Sorry to ask a dumb question but what is a GTT? I've not heard of this before and I don't think my midwife has mentioned it!

Feeling a little out of sorts tonight, had my flu jab on Saturday and haven't felt to great since. My tum feels a little dodgy, I have a headache and just feel exhausted. Probably just a coincidence but I do like to worry! How are you ladies coping that work full time? I'm starting to feel quite tired now, my hubby works away so its just me, working full time, running the house and taking care of my 3 large beasts (dogs!!)

I work in a school so can't use annual leave like you ladies, I will be off for 2 weeks at Xmas, then working right up to my due date or when I give birth, which ever is sooner!!

GTT = Glucose tolerance test. It is to test for gestational diabetes and involves drinking a very sweet solution, and then having a blood test. If noone has mentioned it, then dont fret, they dont make everyone do it, older mothers, people with history of diabetes in the family or previous pregnancies, and in some areas, mothers with higher BMI (the cut off point varies by area so its not nec that all higher BMI will do it).

Thanks for that info, I don't fit into any of those catergories so must be why my midwife hasn't mentioned it.

No prob hon. They do test for sugar in your wee when you do your regular samples for the midwife. If they do find sugar during one of these routine samples, then they may refer you for a GTT as well. Otherwise, no need to even think about it! :)

How high is your BMI Kira? From your wedding pictures you do not look like you have a high BMI. Mines is 33 and I haven't been referred for a GTT, I'm not complaining as I'm like a pin cushion as it is with other things, but also worries me incase I should be needing one and don't get it :( Baby was measuring almost 2 weeks ahead at my 20 week scan :o

Thats very sweet of you Gilly! All i can say is, good corset, good dress and pre wedding diet! My BMI is definately a fair bit higher than yours hence my GTT (although i got the all clear today!). The cut off really does vary alot by area, so i'm sure they would have booked you for one if you needed it. If GD was causing the big baby, then they SHOULD have picked up sugar in your wee by now, which would have triggered them to order a GTT. Just make sure you keep doing the wee samples, and if you need a GTT, you will get one!

Yeah my wee samples have been fine, got the self test sticks given to me by the doctor too, so I've been using them weekly, even though I'm not supposed to until 26 weeks! Had a trace of protein a few weeks ago, but I knew it was just because I was dehydrated, trying to down pints of water in the morning, isn't easy.

I do have an appointment at the hospital at 28/30 weeks, can't remember which, my brain is like a sieve, but there has been no mention of fasting etc so I'm assuming it's just for bloods (yay, more) etc.

Well when I get married I'll have to invest in a very good corset I think, if only to hold my boobs up, they're definitely getting saggier every day :( pregnancy isn't fair on some body parts.

Sieve brain or not, you would know if they were doing the GTT as there are very specific rules and timings (although different areas use slightly different tests). The 28 week appointment is generally a repeat of the main bloods they did at your booking in bloods, along with checking height of fundus, feeling for position of baby etc.

I'm a big corset fan anyway, wedding or no wedding. I have 4! For me, its like wearing a big hug, so wearing one for my wedding was never in doubt, along with a corset back dress! I would say tho' that corsets arent always ideal for holding up boobs- much better for defining waists. Corsets tend to give serving wench shaped boobs, which doesnt nec give the right look for a wedding dress. Sometimes a good strapless bra, worn with an underbust corset does the job alot better.

I may have to resort to surgery :( ha, I'm hoping it's just because I'm wearing non wired bras I'm noticing it more, fingers crossed.

That's fine then, we'l see how it goes, my booking bloods was horrible, the midwife couldn't get a vein at all and when she did it was agony, the blood trickled out and took forever. Got blood done recently and the midwife was great, didn't even feel it. Weird how 2 people can be totally different.
