Has anyone else got really worried about the 20 week anomaly scan? We had a 16.5 week scan a few weeks ago (20 weeks today, scan's tomorrow). Everything when we had the sexing scan (private one) was fine. They checked her out then, checked spine, head, heart etc and said all was perfect for her size. I'm just worried that something's going to show up tomorrow.

I think I may be verging on neurotic, but she's very much wanted aND we had a miscarriage last Dec I think that's what makes me worry at every oppertunity!

It's normal to worry - at every point! At our 20 week scan the baby was in an awkward position & so had to go back for a 23 week scan to check heart & face. All was fine, but I wanted to walk out from the scan with perfect news & I didn't. Don't want to worry you more about it but just wanted you to know that they do have a list of things to tick off at the 20 week scan & they make sure they do!

Thanks TTC, I think when we went for the sexing scan we had I got a bit worried as the sonographer said I'll just have to go get my boss. I think my heart stopped at that point. It turns out when the boss came to talk to us it was because baby had her legs crossed, I had to walk for twenty mins and drink coke (full fat, sugary teeth!) but it scared me witless for those 5 mins waiting for him to tell us! So i think I'm possibly just a bit jumpy now too.

Ooo I'm jealous of the size 6's and 8's, I will never be that tiny!

I had a nice day off work for my b'day yesterday, glorious sunshine, started the day by going to dentist, was supposed to be for a check up but a filling fell out the night before, I'll get it fixed another time!

Then got nails done and met 2 girls for lunch, told 1 I'm pg but she's been asking me since I was 6 weeks so she knew really!

Saw obstetrician today, I'm consultant led because of fibroid, I had an unexpected scan which was a bonus, really didn't know that would happen, was so happy to see baby sucking thumb! The printer wasn't working so couldn't get a print out tho :( Hubby wasn't with me but when I told him I had a scan he asked me if I knew the gender, I'll wait for 20 week scan to ask! Hopefully he can come with me to that one.

I'm at work now, do I tell them I'm pg?? I'm so torn!

Jem - my OH and I found the 20w scan very sobering, everything was fine but we were listening to every word the sonographer said to make sure our little girl was ok. We already had the sexing scan as well, so the excitement of knowing was gone. I felt this was the best way to go to that scan tbh.

  • Thanks for everyone who answered about the consultant. Think I'm freaking out now, as it sounds like they're expecting complications, eeek! I don't think consultant led unit sounds anywhere near as welcoming as midwife led unit.

Squirrel, don't panic about the consultant they're just taking the best care of you that they can. It's also possible to be consultant led and still end up in a MLU.

Hi Squirrel, I have my first consultant meeting on Tuesday and will let you know how it goes. I've been told they we'll basically discuss what options I'll be allowed during the birth. Different circumstances than yours but surely the meetings can't be that different.
