Yes please. Just found this thread. Loved it. Hope you show'd 'em who's boss OP.

As for the "call centre staff are only doing their job"... if you cold call trying to sell new products, and that's what these types of reviews usually are, don't expect a "warm" response every time, if your service and your products are better than your competitors we will come to you, no need to call to tap that "potential". :rotfl:

I find it interesting that anyone would talk to someone who was a stranger, ringing you up and claiming to be from your bank. I've had a number of these calls over the years, and I always refuse to speak to them, saying that I have no idea who they are, have no intention of discussing my account or banking needs with a stranger, and unless they can give me a geographic number for their main switchboard, plus an extension and the department that they are from, they would need to write to me about whatever they want to talk to me about instead.

With one or two exceptions, they have never given me their department or a number I can call them back on.
  • I wouldn't call them on a number they gave me either.
  • Never knew these bankers (or change the b for a w) were so sensitive!!!
  • Im also cautious when someone calls me claiming they are from the bank, but there is no need for rudeness.

    'Im bumping this'

HSBC called me few days ago for a 'review' to be honest its b0llocks... all you gotta do is 'LIE' let them hear what they wanna hear and ya account will be fine... but these days.. i know the number and sometimes they call me with-held!?.. i never pick up the phone now.. far to busy, and so far never had any letter from them saying my account is gonna get closed etc

(if it does... i will raise hell)

i always slap £20 even £40 in there now and then just to shut them up. (we'll see tho)

they simply cant close the account if ya using ya debit card in stores and online etc like paypal and so on with direct debits WITHOUT A GOOD VALID reason.

Hi, what id like to do (i know some will say 'what's the point?') is to write to somebody high up at Hsbc and explain the situation.

Some may also say 'what's the point as they never get to read them' but i've just had a dispute with Orange and a dispute for a friend with Admiral insurance and after writing recorded delivery letters to the CEO, Chairman etc etc, i've had the results i really really wanted.

Could anyone please give me any names and addresses (HSBC ones) of any relevant people at HSBC please?

The CEO is Brian Robertson - he can be emailed at managingdirectoruk@hsbc.com

I agree HSBC are not going to close your account just because you do not want a review if the account is in good working order. I have been a customer of HSBC for years and never had any problems with them.

Once again the subtle distinction between can't and wouldn't has to be explained on the forums. Yes they can. They, and any other bank, can close your account for any particular reason or no reason at all. They do not have to do business with someone they do not wish to, much as you have the same right to close your account abruptly and leave too. However, they wouldn't. Most common reasons for a bank closing a customer's account are fraud, bad debt or abusive/violent behaviour by the customer towards the bank's staff.

In the OP of this thread's case I'd surmise that something else was going on, perhaps independent from what happened.
