Today I achieved something I never thought I ever would. I've been going for one-to-one swimming lessons, gradually building up confidence and conquering the fear and panic - oh so slooowly!

Today I swam across the pool using the woggle and getting my head up to breathe. This has been the big stumbling-block. I could NEVER get my head up, breathe, put head back down. I can only do it now using the woggle, but at last I can see how it will be possible with time and practice.

I actually swam in this manner, 4 times across the pool. That was 28 metres in total.

I was on a 'high', I felt so confident, I called in at the surgery on my way home. Been thinking about it for a long time. I am actually going to see one of the GPs about my sloooow weight loss. I am doing everything I should be doing and should really be able to lose weight, instead of bouncing about at the same weight day in day out, week in week out. I don't want to be referred to the practice nurse who runs a weight loss clinic, because I don't think she knows any more than I do. Nor do I want to be put on Xenical - DH was on this for a short period, and the results were disastrous. I'd like to be referred to a real expert, someone like the guy who does Supersize vs Superskinny. I don't even mind paying for it if that was necessary.

I'm continuing with the one-to-one twice a week, practice another day, and stretch and tone in the WI Hall. That's 4 days a week exercise, and another day walking with my trek poles.

Well done margaret clare! I take my hat off to you for putting your head in. I think if you're going to swim you need to swim properly, which involves putting your head in. Else you end up looking a !!!! with neck ache!

Lolly - ha that was a bit of a random purchase!! I'm debating whether to waste my money on a hula hoop but after you've purchased a teadmill i think i'll get moving on it!!

Oh yes, putting my head in was not the problem. I've been able to do front paddle for a long time now with face down, but only as far as my breath holds out. What was the difficulty was getting my head up, breathe, put head back down.

I've seen people swimming without putting their heads into the water, not disturbing their hair-style (!!!) and I've NEVER understood how they do it.

What I'm aiming at is to do front paddle, head up, breathe, head back down, and do it without the woggle. Then, learn front crawl properly.

    Hi

I'm after some advice from any weight watchers dieters.

My friend is coming for dinner on Sunday and I've sorted the kids out but would like to cook her a tasty ww meal. I know I could buy one but I'd rather go that bit more and make it myself. I don't know how many points she would be allowed so I suppose a meal with not too many.

    Hoping someone could help me!

If it's any help I use mapometer to measure my distances. You can either set it to auto-follow roads or if you're going cross country switch to satellite/hybrid view and uncheck the follow roads box :).

    margaretclare Brilliant! :T

Hope it's going well everyone, have a fab weekend!

Lol, I know! I'm terrible for it! I get these overwhelming urges to buy big expensive things, no matter how impractical they are (I have nowhere to put a treadmill!!! Will figure it out later, lol). I've done it so many times... I bought a vintage cocktail bar last year just because it looked pretty, a car before I could drive (again, because it looked pretty!), a holiday abroad when I didn't have a passport, the list is endless - no wonder I'm in debt, lol!

Yes, definitely go for the hula hoop! It's supposed to be a really effective workout - and fun too! I've always wanted to learn how to do it but I can never get the hang of it.

Well I'm picking up the treadmill on sun so will start the challenge on the 3rd. I think I'm going to try for the double marathon, I'm not sure how much effort is involved as I have no idea how fast I jog, or even how long I can jog for, will know more on sun.

Fred, can you please put me on the women's team, and sign me up for the 5lb a month challenge again.

Ok - we'll do the marathon (or version of) for this months exercise. You don't have to run if you can't, or if a half marathon if too far let me know and you can do a quarter marathon.

As with the Everest challenge I'll log everyone's distance (and time if you wish).

If you want to take part please post below here, tell me if you're aiming for a quarter marathon, half marathon, 1 marathon or 2 marathons this month and if you want the time to be recorded.

I'll log the details in a table, tell you how far you've done, how far you've got to go, and the % complete (and if you post your time I'll tell you how long you've taken so far and how many fast).

I will be taking the measurement for 1 marathon as 26.22 miles.

Forgive me Martin :money:, for I have sinned...

    I just bought a treadmill.
Did I need it - not really.
Could I afford it - not really.

I knew it was coming, I've been eyeing them up for ages so it was just a matter of time before I cracked and bought one! To be fair, it was a bargain on eBay, there are just plenty of other things that I should be spending my money on this month.

Oh well, it's all in the name of weight loss! Well I'm up for any of the challenges we've thought of, have we settled on the marathon? (or double marathon!) as that seems to have the most interest?

I have one, and a very expensive one, don't regret it for a minute, it gets used quite a bit by me and the OH
