it says on the renewal form you can make deductions that are only needed for me to perform my duties at work, so can i take of the petrol costs each week that i use.
i do not mean costs for driving to work but the costs for business miles as if i didnt put the petrol in my car i could not travel from house to house caring for the people i look.after..thanks

i have seen this thanks but on this page
    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/taxcredits/start/claiming/income-hours/employment-income.htm

it says things to take off, it says include travel costs, but not for getting to work.
must be deductable for income tax purposes.

have rang tax credits and even she was confused said if it was agreed in my contract that i pay fuel not my employer then i can deduct from my income..

See the link I posted. That tells you what's deductible for income tax, that's what you can deduct for tax credits too. It's a lot more than just fuel if you use your own car. Do you not already claim income tax relief?

tried to inbox you but its says i cant
so my husbands mileage relief has come back and they approved just over £600, and they have adjusted his tax code because of this.
does that mean i can deduct £600 from his final salary for the year for tax credit purposes.?

does that mean the £600 is deductible for Income Tax purposes. ?
    thank you for any help

Suggest you phone again and hope you get hold of someone who knows what they're talking about, or better still write to them with details/proof of miles etc. If you do genuine business mileage (ie not commuting, and as per the link I posted) and you don't get expenses, then it's deductible for tax and tax credits. See the link for details. You might need to do a tax return to claim the deduction, but wouldn't have thought so. A letter will probably do.

Might be best to get it sorted with the income tax office first, then with tax credits. The income tax people understand these sort of things better, then once they've accepted your expenses you can point at their decision/tax code adjustment/letter as proof of expenses for tax credits.

    thanks zagfles.
my husband as his confirmed and has come back on the paye coding notice at £600 job expenses..
so will wait for mine to come back, i got exspenses last year for business mileage 11-12 year, but never deducted them off my final salary, didnt realise i should do.
what do i tell them the deductions are, as the woman today was 100% sure i could not take them off..
we are both employed (not self employed) but use our own cars for work / business that our employers expect us to do, we do not get any of the petrol costs back !

i have just had a calculation of income from hmrc

    pay from employments £*****

minus allowable expenses (business mileage) £****

    total for all employment £****

total income recieved (which is my income minus mileage) £****

so do i now tell tax credits my income is the total income recieved ?
do i have to tell them that hmrc have taken off expenses ?
    thank you
