The vaccine isn't to stop u from catching it pigpen, it's so that u can pass on the protection to baby. There's been a pretty bad outbreak in the UK recently and they strongly recommend u get it. 13 babies died from whooping cough last year I think
I'll see if I can find the NHS article for u. U might want to reconsider having it.
I know what it is for.. but if you are already immune they will be protected anyway.
I wouldn't have it. I've never had any vaccinations. Both my vaccinated daughter and her son had whooping cough last summer. Plus the 'new' strain isn't fully protected against by the current vaccine (about 65% effective IIRC) which is about 60 years old and it is more resistant to antibiotics.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Good luck today dippy and MV!
Emily B - great news that all was ok at your scan!
Hope everybody else is ok
Had amazing spa day on Saturday. Went with the bikini option in the end and just had my big belly on show all day!!!
Being back at work on Monday after such a nice weekend wasn't much fun - but I've just handed in the letter about my maternity leave, and also calculated that I only have to survive another eleven Monday mornings...My boss is being a bit funny about me taking all my holiday (this year's full allowance) before maternity leave starts - she wouldn't let me take it between now and then, but now she's stressing out as she'll have to pay me full pay for five weeks while she's also paying my replacement a full salary. She's said she'd pay me half my holiday pay, and then the remaining half at the end of the calendar year - doesn't seem right to me, off to have a look online and see what I can find... Sigh, I'm so ready to leave this job!
TMI: have had REALLY bad constipation  so might be taking the advice about Fybogel that people were mentioning earlier...! And just trying to add lots of fibre to my diet (which is currently full of refined carbs like white bread, probably not helping)
Have a good day everybody!0 -

Ah, I misread what you meant. I think most people do have a slight immunity to whooping cough through a previous vaccination or through having whooping cough before, but from what I’ve read immunity doesn’t last forever. Also, having the vaccine will increase the antibodies that you do have to pass to the baby. I think the vaccine is only effective in about 70ish% of people so that may be why your daughter still managed to get it (poor daughter and her bubba!), but that’s still good enough odds for me to want to have it. Each to their own though – I completely respect people’s choice to have or not have a vaccine. It’s quite scary that whooping cough seems to be on the increase for some reason! I suppose you could read and read about these things and find just as many arguments for as against. I guess we all just have to go with our gut. Who knew you would have so many decisions to make for your baby before they are even born! :rotfl:

Poor you having bad constupation!Touch wood, I haven't had that symptom yet! Maybe try bran flakes or something like that for breakfast?? I usually have shredded wheat most days so maybe that's why I have avoided it so far...My digestion is definitely slower though!
That is really rubbish about your work being difficult! I'm not sure they can 'force' you to do anything with your holidays that isn't your choice. I hope your boss remembers that you accrue more holidays all the way through your mat. leave too so you will have even more to take when you return to work! We have a fantastic HR guy - he is freelance rather than an employee so he has no bias in these things. If you want me to ask him anything for you just let me know! He will tell me from a legal entitlement point of view rather than what my work might prefer me to do.
I'll be working for 6 months of the holiday year which runs Jan-Dec for us so I was planning on taking half of my annual leave allowance and saving the other half, plus all the holidays I accrue during mat. leave to use when I return to work so that I can go back part time IYSWIM. That would mean that I should be able to work about 20 weeks at three days a week when I return and still get paid as if I was full time. It's all so complicated isn't it!?
Good luck to those having scans today! Can't wait to hear how you got on!
Oh, and welcome to the newbies! Our thread is filling up fast!0 -

Thanks lovecake - things are never straightforward at my work! Our holiday year runs Jan-Dec too, but we are not allowed to carry over holiday from one year to the next (and on this occasion I don't want to anyway!).
What I want to do is take all of the holiday allowance from beginning of May - early June, and then start official maternity leave (and pay) in early June.
Boss is effectively saying she wants me to start mat. leave earlier (i.e. mid May), only take 2.5 weeks holiday from the beginning of May, and then she'll pay me for the rest of the holiday at the end of the calendar year.
Financially I won't be any worse off, but the issue I have with it is that it pulls back my return to work date next year by a couple of weeks, and I don't think that's very fair.
The ridiculous thing is that, if she'd let me book some holiday for March as I'd originally requested (and she'd refused), then this might be less of an issue!
If you get a chance to ask your HR guy what he thinks about it.. I would be very interested to hear! Thanks so much
(And sorry for taking up the thread with this whinge... back to discussion about actual pregnancy now...)

Thanks guys, pretty nervous now! Hope everythings ok. Nice one emily on yr good scan. And Mrs J glad u had a lovely weekend, your boss sounds well dodgy. Guess i'm pretty lucky i work for a government agency so they won't be finicky about paying me. I was planning on taking my whole year's holiday allowance after 9 months so take it to about 11 months off total. Eeek better go get ready and start drinkin my water!!0

Mrsj28 - they can get you to take holiday at the end of the holiday year I'm afraid, otherwise you haven't technically accured it. If you're going to run your maternity leave past December and they don't allow you to roll it forward, then they can pay you instead of giving the time unfortunately. They could pay it all in December's pay.0

dippy - try looking at hypnobirthing - i havent started yet but planning to, apparently it helps you deal with the birth in a more positive way and helps you deal with the fear of birth. Theres prob lots of free resources on the web too..
Is anyone else having severe hip/leg/back pain? I can't walk on my left leg atm without feeling very sharp pains in my hip/back - how can you tell the difference between PGP/SPD and sciatica?? My dr is rubbish she has just told me that I should just deal with it, and recommended yoga, which is getting painful to do
