Hi all! for the record, we are still here and reading daily updates, but there is too much tiredness over here to do anything. constructive. even baby shopping is a chore.
we are 19 weeks today, and as the list goes, is scan day for us. we have agreed not to find out anything, other than if it is healthy. 21 weeks til we see what colour we will be, hopefully.
take it easy, will let you know how things go. scan is in 1 hour...Having fun trying to save money without going over the top and living on budget food all the time...0 -
Good luck for the scanDS1 born June 2000
Baby Boy due 17th April 20120 -
Good luck for the scan WW2B
*hugs* and good luck to everyone who has clinic/scan appointments.
rjh - I know we must've looked at the Switch - we looked at everything in M&P and the store had their whole range but neither my OH or myself remember it at all. The pramette and sola seem to be the only ones we remember.
If the snow clears my mum and sister are coming down during half term so I'll drag them to Kiddicare for a mooch to try to narrow down our choices then go back with my OH at the weekend and hopefully make a final decision
My avoidance task today (the task I'll probably end up doing to avoid all the things that really need doing) is to put together an excel spreadsheet with everything we want to buy for the baby with quantities to reduce the chance of buying lots of stuff we don't need.
After the generally awful day I had yesterday hopefully today will be a doing day
- does anyone else hope that motherhood will suit them much more than pregnancy seems to?
I mentioned this to my OH who said I was being silly and I'll make a lovely mum - I do love that man0 -
Great idea on the spreadsheet MrsManda
I hope you feel better today. It will all be worth it in the end, as i'm sure your OH would agree. Men can be lovely sometimes can't they

My oh very immature friends said to him at the weekend. Well if u have a girl u can look at all her hot friends when she's older and if u have a boy u can perv over his girlfriends. My oh said " oh no I'll be far too busy looking at my gorgeous wife or at least she will be my wife by then ". Sweet in an odd situationlove you lots like jelly tots0

So far I have suffered bad this pregnancy. 4 weeks well and the rest of it spent with either a darn cold or a sinus infection! The last 3 weeks have been on the well side since my last sinus infection. Well ... now ... I went to bed with a raw throat and still have it today. Oh well here we go again!!
On a more positive note. Tomorrow is visit midwife day. First time at the surgery for me as last time she did a home visit for the booking in appoint. As it was so close to christmas and she was all booked up. Hope to harrass her more on emmas diary/bounty packs. All she gave me was a few leaflets about yoga classes and some other pay for classes. No free books or anything! What should I expect from this appointment? Will hubby get to hear heartbeat? Think that's the only reason he is coming!0 -
Ok, so the scan was a complete waste of time. Baby's heart was still pumping strong so they weren't concerned, but the baby was curled up in a ball, so all we could see was the head, and the rest was a bit too challenging to see. So we have to go back for round 2 on Friday.
As for the shopping list, we were able to acquire a cot, baby bath, car seat, high chair and breast pump/sterilizer from one of my DW's friends who recently gave birth, is relocating to Oz and needed to shift the stuff, 2nd hand, at a good price. As for the other things, we only really need the pram, and then we're sorted for hardware. The only thing we'd then need to worry about are clothes and baby-related items (nappies, wipes) which we're going to leave til nearer the time when we know if it'll be on time or late, and based on size.
We've heard a few stories where peeps have bought newborn clothes or nappies, only for them to be too small because the baby was a week late, and that they need to be in the next size up already... so we've decided to wait til nearer the time, when we know more. There's no hurry, I guess - we'll probably get the smaller things from friends and family when the baby arrives and we know if it's a boy or girl, but as long as we get some things to get us underway then hopefully we'll cope... right?Having fun trying to save money without going over the top and living on budget food all the time...0 -
Oh, and our local mothercare is hosting a mum to be evening in a few weeks, we have a free ticket to go. Maybe your local one will do too. Of course it'll be a sales pitch, but if there are any good deals to be discovered then it's worth losing an evening... right?Having fun trying to save money without going over the top and living on budget food all the time...0

*hugs* hope you feel better soon. How far along are you?
You should've got your first Bounty pack at your booking appointment. It will have included a bounty book with a voucher to pick up the next pack either at Boots or Superdrug. If you don't have the form or have lost it you can sign up to Bounty online and ask them to send you one.
The third Bounty Pack I think you get on the labour ward.
If you want an Emma's Diary pack sign up online and you get a voucher to take to your nearest Argos.
I heard the heart beat at my second midwife appointment but not every midwife will look for it unless you ask them to as it's not an indicator that things are OK.
It was a short appointment - she took my BP, tested my urine for sugar/infection, checked I was happy with my NT results, asked if I had any questions and booked the next appointment.0 -
RebekahR, we heard our baby's heartbeat but only because we were consultant-led and so had an appointment with the consultant. She wanted to hear the heartbeat so we were able to, was a special moment since we'd seen it flashing on the screen but never actually heard it before.... I don't know if all midwives have the equipment to let you listen to the heartbeat as a routine part of the appointment, but I guess you can ask and hope that they will be able to let you listen. Just don't expect to listen to it in case they don't have the right equipment...
Our 2nd midwife appointment is in 4 weeks, will have to see if they have the ability to let us listen. Last time, she was too interested in getting the 101 questions answered...
It could be that she didn't have all the various books to hand, just grabbed the main ones - and knows that you'll be back to see her at her usual venue so that she can give you all the free books then. The Pregnancy book, and the parents guide to money are 2 books we got, make for interesting reading... The latter is somewhat obvious but does confirm what the state will give regarding allowances, financially as well as legally, which is good to know. But we had to pick them up from the maternity unit at hospital, not the midwife...Having fun trying to save money without going over the top and living on budget food all the time...0
