I've cancelled my old Orange deal & I'm gonna take up another one with Orange again to get the freebies & 6 months free line rental via cash back :j
A bit of a faff around with having to let people know I've changed numbers, but for 6 months free line rental I can live with that inconvenience!
Thanks for all your help guys!

Can't you get the PAC code, transfer it to a PAYG sim from another supplier, open the new Orange account and transfer the number back.....0 -
what about the 'orange value promise' or whatever it was called, they used to match any tariff that any network was offering.
voda transferred my payg number to my contract sim when i joined, i wonder if virgin will take it up next year when i join them again (they ARE the best network- shame they don't do contract- yet)
some networks will pull out all the stops to retain you, some will just wave you goodbye, i knew t-mobile did the kind of thing they did for me because the reason i signed up was down to a recommendation from a friend who renewed his contract after 12 months and kept his existing handset and got his line for £7.99 a month.
o2 used to- my ex driving instructor had been with them for years and each year she either got a new phone or lower line rental.things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok
I trust BH even if he's from Manchester..
all your base are belong to us :eek:0 -
danjaq2004 wrote:That's a great deal 'before hollywood' - I presume that you don't call across network then / call peak?
same network/ landlines peak is 40p a minute and cross net peak is about 50p per minute
but £3.99 a month!!!!! :j :j
a few minutes on the phone, and cancel my insurance (it never leaves the house anyway) and i wiped £15 a month off my bills :money:
i phone peak and cross net on my other contract phone, it means i can use all my 100 minutes to do the daytime and cross net things (means i can use my main phone on my days off)
don't know what i will do when my voda contract is up, but thats 10 months away (18 month contract  )- wonder if i get a free upgrade after 12 months? :rotfl:things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok

I spoke to O2 and they explained that you cannot PAC in a number to a line which has been active for more than 30 days. Therefore, a PAC can only be used when you take out a new line (so also not applicable to an upgrade).
It is a shame I know, but hey - I'd rather have a great deal on an upgrade (organised through retentions dept) than keep a number and pay much more per month!0 -
Trist,
FJSRiDER is right, port your number to a PAYG (the free O2 sim being a favourite) then back again to your new contract. A fairly simple process.
As for your negotiating skills, it sounds to me like you may have come across to them as though you had already made your mind up about leaving. Your voice needs to be edged with uncertainty. It also depends on who you get to speak to on the day. Luck of the draw I'm afraid....and then the window licker said to me...0 -
Hi All (1st post, just joined)
I tried Orange in the hope that they might be looking to upgrade me. I am on an old expired contract - 200 mins off peak for £30 though I often go double this. The best they were prepared to do was upgrade me to 260 mins anytime + 50 texts mentioning this was a match for an O2 deal.
I had a look at the O2 website - they have a £30 tariff for 300 mins anytime + 50 texts. I called Orange again who said they would NOT match this deal as it was a "promotion" and not a regular tariff. In conversation with several "retention" staff it looks like Orange refer to any package that they won't match as "promotion". Orange also insisted that the O2 package is for 18 months (no just 12!).
Orange would also not match the O2 "bring your own phone" £30 deal of 400 mins and 1000 texts p/m (with no tie in just a 30 day notice period).
When I expressed my disappointment with the offers I had been made - I was told some waffle about the net-works looking at investment and charges etc. In translation - if you use your phone a lot Orange will try and keep you. If you don't use it much, you are better changing your provider. Like many companies, they rely on inertia.
So much for their current advertising campaign ;^(
For anyone interested - the bring your own phone (as I called it) deal is one of their "SIM only" packages and can be found at:
http://shop.o2.co.uk/cgi-bin/o2uk/jsp/tariffs/selectSimOnlyTariff.do?menu=y
Hope this helps. Iain.0 -
Where can I find out about the 'bring your own phone' deal you mentioned?0

I just switched from an O2 contract with 500 texts and 100 mins for £25 p.m to Vodafone who gave me the new Smasung E720, 500 texts and 200 mins (including their use no more than 3 mins after 7p.m and on weekends for £15 p.m.
I was chuffed and contacted O2 to se if they would match it as my wife's contract had expired and they did so she is waiting for a week to get the new Nokia (6680? or something like that) and will get the same number of texts and minutes for £15 p.m too.
All I need to do now is work out how to unlock my E720. Off to surf for clues!0 -
Hello! Im v pleased with myself as I have just made my first mobile cost killing!
I have been on contract with O2 for 18months. When my 12month contract was up they offered me a half price line rental in order to keep my custom. I got a bill this month, 18 months in, which showed that the cost had rocketed back up. So I rang them up just to ask if I could keep my half price line rental deal. I was told that wouldn't be possible, so I threatened to terminate my contract and move to T-Mobile. I was put thru to a nice young man who arranged a years half price line rental and I have a brand new phone, free, winging its way to me! I didnt even want a new phone!
So my first victory against the world of big business! Im off for a beer now to celebrate!0
