Looking forward to omy scan on Tues!! :-)
Ihatedida which bouncer and gym did you go for? !:)

Oooh! Good luck for Tues - remember plenty of sugary treats to get baby hyper beforehand!!!! I have my 3rd scan on Friday (they didn't see everything they wanted to on the 2nd as baby was in stupid position!).

I went for this when it was £14.99 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bright-Starts-Sunnside-Bouncer-Multicoloured/dp/B005P5D9IK/ref=sr_1_3?s=baby&ie=UTF8&qid=1359795363&sr=1-3 (just seen an openbox one at £17 - it looks really nice - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B005P5D9IK/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all) and this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fisher-Price-Luv-Zoo-Musical-Activity/dp/B0042D69ZQ/ref=sr_1_7?s=baby&ie=UTF8&qid=1359795408&sr=1-7 - they advertised a so-called "opened box" one for £16.59 but when it arrived the box has never been opened so bargain! I think you need to watch Amazon closely for the bargains!!!

I also received my £2.50 cellular asda blankets (from dippydoopas thread) and lots of sheets for £2.50 also (I ordered 4 sets but Asda popped 6 in my parcel - so all good!!!). I also bought some Tomy Tippee pink bottles for a tenner (I am really hoping that the sonographer hasn't got the "flavour" wrong now!!!).

I am loving the baby bargains thread!:T Welcome baleb!

I'm technically not a lurker in here anymore :D 12+5 by scan, 12+1 by LMP. Due 12th - 16th August.

I'm a little sad that as this is my second I won't be able to join in the excitement of shopping as I have almost everything.

Will probably buy a cot and mattress as DD is keeping the cotbed. And I'm going to need a TENS machine as the people we lent it to never gave it back :@

Hoping I can help with ideas and advice for you lot.

I need a couple of pointers - one thing about the first time is you read everything about pregnancy so know it all, but this time I can't be bothered/don't really have time. So does anyone know when you're supposed to stop lying on your back?

And when is it the midwife tests iron levels? Is it 28 weeks? Want to make sure I'm taking my spatone daily before :) Don't want to be put on iron tablets.
    Baby Giz born 6/2/11
  • Not sure about the iron levels

Think it's about 16 weeks to not lie on your back, but most MWs say if its comfortable then don't panic about it, your body will make you move in the night if its causing a problem. I wake up on my back sometimes, just means I have to wait to get up as my right leg is dead! Something to do with baby being on a nerve

I am thinking of buying a 2nd hand cotbed and painting it (new mattress though!).

Does anyone know of any paints suitable for a cot? (in otherwise babysafe - I have found an American company called Yolo colourhouse but I don't seem to be able to find anywhere to buy this in the UK).

    Thank you!:)

All new paint is safe now. It was just the ancient tins like your grandad might still have in the shed that contained lead that is not safe

Are you sure? (sorry to question!) Even those with VOCs or whatever they are? Especially if the baby is biting the rails that have paint on them - surely standard gloss wouldn't be that good for them???

28 and 36 weeks.. though you should start taking spatone now before your iron stores are depleted these are far more important than the actual Hb.. you can't make red cells with no stores! (They always want to do mine monthly so of course I just refuse, I am currently looking for a way out of the booking appt and to still get the scan)

It is the fumes that are the issue as they are the solvents drying out of the paint.

Standard gloss is oil based so should only be used if there is no alternative but there are plenty of gloss paints which are not oil based now.. there is always eggshell which gives a nicer finish too.

    Linky

Does the cot not have teething rails anyway you can buy them and stick them on if not.. much cleaner and less damage done from teeth.

I know Next, Laura Ashley, Mothercare etc sell paint which they claim to be perfect for cots etc and ecopaints.com have been recommended a few places.. Not sure what B&Q stock but if they can charge twice the price they will have it in I'm sure.

Oh.. do not use car paint.. I used it a few years ago.. it is like LSD in a can!

What I have seen noted is that paiting should be left to dry for a minimum of 6 weeks after painting before using the cots as it takes that long for the fumes to stop being released... but I'm sure you have that long.

And if it is varnished currently you will need to get all that off before painting otherwise the paint doesn't stick.
