i have just had a calculation of income from hmrc

    pay from employments £*****

minus allowable expenses (business mileage) £****

    total for all employment £****

total income recieved (which is my income minus mileage) £****

so do i now tell tax credits my income is the total income recieved ?
do i have to tell them that hmrc have taken off expenses ?
    thank you
I can't remember whether there's a separate box on the claim/renewal form for expenses. There should be a working sheet which tells you how to fill in the form, if there's no separate box for expenses then you'd deduct the expenses, so giving the [income minus mileage allowance] figure you mention above.

No they ignore the first £2500 drop in income, but your tax credits this year will probably go up a bit as they'll start by use your income last year (and the first £5000 rise or £2500 drop this year is ignored).
  • i read that they do that but it doesnt make sense as if he had earned 19k we would owe them nearly 2k ,its all confusing im sure they make the rules up on each renewal

No you wouldn't because there's a disregard for rises as well as falls. Last year it was £10k so you could have earned up to £27k without owing them anything. This year it's £5k. It's still £2500 for falls.
  • oh right i understand now, thanks ( still think its abit unfair though lol ) but thanks for your help :)
  • Hi new here Can anyone give me some advice please?
I overestimated my 12/13 joint claim by about £6000 due to a drop in my wage and my partner (ex) not receiving his bonuses. We are now in the process of splitting and me and my disabled daughter moving out, so once we have moved out I will be starting a single claim for 13/14. I think what I'm wondering is because last tax credits year is officially over with and we have started a new tax credits year before we split and they did still underpay us, will we still get the payment due back to us or will they use the fact that we have now split and I will be starting a single claim to not pay the payment due... I don't know if anyone can help just thought I'd try my luck and ask... and I know if it was an overpayment (if I went from a single claim to joint) they'd chase for the money then because they've done that to me before, just wondering if they are as willing to give the money out lol.
Thanks in advance if anyone can help :-)
    Becky
  • Once your previous joint claim has been finalised with Previous Year income (make sure your former partner does his bit as well), you'll get any underpayment due to you.

Doesn't make any difference if there has been a so-called Household Breakdown (either joint to single or vice versa) or not.
  • Hi I have a P60 query. My husband P60 has a figure of 12k in this employment and 19k in a previous employment total for the year £31K. The 12K has a red box round it and a note saying to use this figure on his tax return. Is that the figure i give tax credits or the total figure of 32K
I think it should be 32K but was not sure
    Thanks in advance
