however eat to little and you go into starvation mode, or even worse like on those bloody dangerous VLCD diets a large portion of the weight loss comes from lean muscle mass which is disasterous and potentially fatal in the long term
Sorry I have to take serious umbrage at the 'bloody dangerous VLCD' comment you made. VLCDs are NOT dangerous if followed properly nor are they potentially fatal  Being seriously obese is a heck of a bigger threat to peoples health
Proper VLCDs, like Cambridge, Lighter Life, Lipotrim & Exante are a very effective and SAFE method of fast weight loss. For most of them you need your doctors approval and are supervised. To dismiss them this way is incredibly unfair and misleading0 -
Managed to eat a few grapes, and a burger. Estimate my cals today to be 450cals. I'm surprised i actually ate anything at all, as the idea of food was just repulsive. Can't eat anything else though, as I'm scared i might end up puking everything again.0

I've corrected it now :jFred out of curiosity is it % overall body weight lost in a week? Because the DIY team with their combined starting weight of 2910 (lbs?), minus what they lost in the first 2 weeks of the challenge, would have had to lose over 300 between them this week to get 12.7%?
Or am I understanding it wrong? (Wouldn't be the first time!)
The weekly % is that weeks loss divided by the challenge starting weight not the previous weeks team weight - but you've spotted an error in the formula - apologies I'll post a revised team chart shortly.
I've just rechecked the previous team challenges and the formulae are correct there so it's just this one that's gone awol0 -

Not sure about them being a safe method of weight loss as I don't think losing weight too quickly is that good. But I do know that Eric is right, VLCD's ARE potentially fatal (note potentially) as I do know that if you're not getting the right amount of nutrients, then the body starts to eat away at the muscle, and this is a serious health risk to the heart muscle. You may think you're doing well on the scale, but the number on the scale could be muscle loss, and what you want is fat loss. Obviously if done correctly, they could be successful, but I wouldn't say they're the safest method of losing weight.0 -

But thats my point if you just eat 500 cals a day then no its dangerous and could maybe be
The proper commercial VLCDs that I already mentioned are structured so that over the packs you have in the day you have ALL the nutrients/vitamins etc that you need. Your body doesnt eat muscle its not muscle loss. You go into ketosis and youre burning fat and losing weight in a totally safe way. You dont damage your muscle if you follow a proper VLCD and take all your packs.
They are absolutely safe, theyre medically approved. Doctors/the medical profession in general and NICE arent going to approve these diets if theyre dangerous
I dont mean to be rude but Im not sure that people critisciing them actually know the ins and outs of them0 -

HOW RUDE!!! A crutch for the desperate??? / Are you really that ignorant or deliberately contraversial?
You clearly know absolutely NOTHING about these diets to make an ignorant statement like that
You learn plenty on them I assure you. Theres a carefully restructured plan for when you get to goal. And as I already said you need to get medical approval to go on them and theye all NICE approved
You may not agree with them, or like them, or indeed approve of them but its very unfair to go around making sweeping statements and incorrect comments and to be so downright rude about them when it sounds like you dont actually know the ins an outs of them
Clearly this thread is no longer the friendly supportive one it was before0 -

Sorry i think you took my post in the wrong way.I know people that have been on VLCD's and have had great success. But personally, i just don't think it's that safe at all, and the risk is too great. True, obesity is too much of a health risk, but VLCD's are not the best way of getting rid of obesity healthily.
And i have read up on them, didn't think it was for me personally, as it's just not realistic for me to be on a very low cal diet with shakes etc.
Please don't think it's a personal attack on people doing VLCD's, I just don't think fast weight loss is healthy. I know anyone would want to lose 100lbs in 4-8 weeks, but I'd rather let my body do it the right way, ensuring that the fat stays off for longer. I know so many people who have been on VLCD's, have had successive fast weight loss, but when it comes to maintaining, they just pile it back on again with extra fat piled on top. I'm not saying this is the case for everyone on these plans, but that's just too much of a risk for me.
That's just my personal opinion. Sorry if you think it's a personal attack, it really isn't.0 -
Here's the revised team chart - and the rightful winners of this week and last week are the Slimming World team.0

No thats fair comments, and at least youve actually looked into them
I did WW a few years ago as I said in earlier posts but to be honest the fact I put so much weight on (and that was after losing it in a slow and sure way) again I knew I needed something that was going to get me to goal quicker for the sake of my health. I honestly couldnt have gone on the way I was.
My doctor has given me absolute approval for it and I go see her regularly (by choice not because I have to)
I know theyre not for everyone but they do work very well for a lot of people and I do plan to go back to WW once Ive lost more weight as its not the most fun in the world sticking to shakes and bars lol
Oh, and hope youre feeling better soonDont stress about eating when youre poorly getting better is the main thing
