  • Hi everyone, hope you all had a nice weekend.

Sorry to hear you had a seizure MrsManda, I'm sure baby will be fine, try and relax and look forward to seeing him/her next year :)

Well, my car has been written off, just waiting to see what silly amount they are going to try and palm me off with. Really annoyed that its happened but extremely thankful it was parked and empty at the time. Not sure what to get now, was thinking a Focus, but OH has a 3 door BMW 123 so might be better off with me getting something like a Picasso??

We had the first lot of our blood results back this morning and they were fine so baby doesnt have an infection, just the CF ones to go now in about 2 weeks time - fingers crossed!!

Had my standard midwife appointment today and heard babies heartbeat again which was fab, so much easier to find than last time and sounds nice and strong. We have been enjoying watching baby making my tummy move over the weekend :)

Ahhh. My sympathies. I had a car written off last year. Insurers can be reet boogers. My advice is to do as much research in advance as you can yourself with respect to values for cars like you. If you sound like you know what you are talking about value wise from the off, they are less likely to rip you off. I spent 3 weeks finding cars the same age, mileage and model as mine, and getting a range of values. So when they came back with a silly low offer, based on a car a year older, i could come straight back at them.
Generally you wont get much added to the value for extras, so mileage, age, reg number, engine and model are the main things to look for as comparisons, from a dealer, not private, and should really be within 50-60 miles, not available at the opposite end of the country.

I have a question for you all - how did people react when you told them your news?

I ask because this weekend and last weekend we told our families. OH was very underwhelmed by his family's response - I think he was hoping for a big hug and slap on the back from them all but got more of an 'oh - that's good news'. They did warm up through the day but I think he's a bit upset by it.

I was really disappointed by my mum's response - she said "oh!!!!"

    Long pause.

I said what do you mean by that - she said "well you have just started college".

I told her that my course was only a 10 week course (which I have now completed) and would be done by xmas.

She said - "well if that's what you want".

I wouldn't mind but I am 31 and living with my partner for 3 years!!!

How cute - you are very small in frame. Your bump looks perfect :)
  • Only 5'1" :o will probably look quite funny towards the end, especially as I wont be able to wear my usual 5/6 inch heels lol!

Any more bump pics ladies? Yours looks good Lisa.

MW, I was all excited when we told my parents, they had just asked us if we wanted to go to Cornwall with them in June next year and I said we wont be able to come and my Mum said whys that then with a big grin on her face - they had guessed!!! OH's Mum was teary bless her :) she has had an awful year having had breast and lymph cancer for the second time in ten years (now had ops, chemo etc and hopefully all ok) so think it was nice for her to get some good news for a change - well nice for us all after the shock of that at the begining of last year.

Thanks for the advice re the car Kira, apparently they will just send the cheque out and dont even bother telling me so have printed off ads from Autotrader and and ready to commence battle - god help them against a hormonal woman!!

Thats such a cute bump Laura, thank you for sharing a pic :)

I need to get a bit more technical as I have no idea how to do that!

I hope you get a reasonable settlement for you car. Insurance companies can be very stingy but Im sure if you put a well reasoned argument they will make a reasonable offer eventually.

Hubby saw bump move last night for the first time. He said he saw something pop out for a second too (maybe a foot we think) but it was at the bottom of the bump so I couldnt see. I ve definitely grown some more this week! By the time I go home for Christmas next week I wont have seen my parents for 5 weeks so I think they will be surprirsed how big bump is now. Its lovely. I love looking properly pregnant ans opposed to just like I ve eaten too much! :)

Well, that would be very naughty of them ;)- you should be able to ring and say you would like to be informed of the settlement BEFORE they process it, and that this should go on your file.
If they DID happen just to send you a cheque, and you are unhappy with the amount DONT CASH IT! Not even if they say "oh, take it as a down payment, and we will discuss any further amount". They do often try that one but once you cash it, it is taken as acceptance.

If you dont agree the amount is fair, contact them asap, recorded mail, and say you refuse the settlement figure and do not consider receipt of the cheque to be final. Then give the reasons, with your evidence. Do it all in writing so you have proof. By all means call them as well, but have the written stuff too! Be prepared for them to "blackmail" you with threats that the figure might go down if you fight as they are being "generous" now. They may also try and pressure you to accept by stalling the process, so you are desparate for the settlement money to get your new vehicle and accept their offers. Luckily my DH lent me the deposit money to get my new car, so i told them i would argue as long as needed- which was a good thing as it took them 3 months to give me the right settlement figure!
Worth having a look at some other places as well as autotrader, just so you can demonstrate you have been thorough- as it was, i found 5 cars equivalent to mine, when they couldnt find ANY, and they had to agree my figure in the end! It was stressful, but kinda fun in a warped stubborn woman way!

Ok. lecture over. :D If you need a hand arguing the toss with them, or a sounding board on their figures, feel free to PM me.

  • Thanks Kira :0) I definately wont cash the cheque till hey send me one I am happy with, luckily OH and I work round the corner from each other so only use his car really. I wont need another one till baby comes next year.

Charlie, it took me ages to figure out how to do it too, i set up an account with Photobucket - it is free - then went to the insert image button on my post and copied and paste the link from the Photobucket site.

It is lovely to actually look properly pregnant isn't it, amkes it feel more real :0) x
