Yay! I'm a winner.... at something at least!
Interesting discussion re. the VLCD's. I have a friend who has done the usual WL plans like Slimming World, Rosemary Conley, Weight Watchers, and lost several stones on them, but she's also done Cambridge Diet, Lighter Life and Go Lower, which fall into the VLCD categories. She has lost between 6-8 stones on the latter 3 diets, however, she's always gained the weight back again, very quickly, and usually with a bit extra on top. The main issue with these diets seems to be that withdrawing from 'normal' food, and the responsibility of choosing your food doesn't necessarily do the job it's advertised to (in Lighter Life's claim that not eating normal food for 100 days takes away the issues of food abuse, and overeating, giving you a break from that stress). Unless the person fully addresses their own issues with food, or their reasons for over-eating, compulsively eating, binge-eating, emotional eating, then the chances are that controlling weight long term will remain nigh on impossible. My friend's experience was that she lost 6 stone in 100 days on Lighter Life, but had regained the weight, and then some 4 months later. As soon as she had to embark on eating normal food again, she was uncontrollable. The trigger was something as simple as her daughter's left-over christening cake, it really can be something that small.
I think what a lot of the long-term contributors to this thread have all tried to do over the years, is to attempt to address their issues with food once and for all. It can be a life-long battle, but becoming aware of our triggers foods, recognising times of emotional susceptibility to misuse food, etc., helps us to maintain a healthier weight, and lifestyle.
None of us are perfect, and we all try to find a way to battle our weight in the best way we can.
For me, I have grown to accept that there is simply no point in depriving myself of any food that I thoroughly enjoy, but finding a way to work it into a healthy eating plan that is adaptable enables me to eat well, and lose weight at the same time. I like to eat a healthy diet 90% of the time, and have 10% indulgence when I feel the need. Sometimes I can go weeks on end not needing to indulge, but when I do, I can do it completely guilt-free.
As with all diets, it's horses for courses. None of us are the same, and we all do different. One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

72 flights of stairs climbed today, which should take my total to date up to 6433' please :-)
(it also means that i'll need to do 41 flights every day for the rest of march in order to reach the summit, so no slacking!)0 -

Sorry I forgot about you sitting this today. Glad you made it and I'm glad it went well for you. When are you going to find out ?Princess_x wrote: »Feeling very unwell today, been puking non stop since yesterday night and feeling very faint/dizzy.
Oh dear hope you feel better soon ((hugs))
Have been to the dentist today and finally got my tooth sorted :j:j So means in the next few days I should be off the pain killers I have been taking for the past 3 weeks. But the dentist has cut my lip and I expect it will be an ulcer in the morning
Also had my Just Dance arrive for the wii so played this for over an hour this afternoon which means my steps have suffered instead. But will hope to get on the step machine tomorrow after work to get me back on track.

I do agree, specially with the last line of your post. I am however a firm believer in its not how you get to goal, whatever route you take, its what you do when youre there that counts. Thats what determines your sucess or failure, not the route you took.
Youll see from the first page on this thread 'my WW story' I lost very successfully on it and then gained almost all of it back on. (so Im not a newcomer to here honest :A) No reflection on WW that was 100% down to me. By the same token I know of many people who have done a VLCD and lost 9/10 stone and kept it off. Again thats not the diet thats down to them.
I think ultimately we're all here for the same reason, to help in our weight loss. I think its neither helpful nor supportive to slag off or dismiss another diet, because you dont like it. i think the main thing is to respect everyones choice of getting there... regardless of the way theyre doing it be it the fast track or the more conventional slower route the main thing is to be supportive and maybe go back to the basics, if you cant say something nice, dont say anything at all0 -
Chill pill time people? We're all doing our own thing. What may work for some may not work for others. VLCD didn't work for me, well it did, but then it just piles back on. For me it's all about reeducating myself and keeping off me beloved crisps
Well I knew I was in bad shape when I bought the Wii the other week for the bedroom and gave it a go. But it confirmed it when I bought my DS a Kinect for the xbox. I'm aching in places I didn't know existed. The wii is so easy in comparison, I'm off now to soak my weary muscles in the tub for an hour before bed. Feel like i've burned off about 10,000 calories tonight, altho in reality it's probably only a couple of hundred lol4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
Hi everyone!
I've just joined this forum as I've been browsing and thought it looked really helpful.
I have recently gone back onto SW although I'm not attending the classes as I cant afford it so I'm just following the diet and getting exercise.
I'm hoping to loose between a 1 stone and 1 stone and a half. Its been difficult though as the weights only been coming off 1lb a week, so now im tryin to up the amount of exercise I do, no matter how much I loathe it!
For exercise I use Davinas workout dvds which I think are great, although I sometimes find it hard to summon up the motivation to do it!Start Weight: 10st 8lbs
Target Weight: 9st 4lbs (ish)
Current Weight: 9st 13lbs 8oz
Total Lost: 8lbs 8oz :j0 -
I'll get the confession out of the way first! I ate a bag of mini eggs - must not buy any more. Did not feel too good this afternoon which is why I ended up with the munchies tonight which I haven't felt for ages
Now to the positive - I swam 32 lengths this morning, not sure I have ever swam as much before. Not Rachmaninov
But Nyman
