I attempted to join in on the last thread, but it never really happened
Since the New Year, I've been following the OS forum, and have been avoiding junk most of the month and making almost everything from scratchMy OH, who's been eating exactly the same as me has lost about 6-7lb - I've been doing a lot more exercise than him but I've no way of weighing myself 'cause embarrassingly enough, I'm too heavy for the wii board and the bathroom scales - they just cry at me.. I think I've lost a few pounds though. Last time I weighed myself was at ww about 4 months ago, and I think I must be about 24 1/2 st
At the moment I'm just trying to get down to 23st10 so I can actually track my weight!
There's a NHS weight group on tomorrow, all free, which sounds like a weekly weigh in and a chat about exercise and nutrition etc. I've been meaning to go for the last 2 weeks, but it's difficult to convince myself. I'm sure that I'll be the biggest there, and that they'll be loads of other 'mums' there from the school gawking at me. Sounds ridiculous I know, but I just can't seem to fit in around here, and my weight is just one more thing that sets me apart
All I can do is try I guess, and stick to the 'exercise 3 times a week' challenge I've just joined... and try to eat healthily
Looking forward to chatting to you all, SGTG x

My son has been on and off my weighing scales and caused it to make an errr2 message, when I fix it I will get weighed if not tomrrow in town at the boots chemist one:D
eric i understand that she threw the way in just don't understand how she or others do that? Do they continue to eat? Not exercise? How do they manage to loose just 1lb when the others loose at least half a stone a week?:D
they drink salt water, i think the record is 22lbs in water retention, flushes out after 2-3 days if they stop taking the salt0 -
Good luck somethingsgottogive I'm sure the first visit will be the hardest - be brave and let us know how you get on.0

Hey gang. Oooh, shiny new thread, thanks Fred.
Welcome to the new members.
Somethingsgottogive - I felt the same as you when I joined Slimming World a couple of months back. I thought everyone else would be thinner than me, and that they'd all know each other already and I'd be left out. I couldn't have been more wrong. The only thing standing in your way is you. Just remember that most of the people going along to the clinic at the doctors will be feeling just the same as you. I say give yourself the chance to have some support in the 'real world', as well as on here. Also, you have to bear in mind that for a lot of people the amount of weight they have to use is relative, so whilst I may have looked at another SW member needing to only lose 9lb as not really having a problem with their weight, in their head they could have needed to lose 9 stone, it was that important to them. If other people are going along to the clinic they feel just the same as you, so judge them by their attitude, not their size in relation to your's would be my advice. I hope it goes well for you, and let us know how you got on.
Victory - I'm glad you enjoyed the soup. I told you it was delicious didn't I? I love the fact you can tweak it to your own taste, and a big bonus that your youngest loves it too. I have to hide it from my sons now. I came back from SW class tonight, and half my bloody SW quiche has been eaten. My 2nd & 3rd youngest both greeted me with a 'wow, the quiche you made us was great, really tasty!'..... that was MY quiche to snack on for the next few days, but I didn't have the heart to tell them. They've eaten something healthy, and think it was a treat.
I've had a 100% week, and am aiming to make the next one 100% too. The gym is going well, and another lady commented today to me that she has followed me around a few times, and is amazed at the weights I lift! For a small 5' nothing I am packing the power! :rotfl: I did some new chest/arm exercises today and OMG my muscles are aching, but it's all positive stuff.
Keep up the good work guys, have a great week. One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

thanks fred - nice colourful chart - just what we need to get us through a dull february
eric - salt water  why arent they just puking it back up? i thought salt water was an emetic?
Tomorrow I'm going to have a proper look at that software you kindly sent over and set it up. Now that all the january deadlines have passed i feel like ive got a bit more spare time than i did before. How are you finding life at work without the internet?0 -
SGTG  welcome to the thread - it sounds like youre in the right frame of mind to do this - so keep doing what youre doing - if group support is the thing that does it for you then you should go to the meeting even if you are the biggest one there - whats the worst that can happen? some people might stare? thats a small price to pay for what you could potentially come away from the meeting with. I wish we had something like that round here. Is it an "open" meeting? Do you have a friend that could go along for moral support or maybe your OH?
It's disheartening to have scales that you max out... not just because you cant keep track but also because it makes you feel that youre such a long way from "normal".
There are bathroom scales that go up to 30st (I had to get a set because i was - and still am - in the same position as you where most sets max out) they're not particularly more expensive than the others either just a more limited choice.
Alternatively, Boots have scales that you put 50p in and gives you a printout. It really would spur you on to see in writing those numbers dropping!
Anyway, theres plenty of support here whenever you need it and youre not the biggest person in this room, but we wouldnt gawk even if you were. Exercise 3 times a week is a good too, what sort of exercise have you been doing? are you finding that its getting any easier yet?
Take care, puds0 -

it doesnt have to be a very strong concentration of salt to cause you to retain huge amounts of weight, i ate a heinz big soup which was extremely salty and i put on 3lbs the next day ....0 -
Good morning
Thanks for your messages and encouragement! I am going to go this afternoon, despite a raging headache, sore knees and the freezing cold... Is it an "open" meeting? Do you have a friend that could go along for moral support or maybe your OH?...

Hi Puds
No, unfortunately I'd have to go on my own as it's in the afternoon and OH works, and I don't really know anyone that would want to go/I'd be comfortable asking. The good thing is though, that as much as I am pretty terrified of new social situations I'm very good at 'faking it 'til I make it' iyswim.
Maxing out the scales is a bit of a wake up call tbh, as embarrassing as it is! That's the one thing I'm dreading - the group today not having suitable scales- I'm really hoping that they have proper WWesque scales or I'm going to end up crying and running away!
As for exercise, up until the last few days I've just been walking. It's a good 40-50 minute walk just doing the school run everyday, but I've been trying to do some extra steps, as well as setting a 30 minute timer and dancing around the living room to loud music, or doing dance games on things like Raving Rabbids on the Wii - just anything to get moving. My 2 year old looks at me like I'm insane but joins in after a few minutes, lol
What kind of things are you doing? Do you go to any sort of groups or just chat to people here?

ETA. Forgot to say, Sarymclary, I do try to remind myself that people are more concerned about their bodies and their own weight loss, but it's had when, as you say 'it doesn't look like they need to lose weight' and I'm there, more than a whole person over weight! Still. positive attitude shall win out eventuallyPaying off CC in 2011 £2100/£1692
