Hello Girls,
Im feeling much better and after sobbing on the phone to the midwife twice this week about how stressed I was feeling having to wait 4 weeks for another scan they have 'magically' found me an appointment for the end of next week!
Sitting on a star - I like the comment about a shy baby, my DH is rather shy so perhaps that is what it is!
Welcome to all the new people! So lovely to see some names I recognise from the ttc and the 12 week threads *waves* to Hopelass, marie1, sweaty betty, lemonmelon and the lovely cleofish and a hi to Poppy
I am nearly 22 weeks and have been feeling some pops and bubbles but not what I would call proper kicks yet, and sometimes nothing all day but in the middle of the night when I get up for a pee I get a flutter in there. If at first you dont succeed, try, try again0 -
Mine has been very busy bouncing about this week.. all day, all night, all over the place.. I'm not used to babies that move.. Squeak forever had hiccups and Dot never moved!! Afternoon ladies.
Got the results of the nuchal screen through yesterday. I'm not sure whether a 'bad' result would have affected us but glad we don't need to consider it to be honest.
Morning sickness does seem to have passed somewhat (although every time I say that I have a really bad bout a day or so later!). Only real disappointment is that at work they'll no longer let me on building sites. I know I could have kept quiet but if anything had happened, I wouldn't be covered by the company policy. Just to be clear, I don'e work on a building site but I occasionally have to visit them to assess progress etc. I quite like site visits.
I've had a horrible cold for most of the week and have been surviving on olbas oil, vicks, paracetamol and strepsils. We're meeting some friends this evening for the first time since we broke the news so will no doubt have a million and one questions thrown at us.
I'm thinking of getting a doppler as my husband won't be coming to any of the midwife appointments with me so won't get to hear it. My main concern however is that I have an anterior placenta so I'm not sure how much this will hinder me in being able to find it...? Maybe I'll see how much the midwife struggles at my next appointment before buying one.
Hope everyone is keeping well.Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0 -
I have an anterior placenta aswell and the midwife managed to find the heartbeat very quickly. Not sure if that was just luck or not though.
Don't think I would trust myself with a doppler though, I'd end up hearing my heartbeat!!!0 -
I love my Doppler.. the quiet days I am able to find baby very quickly and easily. I have had several anterior placentas and tbh it really makes no difference as to whether you find it or not.
Finding your own hb first is necessary.. the baby's heart is usually about twice as fast as your so easy to tell the difference... Yours sounds like a heart theirs sounds like a train chugging along or a horse race!
OH has no interest in hearing the heartbeat.. in fact I think he is spending all his time trying to block out the fact it is happening lolLB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Oh that's a relief. I know that he does want to hear it (as does my nephew for some reason) but he doesn't get much holiday so is only coming to the scans.Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0

cleofish and lemonmelon - am so pleased to see you on here and wish you both all the best for your pregnancies!0

Afternoon all, and welcome to all the new posters!
I'm v jealous of those who got to hear the heartbeat at their 16 week appointment! Mine was over in less than 5 minutes, no mention of trying to listen for it or anything. Just quick blood pressure and urine check, asked if everything was OK, and they'll see me again at 22 weeks! Guessing I'll get to hear it then, though I'm planning on moving doctors so will be different antenatal clinic, so who knows?!
Am 17 weeks today, think I might be feeling a few flutters but don't know really lol. Waiting impatiently for a date for our 20 week scan. Got a letter this week saying we're low risk for Down's, which is great news, but when I saw NHS on the envelope I thought it was a scan letter, so was quite annoyed when it wasn't!
Also waiting impatiently for DH to finish work and come home with a chinese for dinner, yum yum! Hope everyone has a good weekend.0 -
For my county I am in I am lead to believe at the 16 week appointment they will listen to baby's heart beat.
I didn't know so my hubby dropped me off, which at 1st I was really upset about that he was missing out, but then I just smiled when I heard the heart beat.
Unfortunately hubby is out of work at the moment, he was made redundant and just so happens my appointment fitted into my holidays (school) so I guess under normal circumstances he would of missed it anyway as would of been at work.
I thought about getting the device to listen to it at home and also play it over skype for my parents/sister (I am from Australia) but my friend has one and she doesn't like it. She became too obsessed she said with finding the heart beat all the time and sometimes she panicked when she didn't pick it up straight away. She decided to stop using it.
My hubby wasn't too disappointed about missing out, he said he'd rather miss that and not miss the scans.
We're off shopping tomorrow to get ideas of prices for prams, cots etc. Has anyone heard that mothercare is in trouble?
I liked the idea of the 6 month payment plan they have with no interest but another friend of mine said she thought they were struggling. So I am wary of doing a payment plan and then potentially loosing all my money.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -

I believe that Mothercare are doing very well in Europe but less well over here. I know they've closed down a few shops over here, but I'd hope that there would be a way of getting your money back if they closed the UK side of things.0
