RJH, your post made me laugh... my DH is the same, we were at Bluewater at the weekend in Boots, and he saw a pram for £199 and remarked how ridiculously and unnecessarily expensive it was... Little does he know the one I have my eye on is about £500! (well we do have a small car and live near the country). He's away for 2 weeks at the start of May, so may just have to go on a little spending spree then
Otherwise if it's up to him we'd probably end up with the baby having to sleep in a cardboard box that can be strapped on a skateboard for transportation!!
Happy monday everyone, and welcome Betty, Silly Moo, and Becca xx0 -
Hi all,
Welcome to al the newbies!
I've had quite a busy baby weekend.
Mum, sis and I went out looking at prams. I had my eye on the mothercare My3 and the M&P Zoom. I wanted to check them out.
The guy in mothercare showed us the My3 but i was a little disappointed. The chassis was heavy and it's kinda big when folded up. He asked me what my needs for the pram/travel system are. So I told him.- multi terrain (we go walking in the country with doggy)
- travel system
- parent/outward facing
- folds small (i've got a tiny boot)
- light
We went to M&P to look at the zoom and it pales in comparison to the bugaboo. I dunno what to do!!!
Have any of you decided on a pram yet? Do you know of a good alternative to the Bugaboo?
Do you know of any websites that you can tell your requirements and they will match you with a pram?

Had my second scan today (NT one as too early last time), all going well. Feel almost back to normal now, not as tired, nauseous or bloated as I have been which is all good.
DD is wandering around in her dressing gown now, not sure if she's cold or a bit tired! Lots of snow here (Kings Lynn) but roads OK, just going to mooch around today as waiting for Tesco delivery (they came while I was upstairs and didn't hear them so they left a card) and British Gas to look at my cavity wwall insulation.
Hope everyone else is OK, its really quiet on this board!

MrsExcited, we went to Mothercare and M&P at the weekend looking at prams as well. I feel like I'm going slightly loopy with all the choice. Wasn't impressed with anything we saw in Mothercare - I found the My3 and My4 too difficult to handle/fold up myself and my OH thought everything else we saw was either too clunky, not made well enough for the price or the adjustability of the handles wasn't good enough - there's over a foot different in height between me and him.
Quite liked the Pramette in M&P - OH was impressed with the engineeringbut looking at reviews when we got home alot of people seem to complain that their baby outgrew the pram setup within 6 months plus it's not waterproof and takes a long time to dry if it gets wet
Had a look at a couple of Graco prams in Toys R Us which I really liked but the 'adjustable' handles only moved about an inch which meant it was great for me but my OH had to bend over to push it.
Of the prams we've seen so far the Pramette and Sola are the only 2 we're vaguely happy with in terms of how they feel and their price. Now we've got a better understanding of what we like we're going to take a trip to Kiddicare in a couple of weekends time and spend a few hours exploring their range. Hopefully we'll come to a conclusion
Haven't found a good website which will match you with a pram, if you find one please let me know
One question we haven't answered yet is whether we're looking for a pram which will last upto 15 months then buy a cheap light stroller.
Or looking to spend more and get a pram which is suitable upto 4,5,6 years and can convert to allow a toddler and baby.0 -
Welcome to all the newbies.
So many people seem to be getting ready and buying lots of things but is anyone else putting off buying baby things?
We're excited about having a baby and know we've got a lot to sort out but at the moment it seems too far in the future to bother buying lots of stuff. My OH is studying for major exams (due the same time as baby) while working FT and I'm trying to get my head around my own studies at the same time as feeling generally unwell and exhausted all the time due to medication and pregnancy not mixing well, so baby spending isn't really something high on our list of things at the moment.
Part of me thinks this is terrible and I should be hunting bargains and stocking the cupboards whereas the rest of me doesn't see the point as we've got 4 months. - It's very unlike me as I usually love lists, ticking things off and being prepared for anything months in advance.
It possibly doesn't help that we've not decided where we're having the nursery so there's nowhere specific we need to prepare and get ready.
The one thing we have done in preparation is as of this weekend my OH and I have swapped sides of the bed. Sounds a small thing and it is really but we've been sharing a bed for ~8 years and have always slept on the same side. However swapping over means I'm now on the side closest to where the baby will be for the first few months while he shares a room with us so I don't have to walk around the bed to get to him when he needs feeding. And means I'm next to the door so when baby starts bladder bouncing I can get to the bathroom easier. Hopefully this will mean that my OH gets disturbed less0 -

I've not bought a thing, and not thought about it beyond '...clothes... clothes would be good... maybe those babygro things'."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
We've agreed not to think about buying anything until after the 20 week scan (next Thursday) and then probably head to a department store to make a big list of what we would like to buy so we can keep an eye for offers etc or until we're further along. Quite a few friends say they have bits and bobs that they would like to give us which is fantastic, and we wouldn't want to double up if we can help it.
And I think it's also a way of DH keeping me in check as I can see myself getting very carried away with online shopping! One slight worry is that our poor neighbours will be inundated with packages for us if they arrive when we aren't at home.
One thing we have sorted is the rocking crib for our bedroom (the one that I had when I was a baby!) has come out of my parent's loft, so DH is going to have a look at that and see if it needs varnishing etc. It will need a new matress though of course!

What about the mamas and papas switch. It is expensive but meets ur needs. The problem I had was me and oh are tall and the bugaboo was too low for us. I also wasn't impressed with mothercare. They fold up huge and with a lot of effort.
With regards to buying stuff I'm a full time student and single parent at minute. Oh doesn't live with us. I obviously have no income so bargain hunting when I find stuff is a must! I also have exams coming up next few months and an going to have time for nothing!love you lots like jelly tots0 -
I am 21 + 5 and have got loads but there is sill loads to go! I just get some per shopping trip now ( today got sudacream and cotton wool ) and have lots of hand-me-downs and home made stuff.
I find it better financially to get a few bits at a time as I don't notice the difference to my bill and have got stuff in sale/with vouchers etc
