They all do this nowadays. They just want to get you in an office to pressurise you and hard sell you something.Hi there,
... go in to their branch to 'review my account', which i read as them having an opportunity to try and sell me accounts/services i dont need!
It's unlikely to be a coincidence. Sounds like a particularly spiteful jobsworth. File a complaint. My question is is this a usual thing or is it because i upset the woman who rang me somehow?
And tell them that you intend to do so.Olipro wrote:Either way, the ombudsman will automatically cost them a few hundred quid, so do be sure you intend to bring it before them."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0

My post was actually replying to techspec
If I'm correct, your HSBC account is still open and HSBC haven't told you they are closing it..
However, even if any bank was to decide (for whatever reason) they didn't want you as a customer then they are entitled to do so without telling you why - in fact under certain circumstances they are legally not allowed to tell you why.
Your score may actually not be that great because you don't hold any credit products.. you don't get a credit score of 100% just like that - though you may indeed have a good credit record

Yea im with HSBC they havent made any threats yet to 'CLOSE IT' but serious if they do i will raise hell i wont simply walk away, i see my self as a good customer to them. i put money in the hsbc account now and then so what more do they want from me? ..ummmm

Unfortunately, until you've actually had credit, you've never built up a record of repaying it on time. This is what increases your credit score. Indeed, getting your first credit can be difficult for this very reason.0

It's usually considered normal (and sane) to lol when someone else has said something that's funny, not when you yourself have said something inane.0

Having just done a marathon read through of this thread from the beginning I am surprised that nobody seems to have pointed out what, in my view, is likely to be the most obvious reason for what happened to the OP:
Banks charge a lot more for business accounts than they do for personal accounts. Many people think they can run a business through their personal accounts - and I'm sure there can be some very grey areas. For example an eBayer who becomes a gradually more successful seller and is soon running a nice little earner as a sideline would never think they are "running a business" through their personal account - but they are. So when the banks see an account that has a very large number of small transactions, large PayPal credits etc. etc., they would have their suspicions.
The banks first approach would be to invite the account holder for a face to face "review". If the account holder declines, and laughs at them, they take a closer look. Then on reflection decide that 10 credit transactions a day is definately not normal personal account activity, and if the account holder doesn't want to discuss it, they decide to just close his accounts.
When the account holder demands to know why, and is presented with the obvious evidence that they were running a business using a personal bank account, they go very sheepish and stop telling their mates and the MSE Banking Forum they've been very hard done by the nasty old bank.
I may be completely wrong, but the OP last posted the day before he was invited to go in and speak to them about the matter. And was never heard from again.......
.....It could be that when he got there they "whacked" him triad style (on direct instruction of the CEO - from Hong Kong) and he's now in a chest freezer in their vault.
But I could be wrong Optimists see a glass half full Optimists see a glass half full
Pessimists see a glass half empty
Engineers just see a glass twice the size it needed to be 0 0
