    I've been Money Tipped!
Hi everyone, I've been a bit quiet as for some reason worry has set in.

I have no reason to be worried, but just am. I'm 18+5 and ever since my 16 week midwife appt and hearing the heart beat I'm desperate for another form of confirmation that all is okay.

I haven't felt baby move yet and I hate the feeling of limbo, with not feeling any movement yet, not being able to listen to the heart beat again and having to wait until the 8th May for our next scan is proving horrible. It just seems forever between appts to make me feel at ease, sounds silly I know.

I was tempted to get a fetal doppler but all the reviews at like argos etc said they were a waste of money.

It took me ages to feel movements. Realistically I think it was about 20 wk scan (if not positive they were movements until after that). Don't worry, your baby is designed to want to grow and be healthy.
I never did get a doppler as I know I would panic if I couldn't find anything one day, but it's up to you.

    Hey bump buddy!
Glad you're ok, thanks for remembering about my scan, bubba still wasn't playing and hid from us so they couldn't get clear images to complete their checks, however they didnt want us to come back again so just have to wait til his or her birthday to see bubba again. Surprisingly im very relaxed about it all now and really starting to get excited about meeting this little one.

I'll be seeing you over on the next board, ill be 24 weeks tomorrow xx

Hello there - I feel the same. I hate the feeling of limbo between 12-20 weeks. I keep thinking I feel movement, then convincing myself it's probably wind. I'm also winding myself up as I'm having twins and it's in the back of my mind that just because (if) I feel one move it doesn't mean the other is OK :(. (Which is the other reason I'm not getting a doppler, as I don't think it would give me that kind of reassurance!).

Honestly, I want to give myself a slap...

I've been feeling something down there for a couple of weeks but haven't known whether its wind or not. Then last night when I felt it kept my hand on my tummy and felt a little nudge on my hand. Pretty sure that's baby as don't think wind has ever done that before! I think feeling movement can depend on where the placenta is, if its at the front it can take a while to feel anything apparently,

SB will you get more scans with you having twins?

In the earlier weeks dopplers can be a bit of a worry as it can be difficult to find hb, but in the second trimester I find them reassuring.

rumfeeble and lao_cat congrats on reaching 24 weeks :)

it's tempting to get a doppler but it's probably not a good idea for me as I'm a worrier too and would be constantly using it! If you have a placenta in an odd position then it's harder to find baby's heartbeat too.

I'm quite enjoying my second trimester because I think when I reach the third trimester I'll be much more restricted in what I can and can't do in terms of exercise and dancing.

Hope you don't mind me joining you, I'm 13+1 today :) me & Dh are really excited, it's our first baby and we've wanting a family for a while :) still got morning sickness (well random times throughout the day sickness lol), and feeling tired. Had a few scans so far (one early private one), and 2 nhs ones - midwife ignored us when we said we knew when I'd ovulated and worked from my period date, which meant baby was 1mm too small for the NT measurement to be done, so had another scan a week later which was nice to see them again :) can't wait now to find out whether baby is a girl or boy :)

My work has a standard practice of not letting us carry over leave, im saving the rest of my days to put at the start of my maternity leave so I can finish a bit earlier than I probably would otherwise.

    DD is 2nd November :)

  • welcome lozza

I think that if I go off sick in the last 4 weeks before my due date then maternity leave kicks in straight away - then I would lose my annual leave. So no point saving it for the last few weeks. Do you think I should use up my annual leave whilst I have a chance to move around a bit more and enjoy it or leave some of it for the last trimester?

Depends on you - I'm wanting to finish perhaps at least 6 weeks before (with 3 weeks of that being leave), as I work full time with a 2 hour commute everyday, plus depending on my shifts some weeks I'd be travelling back after 10pm at night, which I really don't want to do anywhere near my due date. If I wasn't saving my leave I'd feel like I couldn't finish as early without it 'wasting' my maternity leave. Everyone will be different though :)

  • I was originally planning on having 9 months maternity but I think I'll take a full year now because of feeling like I have to take my annual leave early or risk losing it. 3 months unpaid might not be too bad.

how's the 2 hour commute now Lozza? I'd be fast asleep on the commute!
