I have the Down's (NT) scan on NHS on Wednesday, when I am 12w+6, so will see what babies will measure then. I am not sure how the bloods will work, as for twins they cannot get results from mothers blood (since the hormones are double, it will come up as high risk anyway!).

Hi congratulations on having twins - my sister was most upset to find out that I was only having one (why she thought it'd be twins is beyond me as there's no family history and no IVF).

According to the NHS website the combined screening test of nuchal translucency and blood test can be used for multiple pregnancies whereas the 16 weeks serum screening test cannot. Though I haven't a clue how it works.

Yes, we are having the NT. However, the blood test part, according to the doctor at the clinic, is not that useful, as the chemicals in the mother's blood are likely to be much higher than for singleton pregnancy, so indicating the high risk. But - we will see!

I was 'told' by grandma and my mum that I will be having twins, as my grandma had twins, and her mum had twins, and it skipped generation (my mum and her sister). However, no one predicted that it will be because of IVF, and not just because the nature was generous with me.

I am still very tired, and and can't wait for that boost of energy - I am so bad today, I have actually took sick leave. Will be back at work tomorrow, can't have time off really at the moment...

    Hello all,
of those of you who've had their 12 week 'dating' scan how many have had their EDD changed? If it was changed, was it changed by much?

Also if you had nuchal translucency screening test for Down's Syndrome at this scan how long did it take to get the results? Do they give you an idea while you're still in the scan room or do you have to wait until the official results?

I've got my scan tomorrow (excited!) so will I guess find out the answers to my questions in relation to my baby but I wondered what everyone else's experiences have been.

Due date got changed by three days at the 12 week scan (however I think the initial due date hadn't factored in the leap year next year anyway). As for the Downs test - I asked the nuchal measurement while in the scan room and at what point my particular hospital regarded it as cause for concern (to give myself a mental guide of if I needed to prepare to worry - even though I knew I wouldn't get the definitive answer until it was all combined with the bloods) and knew that that had come out with no cause to worry - so wasn't expecting a phonecall or anything - results came within a couple of weeks 1 in 1500 low risk.

Dizzi, I did exactly the smae, asked what the measurement was and compared it the the 'normal' range and mine was absolutely fine.......my risk factor still came back as 1 in 10 very high risk though!! So I'm living proof that the measurement alone means nothing!

My area doesnt offer the Nuchal Fold test at all - i didnt know this before hand and was a bit disappointed not to have it done. (my date moved 3 days from my dates and 5 days from the midwifes date) My midwife dated me later than I thought and my edd from scan puts me earlier than I thought.(sods law though that the 2nd cycle of us ntnp and putting the brakes on ttc is when we catch the egg isnt it!) And getting a bfp 9 days after being proposed to and having to not order my lovely gorgeous custom made ring sort of sums up my life :rotfl:

Had the Quad test done at 16 weeks and 1 day and well im 23 and 5 and still havent had the results :s
We were only getting the tests to give us a fair indication of what to expect anyway - i personally would rather know the chance and prepare myself for the worst scenario everytime.

Note to myself - dont poke my belly button to check if its turning into an outtie when the baby is having a quiet night as i only regretted it after poking said belly button resulted in a good hours worth of angry kicks and elbows :rotfl:

Hi MrsManda, my date was brought forward by 4 days at my 12 week scan. The NT measurement alone doesn't tell you anything, it has to be combined with your age and the foetal age plus a couple of other things and then also the blood test results if your hospital does the full combined screening so they won't tell you anything there and then. If you're high risk you'll find out really quickly, I was and got a phonecall on the Thursday after having my scan and bloods done late on the Monday afternoon. Otherwise you get a letter which I believe they say takes about 2 weeks usually......so no news is good news!!

I think the bloods at 16 weeks are if they do it solely from that and do not do the nuchal translucency measurements if I remember right!

We pay £3 each for piccies and so far I've only been offered one pic, I'd really like 3 this time so we can give one each to both sets of parents but they don't seem to do that here. I've only been offered a pic at my 7 and 12 week scans too, at the 'extra' ones I've had it hasn't been mentioned.

DH and I went for a lovely walk yesterday, it was about 6 miles and quite hilly in places and I managed fine. i thought I might struggle and be in a bit of pain afterwards but I wasn't bad at all! We're heading to Edinburgh tomorrow for my birthday treat for a few days so it put my mind at rest that I will hopefully be able to cope with quite a bit of walking about without getting too uncomfortable, will just have to get DH to carry the bags as it seems to be walking whilst carrying things that does my back in!! I'm hoping while we're there we'll see some baby shops as I'd like DH to choose something for the baby. he helped me decide which bedding to go for (not bought it yet though) but I'd like him to pick a toy maybe and something for it to wear to try and get him a bit more involved.

Those of you who have started feeling kicks, isn't it weird how one minute you've never felt it, then you feel an odd one or 2 and then all of a sudden you feel it quite alot! I only felt my first kicks on Thursday but I get quite a few now.

    Hi Lisa,

    Hope you are ok?

Just wanted to say, you have to ask at our hospital for multiple pictures, and then pay at the token meter (only accepts £1 coins). We got 6 pictures last time, as lots of family wanted them. We asked the songrapher and then he sorted them ready for us! x x

Scan photos - ours cost £2 each at both the 12 and 20 week scans. Shovel the pennies in a machine and get a ticket for each pic.
Weve had 8 copies each time, theyve just said how many copies do you want and weve said and theyve printed them out, only get one wallet for them though :S oh and we got a free one at 12 weeks because baby was waving and you can see actual finger bones which is very cool.

Oooh thanks snoopy, I'll ask this time then.

I'm pretty good so far, how are you? Excited about your scan? Hope you've got settled into the new house now. We'll have to meet up for that coffee sometime although I guess after xmas might be a good idea now!!
  • Hi everyone,

Hello to all the newbies, it's exciting isn't it!

Well there are three of us with 20 week scans this week aren't there? Good luck to the others, hope it is magical.

Had a weird couple of weeks really with the moves, and the doc signed me off for a week cause my blood pressure was a bit on the high side, was starting to feel better, went back today to get signed back to work and blood pressure is no better, so have another week off work! It is really nice to be at home, and doing some relaxing, but I just hope work are not too grumpy!

On the baby front, feeling lots of movement but no proper kicks yet, really looking forward to that though, letting hubby feel it too - will hopefully make him feel more part of it. Belly is growing steadily, it is lovely, but am a little self conscious with being a bigger lady, I would like to look pregnant, but just feel like people don't notice, and just think it is normal fat. Having said that, I am at the minute still weighing less than I did when I found out I was pregnant, infact I weigh 9lb less!! Mental note to self, am going to ask the midwife about it next time I see her.

20 week scan is on Thursday afternoon and we are so so so excited, more so than the 12 week scan, because then I was just nervous about everything being ok, but now I can feel bubba moving we are just excited to see him/her again. And we are going to hopefully find out what team we are on, I just hope the little tike behaves for the scan!!

Ayway enough babbling, apart from to say that after Thursday we hopefully can pick an appropriate colour to decorate the nursery, and we are very very excited about that!!! x x x x
