    Hope everyone's feeling well.

Kira, I know people always say 'pregnancy isn't an illness', but if you keep throwing up and feel totally rough, in my book you are ill even if you happen to be pregnant too. I have taken today off sick as barely slept, threw up during night and before bed and just don't feel capable of doing my job as I should (teacher of 25 8 year olds). I have struggled in so many days and thrown up anything up to 12 times during the workday and lay down on the cushions in my reading corner for 20 mins at lunchtimes to get me through the afternoon, so I'm trying not to feel guilty, so I know how you feel. Just take the time off if you feel unable to cope.

This might sound silly to some, but I really am starting to feel anxious about my Down't result coming back as 1 in 840. At first I though it sounded ok (I'm 31 BTW), but it seems as though most people on pregnancy forums get results of 1 in several thousand, like Kira's. My nuchal measurement was 1.9mm, I'm starting to worry that as mine seems higher risk than most people's maybe it does either have Down's or some other Chromosomal condition :( Has anyone on here had a similar result to mine?

Thanks for the words of support Summerday. I know inside you are right, but i cant help feeling i should be able to just "pull myself together" and get on with it. I am really looking forward to a rest though, with no worrying about having to get up and out even when feeling ill. I went to bed at 9.30 last night. Got up at 8 today to go to docs, and lasted till 10.30, when i went back to bed for a nap- only woke up just now at 1.30 when a pneumatic drill started up outside!

I'm sorry if i made you and pebblespop feel bad about your results:(. I was quite prepared for a lower score as i've heard a reasonable number get around the 800-1000's. I checked my NT measurement out before i got the combined result and everything i found says anything under 2.0 is absolutely within normal range, so a 1.9 is under that. Did the MW ask you if you had been taking folic acid before/during pregnancy? I started about 6 months before TTC, and crried on, and i think from what she told me, they add that into your calculation of risk level.

I am 31 and mine came back 1 in 10,000 ( i wasnt going to post because i didnt want to make you more worried) it say that the result is estimated from maternal age, nt, serum PAPP-A and b-HCG i have no idea what all that means?

    my NT measurement was 1.4

it says on my letter if you are worried contact your midwife. maybe give them a ring and ask what it means

i am going to ask them next week after my 20 week scan.

i am sure if there was something to be concerned about they would be doing more tests.

going to try and not worry about it.

I never had any stats back - just a letter that said I was low risk - not sure whether thats 1 in 18000 or 1 in 800! (Didn't have the nuchal fold test done as I didn't feel it was necessary even though we don't know OH's family history)

Hello all, I've been without internet for a few weeks so just popping in to catch up with everyone, hope you're all ok :) I had my dating scan yesterday, thought it was late enough as I thought I was at 16+2, turns out I'm actually about 18 weeks gone  So I have to go back in two weeks for my anomaly scan. This moves my EDD from Dec 8th to Nov 25th! Thankfully though everything is ok with flumpy, heart ticking away nicely, could see the spine and the little fingers and toes :D It was a little bit weird though because up until now it didn't seem real, I was honestly half expecting there to be nothing in there and for them to send me home and everything to go back to normal :o When it came up on the screen I was like 'oh my god, there's actually a BABY in there!' It all seems so very real now, but very exciting too :)
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important

Can anyone more in the know explain my Nuchal results?
    Nuchal Translucency - 2.30mm

    .......................Trisomy 21 Trisomy 18 Trisomy 13
    Background Risk 1 : 1358 ..1: 16027 ....1: 37729
    Adjusted Risk.... 1 : 1796 ..1: 313623.. 1: 151118

I've looked up that 21 is Downs, and 18&13 are other chromosonal disorders, (edwards syndrome?) where the baby is unlikely to survive a few days.
Is the background risk my age, ethnicity etc then adjusted is adding scan results & bloods? I can see 18&13 are good odds, but 21 (Downs) is alot higher risk. Letter says overall I'm low risk, I'm 24 so that should help, but just would like anymore information people have to understand!

    Thanks!

  • Trisomy 18 is Edwards' Syndrome, and Trisomy 13 is Patau Syndrome.

I haven't had my results yet, but from what I understand anything over 800 is considered low risk. So your results would seem fine. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along soon to confirm or dispute this.

    Hi all,

    My NT results are:

    NT length - 1.65mm
    Trisomy 21 - background risk 1 in 546, adjusted risk 1 in 1401
    Trisomy 18 - background risk 1 in 1301, adjusted risk 1 in 4903
    Trisomy 13 - background risk 1 in 4091, adjusted risk 1 in 14527

My results letter says that under 1 in 300 is considered low risk for DS.

My GP also said the cvs/amnio tests carry about a 1 in 400 risk of resulting in miscarriage, so she doesn't recommend the tests unless your odds are well under that.

The way I'm looking at it is if you're going to be that "1" it doesn't matter about the numbers/chances/risk... My numbers aren't as unrisky as some, but I'm not going to get worried or stressed about it now.... I'm fairly confident we'll all be fine ladies looking at the numbers you've all posted so far.

If I've learnt anything recently it's that life doesn't always give you what you want but does gives you what you need. There is a lovely blog by a mum of a DS baby in the US. The birth story made me weep but reading through her blog has given me some perspective on DS and I truly feel that is that is going to the hand I'm dealt, so be it.

If you want to read, here is the link: Www.kellehampton.com/2010/01/nella-cordelia-birth-story.html but get some tissues ready! I'd recommend reading other entries on the blog (ie not just the birth story) to get a feel for this family's life in general.
