Tax credit renewal - general questions (merged)

They didn't ask me to predict my 13/14 income, I just had to give income details for the previous year (12/13) when I renewed last time. So didn't lie about anything, but also haven't told them about my increase in income this year.
It would be a bit annoying if I had to pay them back as in the year 12/13 I was really struggling for money and tried to claim tax credits then, but they said I wasn't eligible because my income in 11/12 was 14K!
So when I needed them I wasn't allowed and now I don't need them so much I'm getting them, but may have to pay it back! It seems I should be allowed them for 13/14, as they wouldn't give me any in 12/13 when I earned 6K.... but I guess it doesn't work like that!Starting 2016 debt-free

Thanks for the help, its a confusing system! But its starting to make slightly more sense now.Starting 2016 debt-free

I appreciate my question might be too scant of details to come up with a definitive answer but I'll ask anyway...
I am self-employed on a low income and have two small children living with me. I currently work an average of 20 hours per week and receive £160 a week in tax credits (made up of £115 a week CTC and £45 a week of WTC).
I may soon be offered approx 8-10 hours a week of extra work which will be commission based so no fixed income but probably averaging around £20 a week. Can anyone have a stab as to what this will do to my tax credits? I don't have any issues with childcare but could really do with a steer as to where my income will head if this goes through.
Thanks in advance.0 -

As for your question, it would depend on whether it is 8 or 10 hours (there is an additional element of tax credits when you work 30 hours) and what income you already have. What is your expected 13/14 income?
Good idea, thanks. Didn't want to to clog the forum up though.0
