Hi Weasel and SawyerRe
Another Newbie here too - I'm not following any kind of diet at the moment, just trying to make healthier choices and exercise a lot more. I think I'll probably flit between this and following the WW discover plan, as I've got all the material I could ever need for that!
I went to the group today, and it really was a bit of a disaster! There's a 11.45am and the 12.45am that I'd been told about, turns out the 11.45am is the actual group part, with discussions and information, and the 12.45am is more just a drop in to be weighed if you want to be... So, I missed the group but stuck around to be weighed and measured and poked and prodded.. Only, my fears weren't irrational after all, and they did only have scales that went up to 19stThankfully I was the only one around at that point, so I didn't have to turn beetroot red and run away!
The bloke running it was very nice and didn't make me feel awful of anything, and is going to get hold of some different scales for next week, but in the mean time I'm going to try and see my GP and be weighed there, as well as starting a food diary for the weight group.
None of that matters though, because I'm actually proud of myself. When I walked out of the hall feeling fat and despondent all I wanted to do was run to the shops and buy masses of junk food, but I didn't, I walked to the park and spent an hour running about with my 2 year old instead - so that's my exercise for today. I also weighed myself when I got home 'just in case it worked', and instead of immediately screaming 'ERROR!!' the display was flickering between 'Err' and 23st13lb - if that's right, I'm nearly down to being able to use the scales again, and have lost over 7lbPaying off CC in 2011 £2100/£1692

That's great SGTG. Sorry that it seemed like a disaster but you're focussing on the main point of getting there in the first place. Looking back at your initial post on it that was a huge step for you. Really proud of the way you reacted. Here's to next week's for you!
Thanks for the welcome, everyone.0 -
According to the scales at boots I have gained 3lb gain SW and I are now parting company, sure it was lovely, had the most wonderful curries, the youngest enjoyed SW chips, the OH loved the fresh stir fries etc but that 3lb gain takes me over a 1stone gainage and can't have that.
I always said that the carbs needed to be burnt off, as the rice, pots and SW chips are fab to eat they are indeed but they gained me because they sit there festering fat:D I tried it for 2 weeks, 0 loss and 3lb gain, not for me thanks:D
Followed it to the letter, syn by syn and recipe by recipe.:D0 -

Victory - if the old plan worked for you and this one doesnt, then stick with what you know works is my advice0 -

victory so sorry to hear you didnt get on with SW - but hey each to their own some stuff suits some and not others. Well done for giving it a good go though. If you were interested, I would suggest that you maybe go back to the class and show the consultant your food diary - maybe there is something wrong that you can't see.
Or perhaps post your food diary here again so sary and I can check it. Sometimes it can be the littlest thing steernig you wrong, like sugar in tea not being synned, cooking oil not being measured, or even not eating enough syns, for instance
I know what you mean about carbs, but when I stick to SW I eat carb-heavy meals every day and always lose, hardly doing any exercise (davina is gathering dust:()
SW does promote exercise but always say the plan will work without it.
A strange result for you there victory, but I would not blame you for stopping the plan if it's not for you. Perhaps a return to cal counting or WW will be the answer for you? We are here to help anyway, with whatever you decide to do
Feeling a bit better now, had a banana on toast which boosted my energy.Betty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....

