Ihatedida - not to worry, 1:1445 is def low risk! yeah is could be due to including ur age in calculations..

About numbness - ive not had it but i would speak to your midwife about it - she can advise you on how to treat it maybe?
We got rid of the kids. The cat was allergic. ;)

Hello IHatedida too :hello: and welcome xxxx

I am also an "older mum" this time -am 36 will be 37 when bump arrives - not my first though, this is number 4  And final one :)
Am a little tireder with this one but am not sure if thats my age or looking after 3 other children aswell! Other than that - no real issues that I haven't had in any of the other pregnancies - and my eldest is nearly 15, so I am a fair bit older now :rotfl: Am sure you will be fine and how exciting - first baby :T

My triple screening just came back with low risk this time, no number either - but would have been interesting to know what I got!! I have had my 20 week scan (well had 2 because baby was unco-operative and still came away with no picture - sonographer said he was the shyest baby she had ever seen :o) and they could not see any problems, so am trying to relax now and look forward to the arrival :)

I think the numbness can also due to the extra blood that you have in your body while pregnant, which apparently presses on nerves and the weight of the growing baby :).
I have had it in previous pregnancies and it was either a baby sitting on a nerve which resulted in sciatica or SPDl. I have been getting pin and needles and numbness in my arms and shoulders with this pregnancy and think this is because I am sleeping with my arms under my pillows because I am having to sleep on my sides but propped up because of the pain in my pelvis. I have bought long sleeve nighties (how hard are they to find????) so I don't have to hide them to keep them warm and am using extra pillows and this seems to have worked. as long as it does go and you are well otherwise - I would put it down to a joy of pregnancy - just one of those things that pregnancy brings!!!!

helen4891 - I didn't realise you were having a c-section, did you with your boys? Perhaps give the hospital a quick ring I am sure they would be able to tell you?

missty25 - Any more luck finding out about the MA?

My Mum said she had bought bump a Christmas present today (she did it with all of them :)) - made me realise I need to start getting organised and thinking about what I need!

Baby has started kicking furiously all day long now - clearly just testing his muscles. My eldest put his hand on my stomach when he got home from school and baby promptly kicked him twice. He was thrilled as he is the first person to feel him. He just goes quiet when DH tries to feel him!

Hope everyone else is well and taking care of themselves xxxxxx
  • Welcome to the thread !!!!!!

Wrote a lovely long post, then my phone died on me , so writing again on I pad .

Great news about all those downs test, I was very unlucky and had high chance which was 1 in 122, went on the have Cvs test and thank fully everything was fine and didn't have a miscarriage either so think myself very lucky, anything under 150 is classed as high risk.

I'm 28, having my 3rd child (first 2 were plan, this one wasn't!! But just think it was meant to be, as we got married 2 months before) and been together 8 years

Chonorla I'm a lot more tired this time,
I never had a c section before both natural, but classed as high risk I have the choice.
My husband has said he will do everything if I have this, as he doesn't want to go through labour again! Going to c a birth choice person on 17th to go through everything, I'll ask then.
  • Hey there, we've got busy!
Nice to hear everyone's developing well. Nothing eventful to report here. I've had a small hint of a flutter so may finally be able to start feeling the baby now... finally!
Anyone else waking at the same time every night? Reliably I'm awake at 4am (ish, sometimes 3.50am, sometimes 4.15am) for about 40 mins or so. I think it maybe when the baby wakes up for a wriggle, but will have to wait a bit longer to feel it as not obvious movements yet.
Nice to hear everyone's updates on Downs' tests. It's a difficult one, well done on making your mind up Snozberry. Our outlook was a little different, our nephew was diagnosed with Downs at birth, SIL was low risk on all her tests and only mid 20's but still the odds went that way. We had the test done as I wanted to get an idea of risk, if I was 1 in 2 , I would know more what to expect than 1 in 45000 (as ours turned out to be). Never would we forgive ourselves if we didn't follow the pregnancy through though, and it would give a very skewed view to say if we knew we were expecting a child like our nephew, we wouldn't have kept it, no, that wouldn't feel right. However I think it depends very much on circumstances and no one should judge anyone on the decision that suits them... I don't know if SIL would have carried on with pregnancy if she'd known early on. I don't know honestly that we would have if we didn't know what we know now.
It's partly the reason we're not fussed about gender. If it's healthy and happy, I don't mind if we're team blue or pink. Also I think it's taught us we can't prep for everything.
Oh dear, bit longwinded ramble there!
On the upside, only 2 weeks til christmas tomorrow!!!!!! EEEEEK!! I love Christmas! Going to finish writing cards on Thursday after scan, so can hopefully confirm everything's ok and spread the news to the friends we see less of.
Hope you're all enjoying Christmas prep.x

helen4891 - yes your bean was definitely meant to be this time, after what you went through :D

I have been classed as high risk with all of my pregnancies and have been under Consultant care, but have not had the choice - not that I want a c section obviously!!! Am just being nosey sorry :o Big decision to make really  My DH just loves my labours too - I was that fast last time, he had gone out for a cigarette and nearly missed it - the MW were hanging out of the window shouting him back in!!

lazywife - I wake every night at 1am for a wee and then am awake from about 3-5 am when baby has a disco dance session. Kicking and turning round - its very cute but I can't get comfortable!! And I try to doze of and it pokes me in the hips or bladder !!!

