Think I'm going to have to buy a doppler to console myself with each night. Worries are about the cord getting tangled around baby and strangling it, and having a missed m/c.
Once you've hit 13 weeks the chances of miscarriage are really small. (Indeed once the heartbeat has been seen it's reduced dramatically). Remember finding heartbeat with a doppler is not always easy (even for professionals!) so make sure you can handle it if you can't find a heartbeat one day because baby is being uncooperative. I did find the bits between the 12 week scan and the 20 week scan the longest as I had lost all my symptoms aside from the bump and you can't feel baby yet, but once you can feel the little wriggler it gets much easier. (Until it starts to feel like they're attempting to make a break for freedom!!)

I'm not really supposed to be on here as I'm 38 weeks now ;)

Hello and welcome Just want a house :hello: I am due 13th April so not too far apart!

Can I reassure you that it is perfectly normal to worry? I am on baby number 4 and worry just as much as with my first baby :o It is part of being a parent - but this bit starts before baby is here and is never ending after they arrive!!!!

You have had 2 scans and seen baby well and kicking, so look after yourself and "try" not to worry. (Which I know is easier said than done ) The likelihood of anything going wrong is very slim.

As for the doppler - I have never had one because I know I would get my self in a tizzy if I couldn't find the heart beat :o But the dopplers you can buy at home are no way as accurate or sensitive as the ones the MW's use - and sometimes they struggle to find wriggly babies!!! So bear that in mind if you are a worrier anyway. :)

helen4891 - I give away a lot of stuff on freecycle but rarely request anything. I saw this post and requested them and they said yes straight away! I am really pleased. I gave up work in September to do my Masters so money has been quite tight - so this has helped us a lot. Its definitely worth joining and keeping your eyes open - especially as like me you have given all the baby stuff away!!

And yes you do learn with experience what is and what is not needed - so we are just doing the very basics this time.

  • Afternoon Ladies,

Just wanted to let you know I've been to see midwife for a routine appt and she's (along with you guys) put paid to any fears I am currently experiencing :j

We got to listen to the heartbeat for a while and the baby could out do a race horse!!! It was galloping along, I was soooo relieved.

She says I am progressing nicely and all my tests have come back fine, so I'm chuffed to bits and will hopefully calm down a bit now.

She also along with some on here said she prob wouldnt bother with a doppler as it would drive me crazy, but did say that an empty toilet roll might let us listen to something, so have told hubby to find one for tonight!!!

Have a great afternoon and evening, sorry if I'm boring some of you, will try to be more positive ;)

Evening ladies, and how are we all today?

I'm a little less tired today than yesterday, slightly easier day at work with less drama from patient's relatives - always a bonus!

binkyboo, hope that you're all settled into your new home now and things are progressing well with you.

lazywife, good luck for your mw appt tomorrow and hope that she does have a listen in to baby; it does vary so much across the country.
Good luck with the wedding on Saturday; I had a similar issue a couple weeks ago for one of hubby's cousin's wedding.

helen, Yay for starting to feel kicks and too for your mw listening in to baby at your appointment; I found it so reassuring and too starting to feel baby makes it so much more real. Regarding cravings, I am craving milk and haribo's super mix... odd really as I've not drunk straight milk for about 20 years! and I don't like sweets usually.

chonorla, sorry to hear that you had another trip to the local hospital but should we keep our fingers crossed that this time may be the last for sickness?

Just a house, Congratulations and welcome :) Yay too for hearing the heartbeat - it is such a relief to actually hear it.

AFM, I did buy a home doppler (angelsounds) because I've been so anxious that something would go wrong again and a friend with a similar history to me said how much it had helped her. However, I didn't buy it until after my 16wk appt with the mw where I'd heard baby's heartbeat and kicks with her. I also started feeling some movements around 15 weeks - early I know, but think it may make a difference that my placenta is posterior and my uterus is already quite high? The movements are still a little irregular though as baby still has quite a bit of space. I've made a rule that I only listen in to baby twice a week, with hubby, so its a bonding experience for him too as he can't feel the movements yet. The first time we listened in, it took 15min to find the heartbeat but we'd very quickly picked up the placenta and a number of kicks with it so I knew baby was ok, just lying awkwardly.
I figure as long as I hear baby moving about , I know baby is ok and I feel better for that reassurance. It is a very personal choice though.

I had to send feedback to my consultant today and she wants me to tweak the dose and keep monitoring until I see her again next week. Must say, that she is making me feel that she's really keeping an eye on things which is reassuring.

Only 2 weeks to go to my scan... can't wait to see baby again!

    Saf xx
