Congrats on team pink angi - I'm really looking forward to having a girl
Crap about your work. Does sound a bit dodgy, but is the stress of trying to take action against your employer worth the stress it may cause you?Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -

Yeah for team pink! Although I now have two years of boy's clothes from my son which will go to waste (well I'm sure I can pass them on but you know what I mean)
No, the stress of doing nothing and letting them get away with it will be worse than the stress of taking action. I think they are planning to make me redundant anyway so I don't have to worry about burning bridges. I work in HR anyway so am pretty clued up on the law, and would quite enjoy the challenge of taking them on. I will never have this much employment protection again (due to having both a pregnancy and an illness that can be classed as a disability) so will have no hesitation in using it!0 -
I'm the same with the clothes..bags full of boys stuff and 2 nephews with hand-me-downs galore!
Good luck with appealing. Good that you work in HR and have a good knowledge of employment law.Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -

Absolutely - employers doing this makes my blood boil! Do they not realise that in these circumstances you're protected by law? Although you know the rules, it might be worth talking to a discrimination charity (maternity action springs to mind) so that you can get help writing a strongly worded letter or something at the beginning, to see if that scares them off.
Good luck with it all - and try not to let it get to you if you can.:)0 -
Thanks, I already spoke to Maternity Action, they put me through to a solicitor so I got some free legal advice and she said it was definitely discriminatory which I kind of knew anyway but was good to get a professional opinion. What galls me is that working in HR my bosses really should know better, but it seems they think the rules don't apply when it's their own staff. Anyway, meeting boss later so will see if I can get some sense out of him. My colleague is disgusted by it all and agreed to support me if I go formal, so it's good to know I have an ally at work should it get to that stage.0

Hi everyone, thought I'd come and join you over here now that I'm 13 weeks. It only feels like 5 minutes since we found out we're expecting, I'm hoping that the next few months will fly by just as quickly!
Hope everyone is well0 -
Haven't posted this week as not much to report.
Got a 50% off glasses from Boots Parenting Club, so ordered some new glasses. £115 instead of £230 so pleased with that.
Still got on/off nausea. Went out last night & felt like I had a hangover all morning today. Bit rubbish when I had 2 J2Os & an Appletise!
Have 'announced' this week to friends & colleagues, there hasn't been one person who wasn't anything but 'gobsmacked'. It's amazing how many people feel it's OK to ask if it was planned - if only they knew the 'planning' that went into it!
an9i77 - just because they should know better, doesn't mean they do the right thing. Hope it can be resolved without stress.
Enjoy the weekend everyone.

an9i77 If it doesn't get sorted do take it further you could really screw them and rightly so. Maternity is the one big thing you don't want to discriminated against as it is the easiest one to prove.
My work are being really lovely about it, despite it is my 3rd maternity in a row (although this time I will go back for 2 months)Overdraft = £1000 Emergency fund = £2500
Competition wins 2015 = £1400:ANathan Henry & Lincoln Marcus born 19th October 2011 :ANaomi Lily born 28th August 2012
Lachlan Georg born 4th October 2013
Rowena Hazel born 5th October 2015

Thanks everyone. I spoke to my boss today and he's as much in the dark as I am (and I believe him). He thinks they may be trying to restructure and get rid of him too. He's going to email the big boss to see what's going on as he didn't even realise this other person had been given my maternity cover (which is bizzare as he's my boss, and therefore the boss of whoever covers my mat leave).
He's said I can have my job back until I go on mat leave - the question is what happens after but I'll take legal action if they set a foot wrong. As my department deals with this sort of thing all the time as HR department for the company it's more than hypocritical so I'd quite like to see them in court if it comes to it. Even though I don't want to lose my job, I'm beginning to think now that I'm better off not working in such a company.0 -
TTC40 when did you sign up to the boots parenting club? Did you get a letter or anything confirming it? I only ask as I sent my form off two weeks ago but haven't heard anything. Cheers.0
