I have friends where the man wanted to find out the sex but his partner didn't. So they agreed that the sonographer would tell him and he'd keep it a secret from her. He managed to do this for the remainder of the pregnancy. Not sure I could do that myself, I'm sure I'd buy something pink/blue and give it away. I'm not very good at keeping secrets. It's really important that I keep information confidential in my line of work, so I think I make up for lost time in my personal life and blurt everything out!

We couldn't do that, if one of us knew we'd definitely let it slip!

We found out the gender last time but didn't tell anyone - it drove my mum and our friends mad! We're definitely going to find out this time if we can (and if all is OK etc), but might end up telling people. For some reason, because it's two it seems a bigger secret to keep :)

All the comments about my size and what I eat at work are starting to get to me! I guess I'm not used to people looking at my mid section and commenting on it's size or lack of. Trying to develop a thicker skin about it. I'm sure no one means any harm and it's probably a case of they have nothing better to say...

I think I'll enjoy it when I look clearly pregnant though, rather than "is she just fat?"

We found out the sex. Now I can knit in appropriate colours and buy some pink clothes.

I always think its odd when people ask if it was planned. Bit of an uncomfortable question! Managed to stay pregnant free for 10 years so if I'd wanted to stay that way I'd have just carried on doing what I'd been doing...

Omg I know what you mean about the "was it planned" question! I'm 27, just got a new job, I commute 2hrs to work and 2hrs back, we have just gutted our house which we spent all our savings buying and took a lodger in November. So no. It wasn't planned.

Then you get the look of "but accidents don't happen"! Indeed they don't but knowone bar my close friends need to know that I forgot a few pills and still baby danced... Do they? Seems they do. So many people look at you like you're a teenage delinquent when you say the baby isn't planned! (Or I guess it was as we knew the risk ;))

Today I've mostly been clutching walls and hoping my hips start working again, as I've had so much time off work that more time off will not go down well :( but equally I can't sleep or walk without something to grip when I move!

On a good note - tesco have 3 for 2 on their baby bedding, Moses basket sheets are £5, cot bedding is £7 and we got some plastic bedding for £7 too. Also all the Lamaze toys and loads of other toys. My OH wouldn't let me buy toys - apparently friends/family will buy those but I can't rely on people buying them and I know if i put cash aside I will spend it :(

On a good note, boy or girl we are having a blue wall - it's quite girly blue and will suit either blue or pink bedding etc when baby gets here.

Sorry mammouth post - I hope wveryone is well! Good luck for any scans coming up :) we booked our 3d/4d one - my mums treat for us in June (at 30wks).

  • We want to find out the sex, can't wait to start shopping! Scan meant to be week on Wed, but came home to an answering machine message from the appointment office at the hospital asking me to call them, so don't know if they want to change it or what, they were closed by time I got home. Hoping not, as DH had to beg and plead to get the day off work. Will have to give them a call first thing.

As we seems to have some HR experts about, can I ask a quick question? I'm on a one year fixed term contract, due to expire end of July, so about 6 weeks before my due date. Currently contracted 26 hours a week. Work want to put me on a permanent zero hours contract from Aug onwards, and get someone else to do my 26 hours on another year long fixed term contract. Can they do this? I want to stay on the same number of hours but been told no, take the zero hours contract or leave.

We can't wait to find out however...last time they told us we were having a boy so got rid of most of our daughters things and bought a new navy car seat, clothes galore, blue bedding etc.....and out popped a little girl! Had to quickly think of a name too as 'Joshua' is not unisex lol. We will be paying for a 4D scan for confirmation this time - cheaper than a useless bundle of wrong-sex clothes etc! :-)

AFAIK as your contract ends, they don't have to offer you anything if the job is a year contract. But I'd ring ACAS and check.

If you leave, you'd get Maternity Allowance, if you take the zero hours then you'd SMP I believe, so you'd get the same money either way for now, it's just after that would obviously be affected.
  • Thanks for the advice an9i. I got my hr maternity pack that says I can carry one week over and also that maternity leave starts straightaway if baby comes at 29 weeks. I'm taking most of my annual leave before 29 weeks so thats 22days in 16 weeks! I'll have a week left then so it depends how pettty work gets or if l get the chance to take that last week off .

    congrats on the twins Betty!
