I am only feeling occasional pops and bubbles, and I am 21 weeks today.

Just had the health visitor over to give DS a check up. He should have had one at 12 months, but my health authority being rubbish never wrote to me, so a very nice HV came over this pm. DS started yelling as soon as he saw her..he is such a sensitive boy, but within 5 mins he was playing with the toys she had brought, showing her stuff and being charming.

She said he is advance for his age in his speech/counting etc, so I am feeling very proud :D

How am I going to get to heaven?,
When I'm just balanced so precariously..

Hi everyone, I hope its ok if I join this board,!

Im 13+4 weeks today and ive been holding off joining this board until now because of my history and because of all the problems that we have previously had. Already I feel I have lived a lifetime of this pregnancy just to get to 13 weeks, but im hoping that after today I can start to finally believe and enjoy what normal people have in a pregnancy.!

I hope you dont mind but here is a little info on me and my situation, its easier getting it out of the way first.
This is my 4th pregnancy with as of yet no children. Its a bit of a read so I aplogise in advance :)!

I suffered a molar pregnancy about 5 years ago now, it was removed but by then it had turned basically into a tumour that grew back and that I needed chemotherapy to get rid of, so that took a lot of time to get through and get over. We had to wait at least a year afterwards because of the chemo before trying again, which with everything going on wasnt a problem.!

We then become pregnant again but had a mmc at around 11 weeks which showed that it had stopped growing at around 8.5 weeks. I had a d and c and we put it down to really bad luck after the molar but just maybe one of those things.

We then got pregnant again but basically the same thing happened, mmc at roughly the same number of weeks. This we found devasting and started to suspect something might be really wrong.

We got referred for recurrent miscarriage testing and with getting the results back it took nearly a year. It came back showing that I have a chromosone problem called robertsonian balanced translocation on my 13 14 chromosone, basically normal people have 46 chromosomes but I have 45 as 2 of my chromosomes 13 and 14 are fused together, no health problems for me only until I try to start a family. Again this was a real blow and we thought ultimately it was the end of us being able to have a baby naturally.!We did a lot of reading, joined forums, spoke to others in the same situation and saw a genetic counsellor and at the beginning of this year starting trying again, this time knowing that we only had a 33% chance of having a live baby, as all the other times would result in an egg with too much chromosome information and would lead to a lot of miscarriages.

We got pregnant again (Im starting to sound like a bunny now!) In feb this year and we have had weekly scans all the way through to 11 weeks, it has been such a difficult time especially getting past that 8/9 week mark. We also had a cvs at 11 weeks where they take some of the placenta cells to chromosone test the baby to see if it is stable enough or unstable and ultimately to take the decision to end the pregnancy or not.

I received the results tuesday and it has come back showing that the baby is balanced chromosonally but does have the translocation like me, so a healthy baby basically but more than likely just like me they will have problems conceiving later on in life, I was hoping everything would come back normal, and I do carry a guilt that I passed on the translocation but im hoping by the time they try for a family that medicial science would have advanced, now they offer ivf with pgd but hopefuly in the future it will be easier for them. We also found out its a baby girl as well.

Well I think thats it for the moment :)

ive been mainly part of an american forum for people with translocations, but I think it would be good now to join others who are going through their pregnancy, as I know nothing beyond this point!!

I am finding at the moment its hard to get my head around that we are going to have a baby, I know it sounds strange being over 13 weeks saying that, but this will be the first time that a pregnancy will (hopefully) mean a baby at the end of it as we have never had that before.!

Right sorry for the essay, but hopefully ill be able to offer advice to others as well.
  • congratulations cleofish, I've never heard of translocation so you have opened my eyes.

pigpen, hope the pain gets better. Why are you getting pain? I think I missed that.
  • Hi everyone, had a lovely day today, all because I got to hear baby's heart beat for the 1st time.

I'm 16+3 so was my 16 week appt. All my bloods came back good, in fact she was impressed with my iron count.

Baby's heart beat was 150, couldn't believe how loud and clear it was and then occasionally mine was picked up and sounded sooo slow in compassion.

Next appt in the 20 week scan and still undecided whether to find out what we're having, well I am, hubby has said from the beginning he'd like to find out. He seems to think he can and manage to keep it from me, I highly doubt that, lol.

Hope everyone is well and a big hello to everyone who is new.

  • Ah congratulations Cleofish! that's brilliant news. My history is not so different as this is also out 4th pregnancy with no children yet and I had a partial molar pregnancy too. Really glad things have worked out for you now and so exciting you are having a girl!

I'm also feeling a bit overwhelmed. I was concentrating so hard on getting to the scan and all being well that I haven't even considered what comes next!!

Thank you so much all of you for the replies.

Lemonmelon- congratulations on your pregnancy, im so happy for you. I recognise your name from the other forums I didnt know you also had a molar as well, im sorry they are horrible and scary times.
I hope you are well, how many weeks are you now?
I also feel exactly how you put it, I tried to set mini goals, reach 8/9 weeks, reach cvs ... that now we are here after all of that im not sure what to do now :)

My parents and inlaws and even my dh are so excited and are planning for the future, but at the moment I cant even think that far ahead. Some of them are driving me nuts talking about things we need to get, I know they mean well but I cant even look at anything baby releated never mind make plans.

Has anyone got any tips with dealing with over zealous family with lots of plans? I know they mean well and after so many pregancies they have been waiting so long, but I think im going to just tell them thank you but its way too soon to be doing all this, but the way I feel at the moment ill be waiting until week 39 :)

Continualdiamond- wow I bet it was lovely hearing your babys heartbeat . is it a standard thing the midwife will do at the 16 week appointment? I have been thinking of getting a doppler but then again it might create more worrry and stress if I cant find anything one day, think ill wait till 16 weeks if the midwife will do one.

Welcome cleofish, congrats and good luck with your pregnancy :) I think it is standard at the 16 week appointment to listen to baby's heartbeat, it's definitely nice to hear.

Well I'm 17+3 today feeling a bit off headaches and sickly, didn't sleep well last night had a worry about finances etc :( feel a bit panicky about everything, sure it's just a hormonal wobble I've been feeling great all week.

    Xx