    Hello Everyone,

I'm currently 23 weeks with a little boy. Already have DD aged 5. I suffered from Hyperemisis badly between weeks 6 and about 18 and gradually it has subsided and I can enjoy being pregnant a bit more.

Got a question re maternity allowance and wondered if anyone in similar position? I take home £79 a week so can't get SMP, however I work for the NHS and get occupational pay of full pay for 8 weeks the. Half pay for the next 18 weeks. I am waiting on getting my mat b1 back from them plus the form the give to send to DWP for maternity allowance.

Reading up the guidelines on Mat allowance as I understand that the pay I will get from NHS is occupational that this will not be included in my application for Mat allowance. Also I need to send 13 weeks of payslips that can go back for 66 weeks from EDD and they also do not need to be fromc consecutive weeks and it actually tells you in the guidelines that you can choose payslips where you have done overtime and they will work out the average from these weeks and decide what your allowance will be. I have 13 weeks payslips with overtime ranging from earnings of £15F0 to about £225 with the average working out T £159. Does anyone know will I get the £135 per week of Maternity Allowance based on these figures? I'm just trying to work out how much money we will have while I am off and as my forms probably won't be sent until after Christmas now I am just anxious to know if 1) my NHS occupational really wont be included when DWP work out my Mat allowance And 2) if according to the way they work it out I will receive the full entitlement to Mat Alloawance.

Sorry for such a long post but I don't know where I can get the right info and when I've phoned up the helpline they basically have told me I'll need to wait until I have sent all the forms in :( head hitting off a brick wall!

Glad all your scans have gone smoothly, I've been lurking and readi g for a while:)

Hi Missty- and everyone else, congratulations! I miss it all, even the panic that I wouldn't be pregnant any more until the few scans!

I have a 15 week old baby and was working casually for an employer as well as being self employed. I only had monthly payslips to send ranging from £30 to £200 a month and paid national insurance contributions. I have no idea how they work it out but I was very relieved to get the letter saying I'd get full allowance. When I rang there was. Sweet man who said they try and get you as much as poss but I still didn't believe them. I'd suggest ringing hmrc to check your national insurance is up to date before sending form in and possibly be prepared to appeal if needed. Try and send in the payslips with most cash if poss xx

Hello, I'm another graduate from the less than 12 weeks thread :) I'm 13+5 today and this is number 2 for us.

My nausea seems to have gone now - hooray! - however it seems to have taken all of my energy with it :( I didn't feel tired at all in the first trimester, but now seem to get worn out by any sort of activity. Had to miss my DS's toddler gym class yesterday as I was too worn out after doing the supermarket shop in the morning to take him. I was practically dead on my feet after doing the shopping, putting it away and then making lunch.

When am I supposed to start blooming?!

I'm an older mum too at 38. IHateDida, the age related risk of downs is something like 1 in 175 at age 38. Mine was something like 1 in 1500 when I was pregnant with DS at 35 and the consultant I saw then said that was very low at that age, so I don't think you have anything to worry about.

    Hi all,

I am having a 'good' (ie not nauseous) day so far today - I'm due one after 4 bad days in a row! Perhaps I will start blooming from today :o

We had an interesting morning - went for a tour of our local nursery. It is really amazing, I know it has a great reputation (and an 18 month waiting list!), but going in there just confirmed it. It is about 2 minutes from our house, set in a beautiful park, the kids all looked happy and included, the activities super fun, I will be really happy to leave the little bead there when we are back at work. On the down side the receptionist told us that they only do a September intake, even for babies  So even though we are on the waiting list nearly 18 months in advance we might need to make alternative provision for the first few months we are back at work :(.

However, when I returned to pay the deposit (me and OH went to a cafe to discuss), the receptionist said to keep in regular touch with them and they would probably be able to accommodate us with an April entry (which is what we are after). Not sure if a manager overheard and she was wrong originally or what. Hmm, I thought we were super, super organised (part of my job is analysis of London's childcare policy - so I know about the shortage of places for under 2s), but now feel a bit confused about whether we should investigate something else for those first 6 months or so, just in case.

Hope everyone is having a good day. I'm feeling rather clucky from seeing all the cute babies and toddlers!

helen4891 Oh and are c - Sections done a week early? If booked in? I'm due on a Saturday so wouldn't be done at a weekend though would it?
    Xx[/QUOTE]

Usually sections are performed at 39 weeks ... unless it's an emergency, you go into labour early or they are fully booked and you have to wait for a theatre slot (this happened to me .. my 2nd section was arranged for 40+1)

They usually schedule them Monday to Friday. You will be given a time to go in eg 7am for a 9.45am section BUT ... be prepared to wait as emergencies take priority and your 9.45am section might not happen until 5pm.
