Hello everyone... we had our private scan today after a not so nice experience at the hospital on monday. We spent nearly 45 minutes looking at our baby, it was amazing. the sonographer (she is also a midwife) checked everything over, and it's all looking lovely and healthy.

We had decided on the names even before i was pregnant so...

    meet baby Isabel Helen! :)

Hi ladies, I've finished for Christmas now hurrah!
We still don't have a tree up, a tidy house or half the presents sorted as work has been manic. I've also been getting myself worked up about how much we have to sort out before our little ladies arrival so glad of the week and a bit off to get some planning done!

I've been genning up on maternity leave/pay etc and trying to get to grips with knowing my rights, just wondered if you guys have any idea how many weeks you'll be when you plan to go on maternity leave?

Hi Amy.. i worked on the principle that i wanted to maximise my time post baby due to limited money, so wanted to finish as late as possible- which depends really what kind of job one does.
I actually start my Mat leave on the 27th Dec, and Bean is due on the 30th Dec ! Cutting it a bit fine i know :p. But with xmas, i actually finish work properly tomorrow (i'm 39w today!), and get the bank holidays as full paid days off.
I would say though, that my bosses have been great, and i physically wouldnt have been able to carry on commuting and working in the office these past weeks. I had 27 days leave hoarded, which i was willing to use to have the whole of December off if necessary, but i asked my bosses if instead, i could work at home on email, and phone, so they had the benefit of me for longer, and they agreed. Which mean that effectively i stopped going in to the office at around 35weeks, which turned out to be about right in terms of copability.

It also means i didnt need to use the 27 days leave, which i am now able to take at the end of my mat leave, before i return to work, so that i get some more money coming in sooner- i'll be taking 5 months mat + 1 month paid leave. That still leaves enough days of this years leave, plus the bank holidays and normal leave accumulated whilst on mat leave, for me to work 4 days a week for the first 2 months, but using leave, so i get full pay.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi ladies.

I will be leaving work 4 weeks before by due date. I know alot of people work until closer than that but I'm very lucky that i'm not going to be coming back to work so a couple of extra weeks won't make much difference to me! I've just had my councelling for redundancy which i will get when I go on maternity leave so that will help out with the money situation for a bit longer than just maternity pay! It'll be strange be unemployed, I've always had a job and earned my own money since I was 13.....17 years ago!!

Baby was kicking LOADS yesterday and must have moved as they have gone from being really low down kicks to halfway up my bump. Must have been getting punched too as was getting it in 2 different places that were too far apart to both be feet!

Morning everyone! I've reached v day! wow that has gone quick... still not feeling much in my tummy, just the odd twitch which has me worrying from time to time and my belly isn't very big either, some of my work colleagues still don't know I'm expecting! have a midwife appt next week so will see what she says, otherwise nothing else to worry about :o)

as for maternity, well pregnancy going problem free so I don't intend on going on leave until close to my due date but I will have to take my annual leave off before ido go cos I won't be returning during this years entitlement so if I don't use them, I will lose them. I still have 3 weeks of annual leave to take, plus the bank holidays so 4 weeks in total to take before I take maternity. hope that makes sense!

will be moving onto the superfast next thread but rest assured I will be still lurking!

    Gops xx

  • Lovely scan picture Alizee and congrats on V day Goppers, its all going so quickly now!!

I am leaving on Friday 13th Apirl!! My due date is 25th so that gives me almost 2 weeks before baby is supposed to arrive. I will then return to work full time on 15th October and my OH will take the remaining 13 weeks that are paid.

Got to give my hire car back today and still not had a settlement figure from the other persons insurance company yet so going to have to have a rant at the in a minute, oh and picked up a stinking cold so not a happy bunny at the moment :(

I am hoping to finish work by April 1st and take my 6 weeks annual leave to start with. I will be about 30 weeks then. My due date is June 13th, and in this case I would be starting maternity leave at 36 weeks. However, I am expecting twins, and it is unlikely I will be allowed to go past 38 weeks. Also, reading on the forums about ladies not being able to drive later in the pregnancy, I wouldn't be able to get to work anyway or to sit at my desk and work comfortably (ok, I could take a bus, but that would add another half an hour or more to my journey each way depending on timetables, and it is already 1h15mmin from door to door!)

Anyone has a low blood pressure? I had my first nose bleed this morning, that took nearly an hour to stop completely, and when I checked my blood pressure it was about 95/55. I am seeing consultant in two weeks, so will see what she says, but the way I feel, I really wish I was signed off work for a week or two - I have no energy, can't last 8 hours without sleep (dropped off yesterday afternoon for 3.5 hours, after full night sleep before, full night sleep tonight and I could still sleep -however, need to work!), have a permanent friend in form of a headache and my concentration is at all time low.

  • Congrats on v day goppers - it does go quick :)

    Glad all is problem free.

In the next couple of weeks you will start to feel loads of movement - is this your first? I am 26 weeks with second and can feel so much every day.

I had a dream last night that at the 4d scan (a week today), baby was led like a typical man sits and could see everything lol, so this morning I am convinced we are having a boy, although have not found out.....

Hi gin, I have low blood pressure too - the headaches are dizzyness are immense some days - i am always asleep by 9pm on the settee.....my highest reading was......(runs for maternity notes) 86/60. I went to the docs last week as felt like i was starting with sinusitis as my face was popping and the floor moving, they said it was just catarrh and to rest plenty.

I am finishing work on 9th March and due 29th March....
