do i still need a midwife appointment at the same time anyway?
i may as well get it done if i have to go see her anyway

Most people have an appointment with the midwife at 16 weeks anyway.

We aren't offered that particular blood test here (it used to be offered) - but now we are offered a nuchal scan and blood test between 11 - 13 weeks.

Did your midwife give you any info on screening tests? - you should have had some at your booking in appointment so you know what to expect and can make a decision on whether it is for you x

Mine is being done at the hospital, my 16 week midwife appointment will be separate. Im not sure whether this varies from place to place - I was asked at my booking in appointment whether I wanted it and then an appointment was sent out to me in the post.

    Hi all,
Apricot - finally told work on Friday and it was fine, my boss has a little girl and he's very happy I'm expecting, of course we'll need to plan ahead for training etc but all good. I will catch up on the other thread today to see what flower responded to you - have a few days to catch up on on there.
Hmmm just had a peek at belly button, don't notice any shrinkage yet but then I do have a small inny anyway :rotfl:I can see belly is starting to appear slowly though, feels harder and more taut. Must get the chunk of shea butter I have out and melt it into a pot for tummy and b*obs - money saving and natural with no added anything :)

Anderson, glad it's all booked for you - I think they know we're inexperienced in these things so they do it all, which is good for me as it seems to be happening automatically. I have an appointment with a specialist this week that they arranged, plus then with local midwife next week, then that's it until 11th March for 20 week scan.

Galvaniser - same here though I got a nuchal scan and blood test done at my 1st scan though. Nuchal results came back in the post (always good as they phone you if the news is bad). Our result was 1 in 8000 odd, and said I am low risk which is good as I was worried my age would be an issue.

Are you guys finding out what the sex is on your 20 week scans? I think we will, makes it easier to moneysave - I am a romantic at heart but closely followed by an MSER :D

On Freecycle yesterday we got a bunch of bits - so far this is what we've been able to get on there overall:

    - One wooden cot, one side drops down so it can be near bed, just needs new mattress.
    - 3 baby name books
    - One baby bath
    - Two baby bouncers, one is Fisher Price with some dangling toys and has a button to vibrate, and the other bouncer is a lighter one with aluminium frame.
    - Bag of boys clothes, about 30 items, some of which are neutral which we can use if it's a girl. Some of the items are Benetton, Next, M&S so very happy with those especially if we have a little boy.

I guess the bouncer is to be used in the day?

Anyway today we might have a look at some baby clothes in town to get an idea of prices and where we'll be visiting should the need arise, will try to only buy 1 item if I get tempted, which I will :p

Well done on telling your boss sparkle - I was going to tell on Friday but boss didn't come back to the office. Will have to do it Monday as I will need time off a week Friday for my triple test.

Im finding out the sex at my 20 week scan - can't wait. I've bought a few white vests & babygros already but there isn't that much choice so I would prefer to be able to buy things in the relevant colour. Asda baby clothes are very cheap and feel nice quality - £2 for 3 vests, £4 for 3 babygros.

    Hi all,
Apricot good luck for today - it will be fine, it's not a bad thing they will just have to accept it and plan ahead. But I know the actual feeling before you say anything is nerve wrecking.

Yes we're thinking of finding out the sex then too - has anyone got any gut feel of what they're having? I felt it was a girl for the longest time and have had no morning sickness fortunately, but the Chinese prediction thingy's online say it's a boy based on my last period date and my birthday... thought the sex was predetermined by the male, so what's it got to do with me!

Had a peek at some bits in Mothercare and also want to get to Asda to check what they have, if it's a girl we'll def need to get stuff and start hinting at family... almost feels bad luck though looking at stuff now, wondering if I should wait til 20 week scan...

I think it's a girl but everyone else thinks a boy. I know OH would love a boy and tbh Im not too bothered either way (although some pink sleepsuits may have fallen into my next basket earlier - I can always Ebay them if it's a boy!) I found it difficult to buy things - but once I bought one or two things I can't stop! I have 127 size 1 nappies now - I think that's enough and am going to keep stocking up on wipes each time I go shopping.

Don't forget it's the last day to print off the voucher for free Huggies pack from Asda today.

    Hi Sparkle
Not sure about gut feeling but this pregnancy of mine is more similar to that of DD than DS (I have one of each already) so for that reason I suspect a girl.
My 20 week scan is in 2 weeks so will try and find out if possible (I knew the sex beforehand with my other 2 and found it really handy and good for bonding)

I've already brought my pushchair and some feeding stuff but will leave it there for now.
I am getting nervous about 20 week scan but trying to keep myself pre-occupied and forget about it - bit tricky as baby is really kicking me hard in the bladder at the momen but I suppose although uncomfortable it is reassuring ;)
