Dida - What specifically do you want to know? We may be able to help answer any questions you have if they are general? I know everyones experiences are different and most areas do things differently but it's always good to bounce info off one another. I'm not sure making an appointment with a GP is the right thing to do if it's only information you are after?

Thank you - I think I was after reassurance - I am an older mum and am really worried about my migraines especially as they are now different. I took a migraleve with the first one but felt bad for doing so. I just don't know how to really deal with work and migraines as I work somewhere that I can't just drop everything and disappear - I have been used to taking Zomig which I know I can't take.
Also my numbness in my leg - I don't know really how to deal with this at work - I know the cause but again, I don't work in a job that I can't sit down much. I am now also worried about being rhesus negative - as my job can sometimes entail getting bumped into. And another worry (you'll wish you hadn't asked in a minute!) is that I am concerned about the size of my stomach - I look massive and I'm not even 4 months yet!
All things I would just have liked to have been given the chance to ask had I not been in the middle of a corridor and rushed along. My 1st MW appointment was fab - the MW was lovely, the one I saw today didn't seem to care - I might ask that I don't see that one again as I didn't feel as though I could ask her anything:(

You've just made my day - I'm not the only one worrying about this!! (Not that I want to say your worries have made my day, but... I hope you know what I mean!!)0 -

Seriously - my belly sticks out from just underneath my boobs, almost into a pointy bit - I look about 6/7 months! (everyone else was writing about their small bumps and not showing yet....!)

Hi Nikki - I don't have any consultant experience but I'm sure other ladies on here will.
Re: maternity clothes - it's totally up to you. Everybody grows at different rates and some people have bumps early on, others don't show until later! For me I have started wearing maternity stuff in the last couple of weeks - I bought some maternity leggings and have just been wearing normal long tops which I already own with them, and I bought some maternity work trousers in December too. I'm 16 weeks now and definitely not comfortable in any of my usual trousers - I find any normal waistbands really uncomfortable.
p.s. on that note - I need a slap, I've been panicking today that my bump is 'too big' because a couple of people have commented on how big it is already, and keep thinking it means something might be wrong.... I know that's ridiculous... am I allowed to blame hormones or something?! If it was "too small" I'd be panicking as well, so I should probably just shut up
I can't wait to start showing a bump! (I'm a size 16 anyway so not exactly skinny) so I figure it may take longer for me to look pregnant and not just like I ate too much over the festive period!
I think we all panic at what is probably the silliest things, I'm finding blaming hormones is working for me for now!New first time mummy to a gorgeous little boy!

Well wife had an appointment today with the Dr and she has been told that her PAPP-A level is very low. What the result value is I do not know. There is something in her green book thing which say 0.85 and 0.28 but no other markings as to what result they refer to.
This put the fear of god into her and she came back home sobbing her heart out. The Dr refused to answer any of her questions about it other than to say that "it wont get past 28w".... clearly she was devastated! A midwife did her best to settle her and they managed to find the heartbeat which according the MW is good and strong.
I managed to calm her down and a quick google suggests yes there is an increased in risk of various issues (according to current limited studies) but I found a bucket load of evidence that people with low PAPP-A levels go on to have very healty little bundles of joy!
So from here there are additional checks that she now has to go to. We have the 20w scan in just over 2 weeks, then additional checks every 4 weeks from 28w to measure her tummy. If it falls behind in the "ideal size" chart then they will do a scan and do measurments (why they dont just do that in the first place I dont know).
oh well - 5 more months of being nervous I suppose, but there is nothing anybody can do about it so its just ride the wave and see what happens. Will probably pay for a few private scans just to put our minds at ease as to whats going on with bump!0 -
Hi all,
I'm new to the thread - I will try to keep up, hopefully it won't move too fast for me! I'm 17, nearly 18, weeks and due 8th June. It's our first, after trying for over 2 years and funnily enough, conceived just days after getting a puppy (and starting to think I wasn't cut out for parenthood!). Very excited and hoping to pick up tips, get support etc from others!0 -
I'm sorry to hear about today's news SplanK. I hope everything is ok.
Lily - I am going to phone them tomorrow!

More reading and more people saying good outcomes, some with slightly small baby's. From what I have gathered so far, low papp a by itself does not usually mean much and it seems most consultants and drs who actually look at the overall picture rather than fixate just on that one result are not too worried but still up the monitoring just in case to keep an eye on things. I don't know the other results though but taking a stab in the dark that the fact my wife has only mentioned the low papp a results to me...
I am going to start the ball rolling on a complaint about this Dr, there is no way that any pregnant woman should walk away with more questions than answers and be in bits about it as a result. The Dr has picked the wrong couple to mess with!0 -
NikkiAnn - We had booking with midwife but saw consultant at 12 weeks (and will now be consultant led for the duration) for similar reasons.
For what we had, it helped to reassure us that we were getting the best care possible and they have agreed to do more regular scans too.0
