Ah, poor you Pigpen. It must be much harder for you as at 25 weeks you'll have a much bigger bump than I do at 15 weeks tomorrow (to be honest I don't have a proper bump, just my usual jelly belly posing as one!) and this heat must be hard to cope with.

Totally agree about it would be better for babies to be delivered by Mr Stork, all clean and perfect!

I hope that you'll find it easier when baby arrives, as you're feeling mixed feelings about it. Isn't life ironic, though, I cam off the pill in Dec 2009 to TTC, didn't manage to until April 2010, which I then mc'd, tried again straight away and it took me all these months to get pg again. I'm so jealous of women like you who conceive so easily, though for you with plenaty of kids already I'm sure it feels like anything but lucky. Life's just strange how things work out, isn't it?

I was told twice I woud never have children... as a girl when I had pelvic inflammatory disease and again when I was told I was menopausal at 32..

I may conceive fairly easily but I have had 7 miscarriages as well.. so almost half of my pregnancies ended in m/c. I was also referred for secondary infertility after DS1.. It took me 2 years to conceive DS1 and it was 2 years after his birth before I conceived number 2. so it hasn't all been plain sailing, I've also had all of them but DS1 early... so we had the delight of SCBU as well.. as a result several of them have disabilities.. not severe really but enough to restrict daily activities.

I have been immense early on with all of mine, I think I have taken this one harder as it was not only unplanned, I wasn't menstruating, I had asked twice for contraception and was also refused a termination.. OH has taken it really hard too and hasn't been supportive at all. :(

I know in many ways I am blessed but that just adds to my misery.. lol. You can never win can you?

  • BM sorry to hear you're having such a difficult time with health care :(

I saw the midwife today and heard the baby's heart for the first time :D

We also went to visit the second of the hospitals available to us to give birth in and have made a decision on where we want to go :D

    Pigpen hun I've pm'd you.

Wonderwomble- are we definitely entitled to choose which hospital we give birth in? I would much prefer one about 40 mins from where we live rather than the local one, it's much smaller and has a more personal feel to it, but felt my midwife really tried to put me off when I mentioned a preference for the other one.

Hi, I know your Qu was to WW, and not me, but yes you can ask for which hospital you prefer - i didnt want to go to any of the three nearest to me, and asked my GP to refer me to one about 90mins away from me as i was prepared to travel further for a hospital i felt i could trust and feel safe putting myself in their care. Of course, some hospitals give preference to "in area" patients, so there is no absolute guarantee you would be accepted by the one you asked for. I did call the hospital in question, to ask if they would accept out of area, before i asked for the referal, just to be sure. I won't fib, it is a bit of a schlep for all the appointments, but i still think it was worth it. And as a first timer, with no family history of quick babies, i strongly suspect i'm not going to be having a 5 minute labour which would make the trip there difficult!

If you want to request a different hospital, give them a ring for a chat and see what they say. If they are happy to accept the referal, then your MW or GP shouldnt have any reason to say no.

I requested one an hour away for the last baby and the mw and dr said yeah no problem and simply didn't put the referral through.. then lied and told me they had.

You are definately allowed to choose your hospital (within reasonable distance), as you are for any treatment or procedure, providing they meet your needs. I live near 3 maternity hospitals. My first preference is 10 minutes drive away but is midwife led and because I may need a section I cannot go there, but I can have all my ante natal and post natal care there. The other 2 hospitals are about 20 mins drive away, so we visited each to see which one we preferred. Following the birth I can transfer to my local hospital if I want.

My midwife kept trying to tell me that the hospital I don;t want to go to is a great hospital but I won't be swayed. If you make your decision early enough you should get a referral no problem. Don't wait until the last minute so that you have time to chase it up if the referral doesn't go through for any reason.

Unless you're going in for an planned c-section I know I wouldn't be wanting to sit in a car in the middle of labour for too long (with the possibility of roadworks/closed roads & rush hour traffic)!

I've opted for our major hospital about 20 minutes away (if OH puts his foot down) - seeing as I already can't sit still in the car for that long without being very uncomfortable I'm certainly not going to my original choice (before we moved house) over an hour away!

Hi all, had my specialist appointment yesturday and pleased to say it went much better than the midwife appt. There were three specialists in the room answering all my questions and they will now personally do my scans from now on which will be every two weeks. The twins look good and are growing well. All going to plan they will be born on 23rd November 3 days before my 29th.

Hope things are going well with everyone else. Summerday I was given the choice between 2 hospitals.

I posted about hospitals on the pregnancy thread a while back. My current local hospital is one of the best in the country and my consultant is above brilliant.....but we're moving house shortly (if things go to plan!) so I won't be here when baby is born. I was worried they might wash their hands of me if i no longer live round here but apparently its fine. I did ask my midwife if they would it would be a problem me living somewhere else come October and her only issue is that she wouldn't get to see the baby after he is born!

With regards to traveling long distances in labour, that's not really an issue for me as I'm having a planned C-sec. I think it would bother me if I was planning a natural birth though.

    Anyway, a general update.

I am not doing very well at the moment. I have a bit of a history of depression and clearly after Felix died things got worse. I stopped taking the meds when I found out I was pg again...but have been put back on them. The doc is worried about me and more so about baby...although the scan we had a few weeks back showed he was normal size again and looks to be growing well which was a relief. I was almost prepared for them to tell me he had died...or was going to die.
The pregnancy in its self is a doddle compared to last time...although my body and mind arn't holding up very well.

Has anyone else already started to think about the next pregnancy if the sex of this baby is not what they had hoped for? I don't know whether or not that's strange. I was so pleased F was a boy, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit disappointed when I found out this one was too. I won't be rushing into another pregnancy after he is born but I do want a girl at some point! I've just reread that and it sounds like I dont want this one...that isn't the case. Grr, I can't find a way to express what I mean. :(