Well, I can immediately tell you no oils were used syn or otherwise only use frylight and that is just recently sparingly simply because my frying pan has lost it's non stick (buying another one tomorrow) usually just add a bit of water to get it going, no sugar in tea as diabetic and do not drink coffee or tea just hot bovril.
B has been cereal with skimmed milk and frozen berries
L is either beans on toast or scrambled egg or mushrooms and toms and beans or a combination of that with one slice of 50/50 bread, no spread.
L also dyno rod soup other SW soups, pasta soup all from the SW website
D has been red thai curry and SW chips or stir fry with noodles or cod meditteranean sauce and rice or SW chips all from SW website, quorn cottage pie stuffed with all kinds of veg, gammon and SW chips with peas, today it was prawn curry, yesterday it was chilli con carne (made with chicken) from the SW booklet,
I have been eating in the soups and on toast at L huge amounts of beans all kinds of beans, my OH was a bit alarmed when I bought from sainsburys 5 can special bought that times 5 soya, canneloni, haricot you name it for the soups etc I bought it, the rice, pots and noodles have been SW versions which are loads compared to WW as you don't ration it count it calorie it so it goes onto the plate as it goes until it is enough, I have had more cals than ever and obviously 3lb gain makes me 11,500 cals more than I need, instead of decreasing by 3,500 to loose 1lb my cals are 3 times more to gain?
Snacks are lean meats(been buying my own cooking it so it is lean, cut it up and we have it in the fridge for everyone to help themselves)
or WW yogs or mullerlight yogs, sugar free jelly with melon, banana, fruits of the forest etc, nothing has changed, all the same from the SW easy menu, nothing def added and nothing taken away, no sweets, no biscuits, no pies, no pastries,no sugar, no chocs, no junk, just free home made meal that all the family have enjoyed, very tomato based and full of veg (carrots, courgettes, beans of all kinds, swede, butternut squash, you name the veg it has been added to the sauce, peppers, all the spices)
Tomorrow L will be subway turkey with all the salad
B will be cereal with skimmed milk and berries
D is left overs from today chilli con carne stuffed with carrots and beans etc...
Also I don't drink any alcohol all bar xmas or a special celebration and then no more than 2.
Also the SW eating way makes me lovely and full and in no need practically to snack, the diabetic numbers are getting used to it, I am satisfied, I can see the pros to it no need to binge go mad, loose the will, go off the diet and eat for England as it is very satisfying foods I eat but the cons are the weight gain takes me over 1 stone not impressed.
In Aldi they have lemon grass in glass jars and lemongrass powder, perfect for the SW curries and the lemon grass really brings out the taste.
The coconut dessicated is a master stroke that is very tasty and less expensive and wasteful than the cans which at £1.97 is well pricy.0 -
Ok I am going to look at this to see if I can spot anything wrong...B has been cereal - which cereal and how much?
with skimmed milk how much?
and frozen berries
L is either beans on toast or scrambled egg or mushrooms and toms and beans or a combination of that with one slice of 50/50 bread - this is synned (4 syns) , no spread. do you add anything else, like ketchup?
L also dyno rod soup other SW soups, pasta soup all from the SW website
SW Soup should be fine, but the eggs or beans on toast lacks the 1/3 superfree
D has been red thai curry and SW chips any veg?
stir fry with noodles
cod meditteranean sauce and rice - any veg? again, need 1/3 superfree
SW chips all from SW website - any veg?
gammon and SW chips with peas - fat free gammon?
was prawn curry, any veg?
chilli con carne (made with chicken) from the SW booklet, any veg?
were any of these meals synned at all in the recipes??
Snacks are lean meats - does this include ham, some pre-packed ham has fat that needs trimming or WW yogs or mullerlight yogs, sugar free jelly with melon, banana, fruits of the forest etc, nothing has changed, all the same from the SW easy menu, nothing def added and nothing taken away, no sweets, no biscuits, no pies, no pastries,no sugar, no chocs, no junk, just free home made meal that all the family have enjoyed, very tomato based and full of veg (carrots, courgettes, beans of all kinds, swede, butternut squash, you name the veg it has been added to the sauce, peppers, all the spices)
.
right well it might be that you haven't used enough syns - these menus are mostly syn-free apart from the thai curry if I recall, but you've only had 4 syns per day on average and you need to have about 10.
Your cereal and milk can be HEA and HEB depending on what they are and how much you have - have you been weighing and measuring everything?
Have you measured and weighed all extras/synned ingredients, like coconut?
Have all of your meals has 1/3 plate full of superfree veggies, salad or fruit? Peas and corn are not superfree and niether is potato - its free, but not superfree. superfree includes mushrooms, onion, greens, salad, toms, peppers, etc.
sorry if this doesn't help....Betty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....
