Hi pookie nice to see you here
sparkle your diet is much better than mine. A typical day for me is:
Breakfast: Weetabix
Snack: tea and biscuits
Lunch: Sandwich, crisps & chocolate
Afternoon Snack: tea and bicuits
Tea: Spag bol. shepherds pie etc
before bed: crumpets/cereal
I literally cannot stop eating at the moment and am letting myself have what I fancy - I figure Im going to put weight on anyway and baby will be getting some yummy goodness. Tbh I think I would be starving only eating soup and bread at lunch time - I seem to be ravenous. When we had a microwave in work I used to make extra portions at tea time and take it to work the next day. Or you could make things like chicken tikka at home and use that as sandwich filling?
These snacks are easy to make and v cheap http://www.cheap-family-recipes.org.uk/recipes-snacks.html - I've tried quite a few of them so far.
Why can't you eat cheese and seafood? I know you're not meant to eat mouldy cheeses or raw seafood but the rest is ok isn't it?:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -
Hi Apricot,
I know what you mean - I don't always eat great food but most times I try to. Just now however as a snack have had some nice thick cut cheese and chive crisps - yum yum.
I do eat seafood but only when piping hot, or fried like calamari, so cold fillings are out and I don't trust shop bought for lunches... cheese wise I really like blue cheese / brie etc so don't like to overfill on cheddar etc. Must get some Philadelphia...
I will check out those snacks, might give me some inspiration!:):)

Hi ladies,
Have been having the odd worry panic moment thinking - 'oh-mi-god-how-will-I-handle-being-a-parent-and-how-are-we-going-to-afford-everything-for-18-years'! I guess the novelty of early pregnancy gives way to reality at some point... but then I look at my scan pic and feel amazed all over again that no matter what I am doing, no matter what I am in the middle of, the little one is with me all the time and it's incredible.
How is everyone else feeling at this stage?:):)

Hi ladies, I've not been able to post for a while, computer probs  but ive been able to read the thread.
Sparkle- I know what you mean about the mini panics! If I think about anything too much, il start worrying.. how we'll cope with drop in pay, the fact that we will have a whole new person dependant on us, and also that fact that theres a little one growing inside of me and I have no real control over any probs that it might encounter whilst in there..I could go on! But.. Im loving being pregnant, sooo excited about meeting our baby and being a mom, I try not to think too much about things and just go with the flow
Has anyone else had any mood swings??! I have been evil this week end! :rotfl:Living as simply as we can

Hi all,
I know Pookie, I guess it's that we have to take each day as it comes - on my more philosophical days I see it a bit like a mortgage - you enjoy living in and making a home, paying the mortgage each month but that's it. If you thought every day about the whopping thousands and thousands you owe it would drive you insane... so I won't think about the total figures the media put together about raising a child, I'll just think of how much I want to meet them!
Moods have been ok, though was watching a dvd last night and because I was finishing texting a friend and not eating my ice cream, hubby decided it would be 'funny' to take my ice cream bowl and make out like he was eating it. Totall irrational to react I know but I was actually angry! Felt silly afterwards and ate my ice cream, but was surprised (and ashamed) at how angry I felt inside... I don't think he will do it again!
This weekend we will look at travel systems and also car seats in case we buy separate, I am so confused though as it seems all car seats don't fit all cars. Wanted to get something 2nd hand off ebay, but with this added worry, will have to see what fits a Renault Clio first, not sure where... *if* we keep the Clio! So it's a catch 22...:):)

Hi Sparkle
It is best not to buy a 2nd hand car seat unless you know for sure it has never been in an accident as that could seriously reduce the safety of the seat.
If you buy the basic old style car seats it will fit any car (you belt them in) but some of the newer cars have Isofix now.
Wherever you buy your car seat can advise you on what's what - I think Halfords are pretty good x0 -
sparkle it's not advised to use a second hand car seat in case a) it's been in an accident and the seller hasn't declared it or b) it's been stored somewhere which caused the plastic to warp/become brittle meaning it's not safe (extreme temperatures like a shed) this is quite a good site. Im not saying don't get a second hand one as mine has come from my friend but she doesn't have a car, seat was used 6/7 times and stored in her bedroom so I am comfortable that it's quite safe to use.

Hi Sequeena good to see ya!
Thanks guys I was having baby brain then, as I had read car seats should be new, I meant the pram etc as we do plan to get car seat new, I am just confused as to the travel system 'car bit' - would we not use that if we buy a car seat separately / ie: is it cheaper if we don't get a travel system / 3-in-1?
Carseat wise from the site link Apricot gave it looks like a rear facing seat is recommended for the first 9/12 months, so I guess we'll have to buy one now and then fork out again, and not be able to sell the first one because it's 2nd hand - grr...
Back has been quite sore plus had filling treatments today so am numb and can;t even enjoy my lunch... might get a mini hot water bottle from ebay to use at work as it may help...:):)

It is probably best for you to have a think about what your travel needs are - a 3 in 1 may not be that useful for you.
Cost wise it will really vary by which push chair you want to buy.
I brought the Mamas and papas Sola pushchair this time which lies flat and baby can face forward or backwards and is a lightweight pushchair with adjustable handle (this was requirement for me as I'm quite short! - lol!)
I also brought the car seat and the adjusters to make it in to a travel system but I needed a car seat anyway.
It's really best to shop around and also go and push a few before deciding which might be best for you0
