whowants2brich - apparently the baby doesn't respond to light until about 28-29 weeks. i'll be 29 weeks on Friday and all the baby club emails are starting to tell me that baby will now be starting to sense and react to changes in light.

At my second midwife's appt which is scheduled for around 16 weeks (although I had mine at 18), we listened to the baby's heartbeat. This is standard in my area and I guess she'll listen to it every appt from now on. It's lovely although a bit of a panic if she can't find it at first...!

I had a student midwife who couldn't find the heart beat - she really needs to learn to keep a neutral face as watching her get more and more worried would've been really scary if I hadn't felt a kick and heard the 'thump' sound where the kick hit the monitor thing.

    Morning all,
wondered if anyone online at the moment can suggest what I can do to reduce the chances of me fainting/feeling dizzy/wanting to vomit after my blood test at 11am? I've had breakfast and drinks.

I have to have the test every 4 weeks and so far have had to write off the whole day as a loss each time. Not that I get the result before the next one which kind defeats the point of 4 weekly blood tests which is a bit of a sore point. Fortunately I have a GP who is willing to listen to me and take my word for it when I say I need to increase my medication rather than waiting for the results to turn up. It still seems to me that the blood tests are pointless as decisions have to be made without the results because the results take too long.

    *takes a deep breath*

Anyways, blood tests never bothered me prior to pregnancy and my blood pressure isn't any lower than it usually is so I'm at a loss to work out how to stop feeling so rough afterwards.
Hopefully I'll buck the trend this time and it'll be fine but any tips would be welcome :)

Oh dear. It all depends on why you're feeling so rough afterwards. If your blood pressure's OK I fail to see why this would make you poorly (plus they don't take that much). If you're eating and drinking then your blood sugar should be OK.

    Is it anxiety? Squeamishness?

I don't know :( it's never bothered me before and I've had quite a lot of blood tests.
Phlebotomists are really good and get it first time so it's not that it's painful or takes a lot of tries. I'm normally in and out within 5 minutes except when I physically faint rather than just feeling that way.
Hopefully today will be different - positive thinking and all that ;)

MrsManda are you laying down when they do the blood test? I nearly keeled over when I had blood taken for the combined test (the woman couldn't find a vein and just poked around randomly for a minute before I asked her to stop ) . I ask whoever it is to take blood from the back of my hand, and I ask for a butterfly needle, which is much finer than some needles I've seen  Other than that, I just have sweets in my pocket and gobble some down whilst they're still unwrapping the plaster :)

I've been looking at pushchairs too recently, but it gives me a headache. I think we might end up going for the iCandy strawberry (assuming we can get one by June - long waiting list apparently) as it can be folded with the seat still attached and facing in either direction, unlike the others in that sort of price/type bracket that we've been looking at. We have a small hallway so need something that folds and doesn't have lots of bits that have to be stored separately. Thankfully my mum has offered to buy it for us (we'll get the car seat) otherwise we'd have been getting the M&P Sola I think. I definitely don't have £700 to spend on a pushchair :rotfl: Well, should rephrase that as I'm too cheap to spend that, but my mum is happy to splash the cash so I'm letting her. First grandchild and all that :p

    Hi Beccad,
I'm usually reclined rather than lying flat (lying flat makes me dizzy anyway :p) and they use quite a small needle to take it out of my elbow. Has to be a fine needle because my veins are terrible and taking it out of my hands is practically impossible whereas they can usually get blood out of my elbow - got lots of little scar marks as everyone seems to be only capable of taking blood out of the one vein.
Didn't pass out today :) Though was shaking when I got home so had some chocolate and a drink incase it was blood sugar/some form of shock/anxiety thing. Lay down because the shaking got to the stage i couldn't stand properly so curled up in bed for 2 hours until it stopped.
    Feeling much better now :)

Good luck with the pushchair buying, it's driving me slowly up the wall. Hopefully go to Kiddicare this weekend after our visitors have gone or next weekend and have a good go at making a decision :)

    Last night I discovered:

I shouldn't eat Haagen Daz Cookies and Cream ice cream 2 hours before going to bed.

Baby was very excitable, didn't settle for ages and this morning seems much more active than he has ever been.

Thinking about it, it could be that he didn't settle all night - I was exhausted so did fall asleep while he was still kicking.

Hope everyone's doing well, 1 more sleep Triangle ;)
