As you can see, it's far from clear-cut.

What interested me was this part of the article:

"Some believe the lower the cholesterol level, the better in terms of preventing heart disease. These people argue that because cholesterol-lowering drugs mostly appear to have minimal side-effects, almost everyone should take them. But other experts argue that the research evidence doesn't show any particular benefit for certain low-risk groups, such as women who don't have a history of heart disease, and some point to recent concerns about side-effects, such as damage to muscles or the kidneys.

With anticholesterol drugs now being sold without prescription at the pharmacy, the decision about how far to control cholesterol is being pushed into the consumer's hands"

'They mostly appear to have minimal side-effects'. The young, up-to-date GP whom I saw a couple of weeks ago stated quite clearly and unequivocally that hair loss was a known side-effect. As a woman I'm not happy about losing hair. End of story.

DH is thinking along the same lines. He was advised to take them because he's a Type II insulin-using diabetic and these things are particularly pushed at diabetics. He has the side-effect of muscle weakness and muscle spasm - cramps, which wake him up at night - and also when his leg muscles go into spasm it hurts his 4th-time-replaced knee by pulling on the tendons.

the usual low fat dogma that the science is just not there to support :(

i love the logic thats coming in now, since half the people that get CHD / CVD have low cholesterol we must therefore reduce cholesterol even more lol bonkers

    Question:

How long after eating do you wait before drinking water? Or does it not matter in the slightest?

    Thanks

It sounds like I am not the only one with 'dodgy' knees. I have rested today and the pain has eased off a bit. I suppose I just need to be sensible and not try to do too much too soon. Good to hear that your GP felt light running would help Eric, I will check with mine. I am sure that in the long run losing weight will also help.

Looking forward to getting weighed in the morning to see if I have lost any weight.

A few too many Easter eggs consumed (why do people not believe you when you ask them not to buy you any:mad:) but on the whole feel I have eaten a healthier diet and excercised more this week.

Another one with dodgy knees. I've never been able to squat.

I went to the gym this evening!!! First time in about 2 and a half/3 months that i've done any exercise. I felt gooooooooooooooood!!!!! Knocked out 20 mins on the cross trainer with a HR of 170-178 Then did 11 mins on the rowing machine before i went onto the weights. I thought i'd ease myself in after such a long time, my heart probably wondered what was going on!!
  • Fred - can you please add another 3.17 miles to my marathon total :j another 25 min run completed today :j

Vixarooni - well done on getting to the gym. Is your foot healed now ?

Betty - take care of that knee, don't rush too much to get back or you could do more damage

Good luck tomorrow with weigh in everyone :D

Victory - hope you got your laptop fixed and are ok ?
    Restarting C25K in 2014 - Week 8 - 1/3 completed

Need to loose 25lb / 3lb lost so far :(
