for the future reference of Vodafone customers looking to upgrade.
Had a 1 year contract with Vodafone which was due to end in a couple of weeks. My contract consisted of 100 xnet anytime mins and 50 text/12 pic messages @ £14.99 pm with a Samsung E710.
Hadn't got a problem with the contract as it suits my needs but I wanted the next model phone which is the Samsung E720. As I'm not a big spender I knew from past experiences that Voda aren't reknowned for their over generosity when it comes to upgrades. So I bypassed upgrades and went straight for the "disconnections moving networks but keeping my number" option. Explained that I was happy to stay with them and the contract I had suited me but I wanted a new phone. They offered me the following options:
Same contract for another 12 months and pay £29.99 & Free del for a E720 or
Same contract for 18 months and pay £9.99 & free del for a E720.
I went for the latter as I need the extra £20 spondoolies at the moment. I am very happy and it saves all the messing around with changing and porting.
Good Luck and remember don't bother with Upgrades- go for disconnections!"There are no pockets in a shroud..."0 -
I am new to this forum though id say hi and hopefully will save me some pennies!Anyway here is my experience.Phoned Orange about a PAC code, found out my contract is up on Oct 19th.Guy on the phone said no offers at the moment and it would cost around 100pounds to disconnect and issue a PAC code.He said he wasnt able to issue a PAC code without payment! Is this right or am i being fed a load of old pony?I am after a Motorola V3 and a few more texts/minutes!0
