kazd, when you ring the retention dept if they're busy then calls 'overflow' to the regular customer services. I know this as it happened to me.

I'd recommend you follow andy's suggestion but ring their retention (PAC code) dept early weekday morning (soon after 9am as poss) before they become busy and calls are then routed to regular customer services.

Ring and ask if this is customer services (to make sure)? If they reply no its PAC code dept then just go on and say you misplaced the PAC code already given (as they'll have on record one was issued) and could you have another one, then follow andy's suggestion.

Voda's freephone (from landline) for PAC code is 08080 945 945.

I did this when I was on Voda PAYG shortly after they increased their prices to 30p for first 3mins. I just rung and asked for PAC code and said I didn't wanna leave but o2 & orange were only doing calls for 25p for first 3mins. They then offered me a (so called) 'new' tariff that made their calls only 25p for first 3mins. What they mean is they put me back on their old tariff before the price increase!
  • I have been with Vodafone (thru CPW) since 2001. My average monthly bill is over £150. I called up and explained that I wanted to upgrade my phone and get a better monthly line rental.
The guy said I could get a good new handset (V3 for example) with the same line rental or a !!!!!! handset and reduced line rental (3 months half price)
I said not good enough and told him I wanted to cancel my contract, and was duely put through to cancellations. It was the same story there - the guy said I had £240 credit towards a new handset as I was a very high spender - he said I could get ANY handset out, even the Nokia business thingy with the keyboard.
I said I really wanted half price line rental as that's what all the other networks are offering. He wouldn't budge and said that's their policy - he agreed that I spend a LOT of money with them but there was nothing he could do, so I've given my 30 days notice!
Maybe I'll get a phone call from them before the 30 days are up, we'll see........
  • klausington,
with a monthly spend like yours, they'd be mugs to let you off their hook. I'll have a couple of quid to my favourite charity if they don't call you.
...and then the window licker said to me...

I phoned the Orange 0800 to haggle over my contract which was due for expiry next month and straight away got..a new phone (offered my choice of the best), 500 anytime minutes and 150 texts for £25 per month. Previously I was getting 400 mins for £50. Result!!

  • Sorry to be stupid but maybe someone can help me out of my confusion....

I'm currently on Orange Everyday 50 (£17.99 monthly) and my bills are never less than £40. That means I get 50 mins of calls to landline or Orange numbers from 7pm to 7am a day and all day at weekends. My husband is also on Orange so it means we can call each other for free at those times. We use it quite a lot just now, as I work away, but I'm leaving work in Nov to take some time out and then do another degree.

My questions - what would be the best Orange package to go for - as light a user as possible - and can I do this now even though my contract runs out in Aug?

The ED50 package isn't offered anymore so would they offer any incentives to me to change?

Maybe the benefit of us both being on Orange would be cancelled out by the benefit of me moving networks? Or should I move to PAYG (can I keep my number?) because husband could always call me for free?

So many questions! I'll do some research over lunch but thanks in advance!

Enthused by the reports here my wife just tried to reduce the cost of her Orange bill. She has been a customer with Orange for more than 8 years and was on a historic 'Talk 120' which was extended to 150 minuets (no texts) for £21 a month but normally paid £25 to £30 a month and went through the process of asking for a better deal as she has seen that she can get a 500 min/100texts for £15 from 3 along with a new free all singing and dancing handset.

Orange were not interested in the slightest as she was a 'modest user' and 'there was no point in investing' in her! They sent the SAC number a few seconds after terminating the call.

Not a good outcome - make us think Orange are really not interested in their customers at all.
  • FJSRiDer,
play them at their own game. Take out a new contract with Orange through https://www.e2save.com for example. Get a state of the art new phone, sell it for a tidy sum, pop the sim card in your old phone. And don't forget to get one of the reduced line rental/cashback deals. If you want to keep the old number port it first to a PAYG on another network. Then port it to your new Orange sim. Who's laughing now? :D

I phoned Vodafone to request PAC codes on my 2 sim cards and was offered 30 mins calls + 30 text + 30 video minutes for £9 per month (1/2 price line rental) for 8 months, month 9 at £18 and then Month 10 to 12 could be renegotiated. They also threw in a free Motorola V980.

I really want the Sony Ericsson V800, but when I asked Vodafone for this, they just told me the upgrade fee would be at least £150 and I wouldn't get 1/2 price line rental.

Has anyone else managed to get the V800 out of Vodafone free and on a decent deal?

The best I have seen from other sites for the phone on a new contract with Vodafone is e2save with "3G Anytime 300" 12 month contract for £30 per month and £100 cashback.

Im on everyday 50, called for my PAC code said I was moving to 3, Orange didnt want to know about matching it. Got a letter from Orange yesterday with my PAC code, saying how sorry they were to lose me as a customer, and If I rang them they would tell me all about there value packages.

I rang them today and without even asking got the following deal:

    Free D500
    500 x Net anytime minutes
    60 texts
    £29 per month

I believe you can sell the everyday 50 package on ebay for around £50-60, then just take out a new contract through e2save or something!
