chonorla how quick are you labours???
my first was 8'6 and 9 hours
my second was 9'3 and 1 hour, but had problems with severe shoulder dysteria on these one, so im see in a birthing person on monday about these.0 -
helen4891 - My first was 2hr 33 minutes, second was 1hr 13 mins and the 3rd one was 35 minutes. I checked my MW notes last time I went! They just passed in a bit of a blurr at the time. So they don't like to hang around :rotfl:
Two have been back to back labours which poses problems in itself, but luckily I have not had issues with giving birth like that yet. I had a ventouse with the first because of it, but managed with my 3rd without help. (Both of the boys that were awkward!)
What did they do last time to help - how did they get your DS out? That is a terrifying thought for me - so glad he arrived safely in the endWere you both ok afterwards?

chornola wow all 3 were quick then! i am wondering about my 3rd being quick aswell as 2nd was 1 hour. my friend had her 3rd in 10mins, she had one contraction then next thing his head was out.. lol
well to be truthful, i dont really remember what happen, i blacked out, i remember pushing and his head came out, then i opened my eyes and my parnter was holding me down 2 ladys had my legs a lady was rubbing my stomach and a lady pulled my child out. we were both ok and i didnt even had one stich , which totally shocked everyone as both his shoulders were stuck.
the lady who pulled my baby out had blood over here face and said i kick her but i really dont rememeber ne thing, i didnt have any drugs either so was completey natural.
the midwife came to my room after and explain what happened and how lucky ds was to not have ne thing wrong with him.
a few days later when the midwife team came round my house, she was like '' oh you was the one that that had SD then, we heard about you having no stiches, they were complety shocked aswell.
so this time ive got to choice a c section or natural birth!!0 -
chonorla and savage, the mw classed me as high risk because I've a history of hypertension (was on meds for this until I first fell pregnant a year ago when GP stopped the meds) and she said, because of my history of miscarriages.
I don't mind seeing the consultant at all, and due to past experiences (in a work capacity) and the fact that at this will be my first my choice is to deliver Pip in hospital so don't mind either if they say I have to if you see what I mean; I'm more curious as to what to expect as I like to be prepared.
(I've been living here 8 years now, but apart from seeing GP twice a year until last Sept and my first pregnancy, I've not seen any other medical professionals in a personal capacity. I am however, very familiar with the SA medical norm and my mom also finds the system here bewildering and somewhat worrying when I report back to her)
wow chonorla, your labours really were quick! and your second one too helen!
Hope that you've had a good day today; on the plus side I get to work on a project at home tomorrow before and after my appt (one of the perks of not working near where I live) so don't have my usual commute0 -
Oh no helen4891 - don't say that! 10 minutes
That could be me! I will traumatise the other 3 kids if they are around when it happens!
I had a dream when I first found out that I was pregnant, that I had the baby while cooking tea. My 3 children were sat at the table and didn't bat an eyelid - i just reached down grabbed the baby and carried on cooking !!!! :rotfl:
How scary - but how amazing no stitches!!! Poor MW tooTell me again why we are having more babies???? Especially with our track records :rotfl:
Saffagal - It is also a chance to discuss any issues that you may have and ask any questions. There is usually a MW present too, so its not too formal. At the end of the day they are just trying to make sure the best is done for you and baby0 -
Ah, I guess the consultant is just there as backup. Midwives are great at babies, but of course aren't doctors and so can't prescribe medicine and suchlike, so it makes sense to have a doctor involved if any other medical concerns (such as hypertension) are around.0
-
savageHK - You are right they are just there to keep an eye on medical conditions that often existed before the pregnancy or issues that they think may effect the pregnancy. My asthma almost disappears when I am pregnant - yet can be quite bad when not pregnant! Strange what pregnancy hormones can do to us!!!!
Well no letter regarding the Triple Test I had so am guessing the risk was low....:)
Hope all you ladies are well!!! XXX
PS Don't want to speak to soon, but I have not been sick today...... (First day in 18 weeks of pregnancy!!!!!) I know there is still time but I have never got to 1pm without a sicky session - so that is a bonus in itself!!!! I still feel sick but that I can manage :T0 -
Hallo ladies
Well, back from the hospital and it wasn't too bad. Had to provide a urine sample, then get my bp measured (which was up; I don't like hospitals when I'm the patient, though this was also the reason for my referral). Saw the consultant who was lovely and prescribed some anti-hypertensives, wanted me to pop into the GP's every other day to get my BP measured - really tricky due to my commute and usual working hours, so explained my job and she agreed I can monitor it myself/at work. I've to report back to her (via email) in a week with the readings and see her again in 2 weeks.
She also requested repeat bloods which I wasn't happy about. Last time I had bloods at the hospital (4 weeks ago) I was left with an enormous painful bruise which is still visible! Had a different HCA today and she managed not to bruise me like that, though I fainted whilst she was taking it - oops!
So for the rest of the afternoon I am going to take it easy.
ps. chonorla... fingers crossed x0 -
Lol Ellie; our service is 90% woman and just a couple of guys - literally. Anything "womanly" and the guys become scarce! Quite funny really
Wow, how did you manage to keep it to yourself that long?
I'm not sure to be honest, i just waited to tell people because i wanted to make sure it was all ok before i did.
I havn't been on here in ages it seems, been very busy with work and getting everything ready for the baby.
Still seems like ages to go but since my cousin had her little boy last weekend everyone's been saying that its me next
Hope everyone's ok!
