  • Big hugs B2B for the UTI - horrid things, especially when you're pregnant and need to pee all the time anyway. I hope the doctor can sort you out pronto and hospital is not too bad.

I still don't have an appointment to see the consultant which I'm a little worried about, I think the rubbish midwife I saw didn't actually refer me because she didn't think the pregnancy would continue. I have a zillion and one questions and would just like to know where to start with them. I'd also quite like to speak to the consultant before we start telling people as I know there will be lots of questions to answer from MIL and she makes me feel stupid when I don't know.

My tastes have definitely changed too - gone off red meat and chocolate completely :-( and eat loads of things I wouldn't have touched before - loads of cereal and milk and could eat a jar of peanut butter a day if I let myself!

14 weeks tomorrow and my jeans are too uncomfy now, I tried on some maternity ones at the weekend though and just looked daft as I don't have a bump to put in them - what have you ladies done for the inbetween-y stage?

Hi Bride2be. I sort of started a new job when I was pregnant, I joined as a temp and a permanent position became available. I found out I was pregnant the day before they spoke to me to find out if I wanted to apply for the permanent posiiton. I just kept quiet until I'd got my contract and the ink was dry, then I had to tell them as due to my diabetes I needed a lot of antenatal appointments. As I'd been working there as a temp I just scraped maternity pay as my service as a temp was taken into consideration. I thought my boss would hate me for going for the permanent job knowing I was pregnant, but he was really cool about it and didn't seem to mind. I think it helped that his wife had just had a baby herself, so maybe that made him more understanding.

I'm really struggling with clothes for this in-betweeny stage, lemonmelon. Luckily I don't need to dress smartly for work. I have been relying on leggings (not maternity ones yet) and long cardigans/jumpers. Otherwise I've been wearing long tops with jeans and done the hairband trick to do them up. Blimmin uncomfortable tho!! Looking forward to having a proper bump and getting some real maternity bits!
And hopefully by summer I'll have a nice bump and be able to wear floaty dresses and skirts!

This morning I've bought myself 2 pregnancy books, as I like to read in bed and the Internet, though full of info, is not quite so relaxing of an evening - The best friend's guide to pregnancy (looked funny!) and the day by day pregnancy book, which looks quite thorough and apparently includes a breakdown of labour stages, etc.
  • Today has just been a full on "I'm pregnant" day. Woman at the barriers for the ladies at Charing Cross station took pity on me (as she saw me running down the stairs) and opened the gate to let me through for free. I then spend the next ten minutes getting friendly with the toilet bowl and the five after that splashing water on my face.

Then, I get to work to find a 'risk assessment' form on my desk because apparently insurance wise I'm now a health and safety risk. On the plus side, I am now entitled to a spare laptop to keep at home while I'm pregnant to save me lugging mine back and forth - hurrah!

Finally I've had to explain to various people *why* I can't meet them on site today and that I'll be sending one of my colleagues. Oh joy. I wouldn't have wanted to go anyway because it means a 45 minute tube journey each way and I could barely manage the train this morning.

Fortunately that good days outweigh the bad by FAR!!

  • I have my 22 week scan tomorrow. I'm both excited and scared..I hope everything is ok.

My anxiety dreams have returned with avengance recently. Last night I dreamt I was smoking a huge spliff and asking people around me if it was ok and would it harm the baby!!!

Mind you that's nothing compared to some of the grizzly dreams I've had of late :( I think my anxiety really surfaces when I'm asleep.
Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,
You don't even take him seriously,
How am I going to get to heaven?,
When I'm just balanced so precariously..

Yes, I'm still have trouble sleeping, though it doesn't help that DH gets up between 3 and 4 every morning for work!

Speaking of work, has anyone applied/started a new job while pregnant? I've been in my current position for almost 9 months, contract expires end of July, bump due mid Sept. work aren't renewing my contract, TBH I'm not that fussed, it's a job rather than a career, money is rubbish etc, they've been trying to say I'm not entitled to SMP when I am, not happy there and so on.

Anyway..I'm still on the books for a recruitment agency from when I was made redundant last spring, and got a call this morning asking if they can put my CV forward for two positions, both in my career field and both on much better money. How do I handle an interview if I get it? Do I tell them I'm pregnant?(currently 17+4, hardly showing at all and if interviewed in the next wee while, could prob hide it quite easily). DH and I have discussed child care etc, and he would give up work (he works 60+ hours a week for the same money I would earn 4/5 days 9-5 in these positions). It's just how do i explain to a potential employer that yes, I am pregnant, but I really want this job!

Me! Got a new job (same employer, different sector) in October and still haven't got a start date due to HR issues! But I still plan to start the job once I get a start date, it's a job I want and a job I plan on returning to after mat leave. The way I see it is me being pregnant wouldn't affect my husband starting a new job, so why should it stop me because I am a woman and have to carry the baby!

AFAIK you don't have to mention the pregnancy, but you have to let your employer know when you plan on taking maternity from 24 weeks I think.

I got some linen trousers at M&S with a stretchy back. Didn't fancy leggings as I don't like my legs so they were a good little find. I've also bought maternity jeans but in a size below what I normally wear so my belly kind of does fit in the panel (although I have to keep pulling them up) so i generally roll the panel bit down...so the jeans are still like pull on jeans. I got Verbaudet's straight leg maternity jeans and they are perfect a size too small for this stage!

I also have a skater skirt from Topshop and some peg leg pants from H&M that have stretchy waistbands.

Has everyone swapped to a wireless bra though? I just can't bear wireless. I have 34F boobs and wireless won't cut it! I think I'm going to ignore the advise!

What usually happens at a 16 week check up? Just had mine and it was blood pressure, a failed blood test ( have to go to path lab as midwife is terrible at taking blood ) and see you later...done in 5 mins! I was expecting more to be honest. Work colleagues tell me they had the baby's heartbeat listened to so I was all excited about it!

To be honest...my midwife has made me crabby. I didn't wee in a bottle she didn't provide me with and didn't tell me about so I'm always getting reprimanded for not doing this or that or having veins that she can get blood from (no one else struggles!)She is truly lovely but I think I would have continued to survive without having to leave work so early for the sake of 5 minutes with her!

    I'm such a git and yet I can't help myself!:o

In my are they book the consultants appointment for when you have the 20 week scan. Some midwives are useless. I'd give your community midwife team a ring and ask when you will see the consultant.

Ooooh wireless bras... I'm a 36G at the moment (usyally a 36E) and I tried maternity bras... My god I looked awful and my clothes looked worse than ever.

My sickness is over thank god but my hip is terrible, I can't walk but sitting and lying down is also painful. I'm not enjoying being pregnant and wish I was :( Pigpen - what did you do about your hips? I recall you posting about it recently?

On a good note I recommend h&m maternity tights/leggings and newlook jeans. Nice and comfy and don't look maternity!

I'm 20wks so 48hrs until my next scan. My OH doesn't seem concerned the nipper might not be there/no heartbeat/have a defect :( I'm very concerned until I get the all clear.

I'm also booking at 32wk 3D scan - my mum is coming and is very excited!
